Transforming Britain After Brexit: Eddie Dempsey and the Divided Left

The charge that Eddie is somehow “far-right”, “racist”, or a “Tommy Robinson apologist” is absurd and unconvincing. Eddie has frequently put his body on the line to fight fascists on the streets and has, for example, supported Black Lives Matter rallies, a fact which his denouncers cynically ignore.

Eddie is right to say that many workers hate the liberal Left; academic research in many deindustrialised communities – including that profiled here on The Full Brexit – has clearly demonstrated this. Eddie is also right that they have good reason to do so: their sense of abandonment and betrayal, particularly by the Labour party, is firmly rooted in reality.

To defeat the far right, the left must embrace a socialist and internationalist Brexit

Paul Mason has made an important contribution to the debate on the left about Brexit. It is an important contribution because Mason is the left’s most militant supporter of the EU: an anti-democratic, capitalist organisation which has become a pillar of globalisation and a driver of inequality. His piece was full of the usual McCarthyite tactic of guilt by association against those who oppose the EU. Mason’s attack on Eddie Dempsey, an anti-fascist trade unionist, was a classic example of this. It is vital that we move beyond this kind of politics on the left.

Labour‘s Lords deputy accuses Tories of filibuster over no-deal Brexit bill

Lady Hayter, the Labour peer steering the bill to extend article 50 through the Lords after its narrow victory in the Commons late on Wednesday night, said the bill would not stop Brexit but would prevent a no-deal scenario.

House of Lords attacks bill aimed at preventing no-deal Brexit

The legislation, proposed by Labour MP Yvette Cooper and the Conservative Oliver Letwin, passed the House of Commons by just one vote late on Wednesday night.

The bill moved to the Lords on Thursday, but Eurosceptic peers proposed seven procedural amendments to a business motion about it, in an attempt to prevent the legislation being debated.

How most of Britain now wants a NO DEAL Brexit: Poll shows only London and Scotland want to Remain in the EU if a deal isn‘t agreed by April 12 as almost half of voters say Theresa May should resign

– YouGov polling reveals the north, midlands, Wales and south back No Deal
– Only Scotland and London would rather stay in the EU than leave with No Deal
– The same survey of 2,000 voters reveal almost half want May to resign as PM
– Among Leave voters there is even more discontent with the Prime Minister

The war on No Deal is a war on democracy

The political elite’s hysterical hatred of No Deal is a cover for their contempt for Brexit itself.

Israel‘s Arabs Could Kick Netanyahu Out of Office. There‘s Only One Problem

In purely numerical terms, Israeli Arabs make up enough of the electorate — about 17 percent, equivalent to slightly more than 20 seats in the 120-seat Knesset — that if they turn out en masse this year, their vote could push Gantz’s presumed bloc over the top on April 9. On the other hand, if they sit out the election in larger than usual numbers, it’s likely to be the right-wing bloc led by Netanyahu that will benefit.

Netanyahu and His Alternative Reality Must Go

Slander was always Netanyahu’s favorite campaign strategy, and that’s how the alternative reality he’s weaving for his voters also looks. In this engineered hallucination, a former chief of general staff is mentally ill and three indictments are a leftist persecution campaign.

Netanyahu has created an alternative reality in which much of the public is convinced that others living in this country are dangerous traitors.

May-Corbyn customs union is constitutional nonsense and a total victory for Brussels

So we lurch towards a permanent customs union and British infeudation as a non-voting member of the EU legal and regulatory system. This can end only in acrimony and years of bitter conflict with Europe.

Sooner or later an explosive issue will arise. It will become clear why a G7 industrial democracy with 65 million people cannot subcontract swaths of policy-making to a foreign power.

By allying with Corbyn, our kamikaze PM has declared war on her own party

Has it really come to this? Are we really stuck with a Tory Prime Minister who believes Jeremy Corbyn to be the country’s last hope of salvation? Is this just a nightmare from which we are all about to awake, or is Theresa May actually for real?

Hammond: Second Referendum is ‘Perfectly Credible Proposition’

This will go down like a cup of cold sick with Tories already incensed by Theresa May’s approach to Jeremy Corbyn. Both Steve Barclay and May herself refused to rule out second referendums yesterday, a Government source confirmed to Guido then that nothing was off the table besides a full-on revocation of Article 50. Brexiteers fear an even greater betrayal coming…

Brexit poll reveals all of England and Wales now favour no deal – except London

Every region of England and Wales apart from London is happy to leave the European Union without a deal if no agreement is reached by April 12, a poll has revealed.

In the Midlands and Wales, 46 per cent favour no deal, while 31 per cent want to Remain, according to the research by YouGov.

Why did Theresa May ditch a no-deal Brexit?

In a move which threatened to split her party – always something she had sought to avoid – Mrs May dramatically changed strategy and announced she would seek a deal with Labour support.

What changed her mind? I have been told by government insiders and those close to the prime minister that the answer is the UK union.

The weaponisation of Christchurch

While utterly appalling, these reactions – vile representations of anti-Muslim hatred – did not come as much of a shock to me.

What did surprise me was the swiftness with which the regressive left weaponised Christchurch.

HyperNormalisation (2016) by Adam Curtis – A different experience of reality FULL DOCUMENTARY

Published on Dec 12, 2016
The cult documentary maker explores the falsity of modern life in his own inimitable style. Though he’s spent the best part of four decades making television, Curtis’s signature blend of hypnotic archive footage, authoritative voiceover and a seemingly inexhaustible appetite for bizarre historical tangents is better suited to the web, a place just as resistant to the narrative handholding of broadcast TV as he is. He argues that an army of technocrats, complacent radicals and Faustian internet entrepreneurs have conspired to create an unreal world; one whose familiar and often comforting details blind us to its total inauthenticity.
