News Analysis: Trump’s Strait of Hormuz blockade risks clash with China

No country relies more heavily on the strait than China, which receives nearly half of its oil imports through the international waterway. In recent days, Beijing has warned that access to its shipping lanes “must be guaranteed.”

Trump administration officials believe the blockade could compel China to pressure Tehran into making further concessions, following Beijing’s crucial role earlier this month in convincing Iran to accept an initial ceasefire.

Diplomacy channel open between US and Iran despite outstanding differences

“No one expected a big deal in Pakistan after 40 days of war,” he said. “Nevertheless, it was high-level direct negotiations, and they can continue to resolve the two remaining issues.”

Mousavian said what remained to be settled was freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear enrichment.

“I believe there is a solution for both,” he said.

Iran says Hormuz open to civilian vessels, warns military ships

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps says the Strait of Hormuz remains open to civilian traffic, while warning military vessels against entering the strategic waterway.

In a statement, the IRGC said the strait is “open to the harmless passage of civilian vessels” in compliance with international law.

It warned that any military ships approaching the area would violate the ceasefire and “will be dealt with severely”.

UN says Israeli tank rammed peacekeeper vehicles in south Lebanon

“Over the past week, Israeli soldiers have fired ‘warning shots’ in the area, striking and damaging clearly identifiable Unifil vehicles. In one case, a ‘warning shot’ landed a metre away from a peacekeeper who had dismounted his vehicle”.

The mission said Israeli troops have also obstructed its patrols, reporting that forces “have continually blocked peacekeepers’ movements on this road in recent days”.

It added, “since early April, Israeli soldiers have also destroyed force protection cameras in UNIFIL’s Naqoura headquarters and five other positions on the Blue Line from Ras Naqoura to Maroun ar Ras”.

Unifil said Israeli personnel further restricted visibility at its headquarters, noting that soldiers spray-painted the pedestrian gate windows on Saturday, “denying visibility to the external perimeter”.

Any government in the world could expel the rogue state of Israel from the United Nations. None does.

(April 27, 2025)

In short: every government of a UN member state could bring in a resolution to the Assembly that, once it is adopted, requests an urgent advisory opinion of the World Court, the International Court of Justice.

And if the World Court decides so, Israel is being kicked out of the United Nations. That‘s it. The Security Council is meaningless on that matter.

So here is the question of questions, to all of you around the world: Although it has been publicly demanded, even promised by various governments – why hasn´t this happened yet?

Israeli strike kills infant girl in south Lebanon during father‘s funeral

The strike on the Saeed family home in the village of Srifa took place on Wednesday, the first day of a U.S.-Iran ceasefire that many in Lebanon hoped would apply to their country, too. Instead, Israeli strikes killed more than 350 across Lebanon and left the Saeed family with four more relatives to bury.

„They said it was a ceasefire. Like all these people, we went up to the village. We went to the casket to read the prayers and walk home… suddenly we felt like a storm was landing right on us,“ said Nasser Saeed, Aline‘s 64-year-old grandfather, who also survived.

On Sunday, he joined other relatives in the southern port city of Tyre to pick up the bodies…

Iranian Researchers Acquire Know-How to Produce Molybdenum-99 Using Nuclear Technology

(May 29, 2024)

“Molybdenum is used to detect some diseases. Every week, hospitals and nuclear medicine diagnostic centers across the country need radiopharmaceuticals based on the use of technetium-m99, and more than one million patients benefit from technetium-m99 every year,” Ali Bahrami Samani, the project manager of the Molybdenum macro plan said.

(…)

“Furthermore, the hot cell facilities during the implementation of the molybdenum production plan using the method of neutron activation of molybdenum oxide were not suitable under the foreign sanctions for the rapid implementation of the industrial stage under special conditions. Also, given the restrictions imposed by the nuclear deal known as the JCPOA (Comprehensive Joint Plan of Action), it was decided that molybdenum production plan to be carried out in several stages,” the manager of the project further explained.

U.S. moves closer to establishing domestic supply of Mo-99 for nuclear imaging

(December 18, 2024)

The U.S. government has worked for several years to help establish a domestically produced supply of molybdenum-99 (Mo-99)to stabilize access to this critical radio-isotope used for more than 75% of medical nuclear imaging exams. The U.S. currently relies on 100% of its Mo-99 supplies from foreign reactors overseas, making the country‘s medical imaging supply chain vulnerable. This was the case in October and early November, when one of the key aging European reactors was taken off line for emergency repairs.

(…)

Historically, Mo-99 has been sourced from a handful of older research reactors outside the U.S., much of which came from the Chalk River reactor in Canada. But that 60-year-old reactor closed in 2018, and the reliance on reactors outside the states, including one Russian reactor for some medical isotopes, has left the U.S. vulnerable to supply chain disruptions.

“The world depends on six reactors, many of which are decades old,” Cutler explained. “These facilities coordinate their operations to minimize disruptions, but when maintenance issues arise, shortages can quickly follow.”

Trump Announces Blockade of Strait of Hormuz

The President said he gave the order because Iran refused to agree not to develop nuclear weapons during talks with US officials in Pakistan on Saturday. “The meeting with Iran began early in the morning, and lasted throughout the night — Close to 20 hours,” the President wrote in a second post on Sunday. “I could go into great detail, and talk about much that has been gotten but, there is only one thing that matters — IRAN IS UNWILLING TO GIVE UP ITS NUCLEAR AMBITIONS!”

The Gulf of Tonkin Incident: Did America lie to start a war?

In August 1964, as Cold War tension continued to fuel Washington’s obsession with the aim of stopping communist expansion in Southeast Asia, a brief naval encounter off the coast of North Vietnam rapidly triggered full-scale U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War.

Within days, President Lyndon B. Johnson received very broad congressional support to wage war, and officials justified this decision with reports of two unprovoked attacks on American destroyers that were operating in the Gulf of Tonkin.

Years later, as declassified evidence exposed errors and deliberate gaps in the reports, it became increasingly clear to many historians that the incident had not occurred exactly as described and that American leaders had, in significant ways, manipulated facts to justify the decision to send more forces to war.

The Gulf of Tonkin Incident: Deception, Escalation, and the March to War in Vietnam

(May 25, 2024)

The Gulf of Tonkin incident in August 1964 marked a pivotal turning point in the United States‘ involvement in Vietnam. What began as a limited, covert conflict rapidly escalated into a massive, decade-long war that would claim the lives of over 58,000 Americans and millions of Vietnamese. At the heart of this transformation was a murky naval skirmish off the coast of North Vietnam that was shrouded in confusion, miscommunication, and outright deception.

The events of August 1964 in the Gulf of Tonkin have long been a source of controversy and debate among historians, policymakers, and the American public. The incident raises profound questions about the use and abuse of intelligence, the manipulation of public opinion, the accountability of political leaders, and the proper role of Congress in checking presidential war powers.

Press TV Exclusive: US destroyers‘ Strait of Hormuz transit stunt failed, came close to destruction

Press TV‘s investigation found the American attempt to be an extremely high-risk move that could have easily turned into a disaster for the United States and its military.

The destroyers were only a few minutes away from complete destruction after Iranian cruise missiles locked onto the vessel and attack drones were deployed.

When the two destroyers and the accompanying fleet reached the mouth of the Persian Gulf, Iran‘s cruise missiles locked onto them, and the destroyers were given only 30-minutes to turn back. The vessels immediately retreated.

They had attempted to use electronic warfare tactics, including turning off its position reporting system, in a bid to deceive the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) naval forces.

“My colleagues raised forward-looking initiatives, but the opposite side ultimately failed to win the trust of the Iranian delegation in this round of negotiations,” he added.

Israel, Lebanon set for US-mediated talks in Washington on April 14 after rare direct call

In a rare diplomatic development, Lebanon and Israel have initiated direct contact through a phone conversation between their ambassadors in Washington, marking an unusual step for two nations that remain technically at war. The call, arranged by the United States, also included the U.S. ambassador to Lebanon, according to confirmation from the Lebanese presidency.

The exchange signals a cautious opening in a relationship defined by decades of hostility and the absence of formal diplomatic ties. While limited in scope, the communication has already led to a more tangible outcome: both sides have agreed to meet in person on April 14 at the U.S. State Department.

Peace Activists to „Welcome Back“ Congress As They Return from Recess as the War on Iran Continues

WASHINGTON, D.C.— CODEPINK and the DC Against Trump Agenda Coalition announced plans to “welcome back” members of Congress on April 14, coinciding with Congress‘s return from recess, to demand an immediate end to the U.S. war on Iran.

“Congress has been in recess while the war rages on. It’s shameful but unsurprising,” explained CODEPINK’s Olivia DiNucci.

New Poll: The Joint List Becomes the Third-largest Faction in the Knesset

Channel 13 also asked respondents how they would vote if Hadash and three Arab parties, Ra’am, Ta’al and Balad, ran together as the Joint List, as they have done in the past. In such a scenario, the Joint List would become the third largest parliamentary faction, with sixteen seats. Likud would shrink to 20 and Religious Zionism would rise to six, giving Netanyahu’s coalition a total of 53 seats, and Bennett’s party would shrink to 20 while Yashar Eisenkot’s and Democrats Golan’s parties would drop to eleven and seven, respectively, giving the Zionist opposition bloc a total of 51 seats. Hadash and the Arab parties pledged earlier this year to work to reestablish the Joint List, with little signs of progress.

Israel is attacking Lebanon to sabotage the Iran ceasefire, but the media is hiding its true motivation

It’s no surprise that Benjamin Netanyahu immediately started to sabotage Donald Trump’s Iran ceasefire, by launching murderous Israeli air attacks on Lebanon, which already killed more than 200 people. It’s also, sadly, no surprise that the mainstream U.S. media did not report that Netanyahu and Israel were deliberately trying to torpedo the fragile ceasefire.
