The Planet Cooled In June; Europe Maps The Heat Island; Hokkaido Joins The July Chill; + Rare Coastal Snow As South America Freezes
(July 3, 2026)
For all the mediaâs huffing and puffing over western Europeâs âclimate-change heatwave,â the planet cooled in June.
UAHâs satellite-based lower troposphere record has June 2026 at +0.46C above the norm, down from +0.53C in May â a clear monthly fall all while headlines tried to turn one regional European hot spell into proof of a planetary catastrophe.
According to a World Weather Attribution report â and dutifully recycled by the usual activist rags â western Europeâs recent heatwave was âimpossible without the climate crisis.â
Reuters led with the same line, adding that the âsoaring night-time temperaturesâ were made 100 times more likely. The Guardian went further, calling it the âworst ever and impossible without climate crisis,â and claiming the heat was âonly possible because of fossil-fuel burning.â Euronews warned that âclimate change is running rampant,â while El PaĂs spelled out the sermon in its headline: âItâs not just hot, itâs climate change.â Etc. Etc. Etc.
The European heat was real. But it was weather. It was circulation. That is what blocking highs do.
Overall, the planet cooled 0.07C in June.
Fossil fuel emissions have rapidly worsened European heatwaves in just a few decades
(June 26, 2026)
Heatwaves pose a serious threat to human health and have profound impacts on ecosystems. During the summer of 2022, more than 60,000 people across Europe died as a result of extreme heat. Even in the following summer, which was significantly cooler, over 47,000 heat-related deaths were recorded (Gallo et al., 2024). Last year, the first heatwave in Europe, also hitting at the end of June, cost an estimated 2,300 people their lives in only 12 European cities (Grantham Institute, 2025).
Europeâs Deadly Heatwave: Climate Change Tripled the Death Toll, Finds Study
(July 11, 2025)
A searing heatwave that swept across parts of Europe in late June 2025 has been linked to nearly 2,300 excess deaths, according to a rapid attribution study conducted by scientists from Imperial College London and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
The analysis shows that global warming raised temperatures during this heatwave by 2 to 4°C above what they would have been in a world without human influence. This increase, though seemingly modest, had deadly consequences when combined with ageing infrastructure, dense urban environments, and inadequate heat preparedness in many parts of Europe. Temperatures soared well beyond seasonal norms, straining public health systems and exposing gaps in citiesâ ability to protect residents.
Researchers focused on data from June 23 to July 2 and 12 European cities in Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, the UK, Greece, Croatia, and Hungary.
Despite ceasefire, Gaza death toll continues to rise, reaching 71,662 since October 2023
Since the ceasefire went into effect on October 11, the number of those killed and injured has reached 488 and 1,350, respectively. At least 714 bodies have also been recovered from under the rubble.
A twelve-day-old infant also died at Al-Rantisi Hospital as a result of severe cold, bringing the number of child deaths due to cold since the beginning of the winter season to 11.
Another child dies in extreme conditions in Gaza: UNICEF
A sixth child has died in Gaza this month as the enclaveâs people continue to endure dire living conditions linked to freezing rains and the Israel-Hamas war, the UN Childrenâs Fund (UNICEF) has announced. The development comes as aid agencies urged Israeli authorities to reconsider revoking the licences of dozens of humanitarian partners that provide assistance across the devastated enclave from 1 January.
Deadly Israeli attacks continue in Gaza despite ceasefire â Government Communication Center Situation Report No. 68
RAMALLAH, December 28, 2025 (WAFA) â Deadly Israeli attacks continue in Gaza despite the ceasefire, as Israel has killed 401 Palestinians in the Strip, bringing the total number of Palestinians killed since the genocide began to 70,925, according to the Government Communication Center at the Prime Ministerâs Office in Situation Report No. 68, covering the period between December 22 and December 29, 2025, until 08:00 a.m.
– Ceasefire in Place, Yet Israeli Violations Persist: Eighty days after the ceasefire, Israel continues large-scale military operations in Gaza, including systematic demolitions, airstrikes, blockade, and restrictions on humanitarian access, resulting in additional Palestinian casualties and widespread destruction.
– Continued Humanitarian Collapse: Severe food insecurity, winter exposure, blocked reconstruction, and restrictions on temporary housing continue to place hundreds of thousands of Palestinians at risk, underscoring Israelâs ongoing collective punishment of civilians.

Presidency calls for urgent international pressure on Israel to allow aid into Gaza
RAMALLAH, November 15, 2025 (WAFA) â The Palestinian Presidency has appealed to the international community, particularly the U.S. administration and the guarantor states of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, to pressure Israel to expedite the entry of mobile houses and tents into the Gaza Strip.
This request comes in response to the severe weather conditions currently threatening the lives of Gaza‘s residents. The remaining tents in Gaza are old, torn, and inadequate, failing to prevent rain from entering and offering little protection to civilians.
RECORD BREAKING: More than 400 tornadoes in the first three months of 2023
According to the National Weather Service, 466 tornadoes have struck since the beginning of the year. Thatâs the highest number since they started keeping track in 1950.
Death toll rises to at least 55 as freezing temperatures and heavy snow wallop swaths of U.S.
Stretching from the Great Lakes near Canada to the Rio Grande along the Mexican border, the storm has killed at least 55 people as of Monday morning, according to an NBC News tally. The deaths were recorded in 12 states: Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

As hinted at above, Mauna Loa began erupting on Nov 27 and stopped on Dec 13.
It was the first time it has actively erupted since 1984 (solar minimum of cycle 20) â and is a sign of the timesâŠ
Volcanic eruptions are one of the key climatic forcings driving Earth into its next bout of global cooling. They have been shown to increase in both number and explosivity during times of prolonged solar decline, which is thought to be due to an influx of cosmic rays (CRs) penetrating/exciting silica-rich magma. During solar mins the Sunâs magnetic field weakens and the outward pressure of the solar wind decreases, which allows more CRs to enter the inner solar system, including our planetâs atmosphere.

Death toll from winter storm rises to at least 31
The storm brought hurricane-force winds and created whiteout conditions as it battered the area. A bomb cyclone, which happens when atmospheric pressure drops sharply in a strong storm, developed over the Great Lakes.
The storm has sent temperatures well below freezing in much of the country.

The first Red Extreme heat warning issued.
Fri 15 Jul 2022
For the first time temperatures of 40°C have been forecast in the UK and the Met Office has issued the first ever Red warning for exceptional heat.
Exceptional heat is expected to affect a large part of England early next week, with temperatures likely in the high 30s C in some places and perhaps even reaching 40°C.
Solar Activity Forecast for the Next Decade
(12.06.2019)
The results show that the next Solar Cycle will start in 2020 and reach a maximum in 2025.Cycle 25 is expected to be even weaker than the current solar cycle.
According to this forecast, upcoming solar activity will be the weakest in the last 200 years.
From New Mexico to New England: More Than 100 Million Americans Under âCold Weather Warningsâ, + AGW/COVID Cults
So-called âclimate expertsâ are pointing to this yearâs wild temperature swings as the direct impact of âglobal climate changeâ â but there is a far more likely culprit that is being willfully ignored: The Sun, the source of our climate systemâs energy, is currently in a historically weak stateâa fact nobody is disputing. Frustratingly though, investigating the impact such reduced solar output could have on the climate (via the weakening of the jet streams, among other forcings) has been labelled heresy, and there are very few academics left with the gumption to openly discuss it, let alone study it–not that theyâed ever receive funding.
Solar Cycle 25 Progressing Similarly to 24, + Fairbanks sees Record-Breaking Snowfall
(October 6, 2021)
The official forecast by the NOAA/NASA Solar Cycle 25 Prediction Panel (made in 2019, and visualized by the red line above) called for a weak cycle 25, peaking in July 2025. And while things are currently tracking slightly ahead of schedule, NOAA donât believe that the cycle will peak any higher than SC24. Instead, they simply see the peak arriving earlier, in late-2024 (rather than mid-2025). If this plays out it would of course mean an earlier start to Solar Cycle 26, too …

The IPCC: Where‘s the Science?
(Mar 11, 2014)
The UN‘s climate panel claims to be a ‚scientific body.‘ But it‘s actually in the business of writing reports that rely on thousands of judgment calls. It‘s time to stop pretending that fallible human judgment is ‚science.‘
3 Things Scientists Need to Know About the IPCC
(01.09.2015)
The bottom line is that this is a week of naked political horse trading that goes on behind closed doors. Journalists are not allowed to witness what takes place, which is why weâve been looking at official IPCC photos here. This is what they permit us to see.
Itâs only after the diplomats have haggled over this Summary â paragraph by paragraph â that the final version gets officially released at a press conference.
The world is then told that science has spoken. But whatâs just happened has nothing to do with science. Scientific truth is not determined in the dead of night by UN-level negotiations. On what planet would such an approach make scientific sense?
But the bad news doesnât stop there. Thereâs actually a step in the IPCC process in which the original, lengthy report gets amended so that it conforms to the politically-negotiated Summary. I am not making this up.
Cop26 president: UN climate crisis report is a âwake-up call for the worldâ
He urged âall the major emitters to play their partâ, adding the G20 group of nations âis going to be absolutely key in terms of our 1.5-degree futureâ.
Mr Sharma said countries who are attending the international Cop26 climate talks in Glasgow in November âmust send a clear market signal to get the transition moving fasterâ.
