Troops in LA can detain individuals, military official says, as protests spread across US
In addition to protecting government buildings and personnel, the Pentagon has said the troops will safeguard Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers during raids.
ICE posted photos online on Tuesday of National Guard troops standing guard with weapons in hand as ICE officers handcuffed apparent migrants against the side of a car in Los Angeles.
An 1878 law, the Posse Comitatus Act, generally forbids the U.S. military, including the National Guard, from taking part in civilian law enforcement.
Israel is falsely designating Gaza areas as empty in order to bomb them
In recent weeks, the Israeli army has been launching airstrikes on residential neighborhoods in Gaza that they treat as evacuated, despite knowing that many of the houses bombed were filled with civilians who could not or did not want to leave, according to two intelligence sources who spoke to +972 Magazine and Local Call.
The army’s designation of a particular neighborhood as “green,” or cleared of residents, is based on a crude algorithmic analysis of phone usage patterns over a wide area — not on a detailed, house-by-house assessment before bombing, as previously revealed by +972 Magazine, Local Call and The New York Times.
Dodging question on two-state solution, White House says Trump’s priority is ending Gaza war
Accordingly, Netanyahu is facing increasing accusations that he is prolonging the war in order to keep his coalition intact, as his far-right partners who envision Israel permanently occupying the Strip, establishing settlements there and encouraging the mass-migration of its Palestinians threaten to collapse the government if he agrees to a permanent ceasefire and withdrawal from Gaza.
Coalition scrambles for deal with Haredim ahead of preliminary vote to dissolve Knesset
If the legislation to dissolve the Knesset passes its preliminary vote today, it would still need to pass three further votes to take effect. If it is voted down, the opposition will have to wait six months to bring another Knesset dissolution bill to a vote.
Netanyahu using Iran tension, threats to try and stop Knesset dispersion vote
The opposition bills calling for the dissolution of the Knesset are expected to be brought up between 10:00 and 11:00 p.m., with a special plenary session set to honor Argentinian President Javier Milei, who is visiting the Knesset on Wednesday. The session will also include a speech by Netanyahu.
Israeli Attacks Kill Dozens at Aid Sites as Gaza Death Toll Surpasses 55,000
Palestinians have been forced to walk an average of 9.3 miles to retrieve boxes that Chris Newton, a senior analyst with the International Crisis Group, said contain an amount of sustenance that is „closer to the ration given in a starvation experiment run in the 1940s in the U.S. than it is to Israel‘s own previous 2008 red line for the minimum calories needed to avoid malnutrition in Gaza.“
„The violence, the chaos, and the complete inadequacy of the types and volume of aid being given out are not so much mistakes of the system, but really by design,“ Newton told Al Jazeera.
120 Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks in 24 hours
Israel has killed at least 120 Palestinians and injured another 474 in attacks across Gaza in the last 24 hours, the enclave‘s health ministry has reported, adding that the bodies of three people were also recovered from the rubble.
It said that of that figure, 57 aid seekers were killed and over 363 injured by Israeli forces since dawn.
This brings the the total number of people killed at aid distribution centres to 224, with 1,858 others injured.

Thousands of New Yorkers flooded the streets of Lower Manhattan Tuesday evening protesting the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown, which in New York City has been playing out inside immigration courthouses for three weeks.
The throng gathered in Foley Square denouncing raids that have taken place in the city and across the country. Many voiced support for protesters in Los Angeles, where large demonstrations have been ongoing since Friday, and where President Donald Trump ordered the National Guard and the Marines to quell the demonstrations.

National Guard protecting law enforcement, DHS says as photos appear to show them at ICE operations
Images shared by ICE on X show authorities arresting individuals, as troops stand by, appearing to guard the area around the operation – in other words, serving as a security perimeter. The caption read: “Photos from today’s ICE Los Angeles immigration enforcement operation.”
Former senior ICE officials who spoke to CNN couldn’t recall any time the National Guard had been involved in an ICE interior operation.
“Even if lawful, however, the idea of the National Guard supplementing ICE officers on interior enforcement is almost certainly a first,” John Sandweg, former acting ICE director during the Obama administration, said.
Brownley, Carbajal Condemn Cruel and Reckless ICE Activities in Ventura County
“We have received disturbing reports of ICE enforcement actions in Ventura County, including in Oxnard, Port Hueneme, and Camarillo, where agents have reportedly stopped vehicles, loitered near schools, and attempted to enter agricultural properties and facilities in the Oxnard Plain. These actions are completely unjustified, deeply harmful, and raise serious questions about the agency’s tactics and its respect for due process.
“Let us be clear: these raids are not about public safety. They are about stoking fear. These are not criminals being targeted. They are hardworking people and families who are an essential part of Ventura County. Our local economy, like much of California’s and the country’s as a whole, depends on undocumented labor. These men and women are the backbone of our farms, our fields, our construction and service industries, and our communities.
“We are outraged by the cruelty and recklessness of this campaign. It is unconscionable. The Trump administration is deliberately inflicting harm on immigrant families and doing so without transparency, accountability, or even basic communication with Congress. Neither we nor our colleagues have received any notification or briefing from ICE about these activities. Our inquiries to the administration have gone unanswered. This total lack of transparency is unacceptable.

Authorities on Tuesday raided food facilities with predominantly immigrant workforces across two states – a move that has sparked outrage amid intensifying protests against immigration enforcement.

Governor Newsom’s Address to California: Democracy at a Crossroads
Yesterday, we filed a legal challenge to President Trump’s reckless deployment of American troops to a major American city.
Today, we sought an emergency court order to stop the use of the American military to engage in law enforcement activities across Los Angeles.
If some of us can be snatched off the streets without a warrant, based only on suspicion or skin color, then none of us are safe.
Authoritarian regimes begin by targeting people who are least able to defend themselves. But they do not stop there.

Tomasi, who doesn‘t appear to be wearing personal protective equipment, cries out in pain and clutches her lower leg as the cameraman quickly pans away and they move away from the police line.

The Spectacle of A Police State: This Is Martial Law Without A Formal Declaration Of War – OpEd
Rather, the Deep State refers to the entrenched network of unelected bureaucrats, intelligence agencies, military contractors, surveillance firms, and corporate lobbyists that operate beyond the reach of democratic accountability. It is a government within a government—an intelligence-industrial complex that persists regardless of who sits in the Oval Office and whose true allegiance lies not with the Constitution but with power, profit, and control.
In other words, the Deep State doesn’t just survive presidential administrations—it recruits them. And in Trump, it has found a showman willing to turn its agenda into a public performance of raw power—militarized, theatrical, and loyal not to the Constitution, but to dominance.
ACLU Slams Trump Administration Deployment of Active Duty Troops to Los Angeles
(June 9, 2025)
“From the get-go, the Trump administration’s deployment of troops into the streets of California, over the governor’s objection, has raised serious constitutional concerns. This latest move only increases legal and ethical jeopardy for troops, and further endangers the rights of the people of Los Angeles. Brave Angelenos who are peacefully standing up for the rights of their immigrant neighbors deserve better, just like this country does.”
