Kritiker des Einsatzes von Uranmunition wiesen auf einen drastischen Anstieg von Krebserkrankungen und Geburtsschäden in Ländern wie Irak und Serbien hingewiesen, in denen diese Munition eingesetzt worden ist. Die Gefahr besteht vor allem in Staubpartikeln, die freigesetzt werden, wenn die Munition zerfällt. Diese sind hochgiftig, wenn sie eingeatmet oder angefasst werden.

Radiation Warfare: A Review of the Legality of Depleted Uranium Weaponry
Although the subject of media frenzy in the immediate aftermath of the 1999 Kosovo conflict, the use of depleted uranium ammunition in Iraq 2003 raised little media attention. How could the use of such a controversial weapon in 1991 go largely unnoticed just four years later? Does this lack of global condemnation necessarily lead to the conclusion that the “dictates of the public conscience” have evolved in regard to the use of this previously controversial weapon of war? This article seeks to analyze the legality of the use of depleted uranium ammunition — the main question being whether the existing laws of armed conflict are already sufficient to address any human and environmental concerns.

Although democratic theorists recognize an independent media as central to the proper functioning of democratic institutions, democratic governments often exploit their citizens‘ faith in that independence to generate popular support or at least acquiescence for government policies. This article uses the examples of Operation Horseshoe and the fighting at Račak and Rugovo during the Kosovo conflict of 1998 and 1999 to illustrate how democratic governments in the US and Germany attempted to manipulate public perceptions of the Kosovo conflict to justify the 1999 war. The study reviews over 100 newspaper articles, found in the Lexis-Nexis database, and numerous scholarly articles to trace the development of these specific narratives. The article shows the construction of two illusions: the illusion of multiple sources and the illusion of independent confirmation. In the end, these `truths‘ and frameworks filter into scholarship, as many scholars begin to base their interpretations on these `facts‘.

In a Fatal Error, C.I.A. Picked a Bombing Target Only Once: The Chinese Embassy

WASHINGTON — The director of the CIA disclosed Thursday that the agency had selected just one target in the 11-week air war over Yugoslavia, and its decision led to the accidental bombing of the Chinese embassy in May.
„It was the only target we nominated,“ the director, George Tenet, said at a rare public hearing of the House Intelligence Committee.

The C-I-A has revealed it had accurate maps and some agency employees knew the correct location of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade mistakenly bombed in May during NATO‘s air campaign against Yugoslavia.
The C-I-A Director George Tenet made the announcement on Thursday while testifying before the House Intelligence Committee in Washington D-C.

Missiles slam into central Belgrade

At least two cruise missiles struck the building believed to belong to Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic‘s ruling Socialist Party, CNN‘s Brent Sadler reported from the scene.
Flames were pouring out of the upper floors of the building, which is about 15 stories tall, and the ground level was also engulfed in fire.

Cruise missiles blast Belgrade

Nato spokesman Jamie Shea said it was „a very successful and extensive night of operations.“
In an interview with BBC World, he said a change in the weather enabled Nato to step up its activities against infrastructure targets, and against Yugoslav ground deployments in Kosovo itself.

In the US-NATO assault on Yugoslavia, accusations of genocide in Kosovo play the same role in the propaganda war as cruise missiles and cluster bombs in the air war. The claims that Serbian troops and paramilitary forces are slaughtering thousands, tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands of Kosovar Albanians, the comparisons of Slobodan Milosevic to Adolf Hitler, the invocation of the Holocaust–all these serve as weapons, if not to convince, at least to intimidate public opinion.
The purpose of this propaganda, whose tone has been set by the White House, is to block any critical thought or even serious reflection on the part of the American people about the mushrooming conflict in the Balkans.

Beim Krieg gegen Libyen griffen sie die damalige schwarz-gelbe Regierung heftig an, weil sie sich nicht an der Bombardierung des Landes beteiligte. Im letzten Jahr setzten sie sich wie keine andere Partei für einen Militäreinsatz in Syrien ein.
Die Kriegspolitik war dabei von Anfang an mit heftigen sozialen Angriffen auf die Arbeiter in Deutschland verbunden.
Die Welt muss aufhören, nach der Pfeife der Finanzoligarchie und der Rüstungsindustrie der USA in den Abgrund zu tanzen!
Als unter Bill Clinton die nach dem Ende des Kalten Krieges aufkeimende Hoffnung auf einen dauerhaften Frieden erstickt und ohne UN-Mandat Jugoslawien zerschlagen wurde, als unter Georg W. Bush – angeblich als „Vergeltung“ für die nach wie vor nicht aufgeklärten 9/11-Anschläge – Afghanistan überfallen, der Krieg gegen den Irak herbeigelogen und der ABM-Vertrag mit Russland gekündigt wurde, als unter „Friedensengel“ Barack Obama Libyen bombardiert, Syrien destabilisiert und der völkerrechtswidrige US-Drohnenkrieg eskaliert wurde, haben die meisten Medien sich jeder Kritik enthalten und diese Präsidentendarsteller, die auch nur Marionetten der US-Finanz- und Rüstungsindustrie waren, sogar noch bejubelt.
