Trump: We Are in Venezuela Now, and We Are Going to Stay

Trump claimed Washington would pay for the occupation of Venezuela with profits from the country’s oil.

Trump‘s vow to ‚run‘ Venezuela, sell oil, part of plan to dominate Western Hemisphere

But Trump‘s framing of the issue appeared to quickly expand when he stunned observers by saying the U.S. was going to „run the country“ temporarily, even if that involved troops on the ground, that American companies would soon start selling the country‘s vast oil reserves, and that it was part of an overall strategy of U.S. dominance in the Western Hemisphere.

From Gaza to Sudan: “Their Pain Is Ours”

In Gaza, we are used to waking up to the sounds of explosions, counting the days between meals, and cycling constantly between fear and hope. We thought our pain was unlike any other in the world until we saw Sudan burning under the same silence. There, as here, people die from hunger and under rubble, cameras and lenses absent, as if pain in the Global South is not meant to be heard in the North.

In Sudan and Gaza, children are snatched from their mothers’ arms before they even know what safety feels like. Last Tuesday alone, some 460 people were reportedly killed by paramilitary forces in the city of El-Fasher. Estimates put the rate of displacement in Gaza at 90%; in Sudan, more than 14 million people have been displaced. Homes are destroyed, access to clean water is severely limited, food remains deeply scarce, and the wounded lie scattered on the ground without medical care, just as we witnessed in our small city on the Mediterranean coast.

Yet what hurts more than bombing or hunger is silence.

Digitaler Kolonialismus

How Israel’s genocide in Gaza became a showdown between the West and the Global South

The world today is divided between a minority of powerful imperialist white supremacists who support the genocide of the Palestinians and the majority of the people who do not

Linksregierungen in Lateinamerika fordern globalen Norden heraus

New York.

Northern Lights Are Seen in Places Where They Normally Aren’t

“The sun spit off a big blob of plasma,” Mr. Steenburgh said. The burst of energy, which has its own magnetic field, had been moving through space and reached Earth’s magnetic field on Sunday, when the two collided to create a geomagnetic storm, he said. “It got our magnetosphere pretty revved up.”

When this happens, the aurora can be seen closer to the Equator, Mr. Steenburgh said. Such events are not that uncommon, with about 100 occurring every 11 years, he said, adding that the storm can also disturb high frequency radio used at sea and by airlines.

A severe geomagnetic storm could create rare ‚northern lights‘ sightings. Here’s what it means for Northern California

(23.04.2023)

Geomagnetic storms occur when energy from the sun’s outermost atmosphere disrupts Earth’s magnetic field, causing bands of green and red to light up the night sky. The natural electrical phenomenon is especially visible near the North Pole, but sometimes stretches lower into Canada and the northern United States, where it is often captured by wildfire cameras.

Scots could see Northern Lights with aurora borealis ‚likely‘ tonight

(23.04.2023)

The natural light display – more typically visible in high-latitude regions around the Artic and Antarctic – is better seen in a dark location with no light pollution, with cloudless skies.

The atmospheric phenomenon is caused when solar particles from the sun collide with Earth‘s atmosphere. These energised particles combine with nitrogen and oxygen molecules, which send them into an excited state.

Scientists link California droughts, floods to distinctive atmospheric waves

(6.4.2017) Wavenumber-5 consists of five pairs of alternating high- and low-pressure features that encircle the globe about six miles (10 kilometers) above the ground. It is a type of atmospheric phenomenon known as a Rossby wave, a very large-scale planetary wave that can have strong impacts on local weather systems by moving heat and moisture between the tropics and higher latitudes as well as between oceanic and inland areas and by influencing where storms occur.

The slow-moving Rossby waves at times become almost stationary. When they do, the result can be persistent weather patterns that often lead to droughts, floods, and heat waves.
