HOLD THE FRONT PAGE. THE REPORTERS ARE MISSING
Although journalism was always a loose extension of establishment power, something has changed in recent years. Dissent tolerated when I joined a national newspaper in Britain in the 1960s has regressed to a metaphoric underground as liberal capitalism moves towards a form of corporate dictatorship. This is a seismic shift, with journalists policing the new „groupthink“, as Parry called it, dispensing its myths and distractions, pursuing its enemies.
Caught In The Cross Hairs – Media Lens And The Mystery Of The Wikipedia Editor
(17.10.2018) Apart from Cross, in the 17 years we have been working on Media Lens, only one other person has subjected us to a relentlessly negative campaign that is in any way comparable. Almost ten years ago, we documented how Oliver Kamm had been pursuing us relentlessly across the internet – writing blogs about us, posting grisly comments about our genocide ‚denial‘ under online interviews with us, and often warning journalists who mentioned our work – or who, god forbid, praised our work – or who interacted with us in any way, that we were blood-drenched ‚genocide deniers‘ and/or seedy ‚misogynists‘.
In 2013, Mehdi Hasan, formerly senior political editor at the New Statesman, now a columnist with The Intercept, commented to Kamm on Twitter:
‚I cant help but be amused at the way you swoop down in at any mention of MediaLens. Got ’em on an alert?‘
Despite continuing to seek out and attack us online, Kamm has shown admirable restraint in not extending his campaign to Wikipedia. We are not aware that he has added a single edit to either of our individual pages, nor to our Media Lens page. It seems that, for Kamm, when it comes to Wikipedia, it is always the Christmas truce.
Auftakt bayerischer Prozessserie
Time to ditch Wikipedia? A look at a Wikipedia editor‘s long-running campaign to discredit anti-war campaigners and journalists
(2.8.2018) As an active editor for almost 15 years, Cross is very familiar with some of the more arcane Wikipedia rules and guidelines (along with their obscure acronyms) and uses them to justify removing information he dislikes in favour of his own inclusions. Often in a very subtle manner and over a long period of time.

The Philip Cross Affair
(16.5.2018) 133,612 edits to Wikpedia have been made in the name of “Philip Cross” over 14 years. That’s over 30 edits per day, seven days a week. And I do not use that figuratively: Wikipedia edits are timed, and if you plot them, the timecard for “Philip Cross’s” Wikipedia activity is astonishing is astonishing if it is one individual:
The operation runs like clockwork, seven days a week, every waking hour, without significant variation.
The Philip Cross scandal: How Wikipedia is being used against left-wing journalists
Cross has also edited pages relating to art, music, history and architecture. Yet political subjects remain the editor’s focus. And, as FiveFilters points out, there is a bias over years of Cross’s editing – not only negatively impacting left-wing and anti-war figures but also positively impacting right-wing figures. These include Times journalists Oliver Kamm and Melanie Philips.

EU ‘needs another crisis’ to finish banking union
(16.5.2018) “I have the impression that [EU member states] have the false impression that everything’s fine, but everything’s not fine and the job is half done,” Olivier Guersent, director general for financial stability, financial services and capital markets union, said at the annual conference of the Single Resolution Board (SRB) in Brussels.
Politicians need “a big enough crisis for them to be scared enough, but not big enough to kill us”, to finish the banking union project, he added.
EU Bank Rescue Board Says Fund Will Hold €33B In 2019

Italian economy minister hails ‚historic‘ banking deal
As well, the board‘s decisions must be approved by EU finance ministers, leading some critics to say the process will be very complex. In a second step, governments will contribute to a resolution fund by imposing levies on banks over 10 years for a total of about 55 billion euros.
No deal is better than partition, or reducing Britain to a vassal state
It was the Europeans who insisted that the Irish border must be resolved before our future relationship with the EU could be discussed. Of course, they knew the border could not be fixed until the future relationship was decided. They were laying a trap to tie the UK to European laws beyond Brexit.
Why the British said no to Europe
(25.Juni 2016) The pith helmets may have long gone, but the blood has never dried. A nineteenth century contempt for countries and peoples, depending on their degree of colonial usefulness, remains a centrepiece of modern „globalisation“, with its perverse socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor: its freedom for capital and denial of freedom to labour; its perfidious politicians and politicised civil servants.
All this has now come home to Europe, enriching the likes of Tony Blair and impoverishing and disempowering millions. On 23 June, the British said no more.
The most effective propagandists of the „European ideal“ have not been the far right, but an insufferably patrician class for whom metropolitan London is the United Kingdom. Its leading members see themselves as liberal, enlightened, cultivated tribunes of the 21st century zeitgeist, even „cool“. What they really are is a bourgeoisie with insatiable consumerist tastes and ancient instincts of their own superiority. In their house paper, the Guardian, they have gloated, day after day, at those who would even consider the EU profoundly undemocratic, a source of social injustice and a virulent extremism known as „neoliberalism“.
The aim of this extremism is to install a permanent, capitalist theocracy that ensures a two-thirds society, with the majority divided and indebted, managed by a corporate class, and a permanent working poor.

Theresa May faces backlash over hint to extend Brexit transition to 2021
It would mean the UK remaining within the single market and customs union and subject to EU rules and regulations for almost three years after the official date of Brexit in March 2019, and more than five years after the referendum vote to leave the bloc.
Angry Brexiteers said the concession would delay when the UK could sign new trade deals around the world and mean taxpayers paying billions of pounds more in additional contributions to the EU.

Brexit explained: Why does the Border matter and what is the backstop?
The 499-kilometre border running from Carlingford Lough to Lough Foyle will become the only land border between the UK and the European Union after Brexit. The 1998 Belfast Agreement (also known as the Good Friday Agreement) brought peace to Northern Ireland and removed the need for checks along the Border. It also established North-South regulations and institutions that helped support the peace process. The Border is currently invisible and neither side wants the return of infrastructure or the creation of a hard border.
Labour H&F Council spent Council Taxpayers money in “censuring” me last night for not backing a second EU Referendum. This is against Labour policy. It is, however, @LibDems policy, so maybe it’s they who are in the wrong party, not me?
Crackpot Labour H&F Council calling on me to either back a second EU referendum or resign & cause a by-election….Honestly guys, have you shown this to any of your Labour MP or Council colleagues outside of London?
Eurozone political economy can be reduced to two incompatible positions: German resistance to debt mutualisation and inflation, and France‘s commitment to ever closer union. As long as this remains true, there will be no end to the current crisis. 1/
After more than two years of being ruthlessly pushed around by the EU, it is time for the UK to resist.

Support for the Union comes from all corners of the UK: Campbell
Indeed, the comments by the Scottish Conservative Leader last weekend highlighted the strength of support across the United Kingdom for maintaining the Union.
Ruth Davidson’s position is not borne out of enthusiastic support for leaving the European Union; she was an advocate for Remain. However, Ruth Davidson recognises the impact of placing an international style border down the Irish Sea. She understands that such an outcome would be seized upon by separatists within the United Kingdom.
The DUP wants to see a sensible deal which maintains the constitutional and economic integrity of the United Kingdom. We will stand up for Northern Ireland but most important is the Union between us all. It is very clear that those same objectives are shared by many others across the United Kingdom. Both those who were ‘Leave’ as well as those who were ‘Remain’recognise that the four countries are stronger together.”
Scotland: David Mundell accused of ‘flip flopping’ after denying he threatened to resign
David Mundell told MPs that preserving the integrity of the UK as the country leaves the EU was a “red line” for him and other Scottish Conservatives including Ruth Davidson.
But he said the Prime Minister felt the same way, batting away suggestions that he told her he would quit over any Brexit deal that boosted the case for Scottish independence.
DUP ready to vote down budget and potentially topple Theresa May if she compromises further on Brexit
Budget votes are viewed as an issue of confidence in a government – meaning defeat would trigger calls for a general election
DUP leader says would prefer no Brexit deal to ‘annexation’ of Northern Ireland
(13.10.2018) The head of the Northern Irish party that props up British Prime Minister Theresa May’s government said on Saturday she would prefer no Brexit deal to a bad deal, saying the current proposal would permanently annex Northern Ireland from the rest of the United Kingdom.
Unionists plan ‘guerilla war’ against Northern Ireland Brexit plan
(12.10.2018) Even if May can get a version of the so-called Irish backstop through the U.K. parliament without DUP votes, the party could use its position as the leading unionist political force in Northern Ireland to try to prevent it from ever being implemented — and in the process block power sharing with nationalist politicians permanently.
“We are going to squeeze their balls until their ears bleed,” the party official said.
EU plan to annex Northern Ireland may spark war
(8.10.2017) At the outset of Brexit, all sides openly agreed there should be no border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, but it now seems the Europeans were being sneaky when they made the pledge. It has now emerged they are keen to see a border between Great Britain and Northern Ireland, despite them being the same country.
Given most people are confused by the geography of the UK it is worth quickly recapping before I go any further.

The PM told European leaders she would consider an extension to the Brexit transition period, but Brexiteers reacted immediately with fury
Michael Fabricant reveals REAL reason Brussels is playing hard ball over Brexit
The Tory backbencher said the UK’s departure has left the bloc fighting for “sheer survival” with the very future of the European project at stake.
He said granting Britain any special exceptions could “open Pandora’s Box” and embolden disgruntled member states like Hungary and Poland to make similar demands.
‘We may NEVER leave!’ Brexiteer FURY as panicked Theresa May considers DELAYING EU exit
THERESA May risked infuriating Tory Brexiteers this evening by opening talks with the EU on extending Britain‘s transition out of the bloc by at least another year.
Theresa May open to extending Brexit transition period by a year as she asks EU for ‚creative‘ ideas
At a summit in Brussels the Prime Minister said Britain would be open to the idea of staying tied to the EU beyond the end of December 2020, even though that could mean paying billions more to Brussels.
EU sagt Brexit-Sondergipfel im November vorerst ab

The UN recently signed an $8 million deal for the next three years, with the option of another five years.
