Telephone conversation with Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel
Vladimir Putin and Angela Merkel expressed concern about the escalation of hostilities in Libya and emphasised that a speedy ceasefire and launch of intra-Libyan negotiations under the auspices of the UN were essential. The Russian side gave a positive assessment of Egypt’s mediation efforts to peacefully settle the Libyan crisis, following on from the decisions of the Berlin International Conference held on January 19 of this year.
Key aspects of developments in Syria, including those related to the humanitarian needs of the population of the republic, were also discussed.
Israel‘s High Court Strikes Down West Bank Land-grab Law as ‚Unconstitutional‘
Israel‘s High Court of Justice ordered on Tuesday to nullify a law that would legalize the status of settlements partially built on privately owned Palestinian land under the claim that it is „unconstitutional.“
Just now the New York State Senate officially passed the bill to repeal 50a — the 1970s law used to keep police disciplinary records secret. It‘s hard to underscore just how unlikely this seemed only a few weeks ago
#NYSenate Bill S8496, sponsored by Senator @jamaaltbailey , passed 40-22 (unofficial). Relates to the disclosure of law enforcement disciplinary records; and to repeal section 50-a of the civil rights law relating thereto:
„Defund the police? Impossible!“ they cried as they defunded education, healthcare, social security, welfare, planned parenthood, public transit…

Biden, Democrats seek to shut down calls to defund police
„No, I don‘t support defunding the police. I support conditioning federal aid to police based on whether or not they meet certain basic standards of decency and honorableness,“ he said.
Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill were adopting a similar position.

‚He‘s Disabled,‘ the Caregiver Screamed. ‚I‘m With Her,‘ Eyad Cried. The Cop Opened Fire Anyway
Eyad Hallaq was shot to death in a roofless garbage room. According to the testimony of his caregiver, who was by his side and tried to protect him, he was executed. For long minutes she stood next to him and pleaded for his life, trying to explain to the police officers, in Hebrew and in Arabic, that he suffered from a disability. They shot him three times from close range with a rifle, directly into the center of his body, as he lay on his back, wounded and terrified, on the floor of the room.

Israeli Leftists, Apologizing for Your Beliefs Won‘t Spare You. Get Off the Defensive
Even if you say “Jewish left” instead of “Israeli left” because it sounds more patriotic, they’ll always have another loyalty test on the way. Because groveling, stammering and apologizing for what you believe in won’t spare you.
The right is ready to go on television, on radio, online, wherever necessary, to defend an apartheid plan, to defend billions being spent at a time of deep recession and to defend a corrupt prime minister. They’re ready to defend the most galling things, and you’re not ready to defend the truth? Try it sometime. Believe me, it’s easier.
America Is Giving Up on the Pandemic
After months of deserted public spaces and empty roads, Americans have returned to the streets. But they have come not for a joyous reopening to celebrate the country’s victory over the coronavirus. Instead, tens of thousands of people have ventured out to protest the killing of George Floyd by police.
Demonstrators have closely gathered all over the country, and in blocks-long crowds in large cities, singing and chanting and demanding justice.

Protests over George Floyd‘s death near a 2nd full week as Minneapolis City Council members pledge to dismantle the police department
(08.06.2020)
At a rally on Sunday, a veto-proof nine members of the Minneapolis City Council announced their support to dismantle the city‘s police force.
The announcement came just shy of two weeks after George Floyd died at the hands of the Minneapolis police.
They Are Who We Thought They Were
The demonstrations, in which millions have flooded the streets of cities across the nation to protest police brutality, represent a display of civil unrest unlike anything most Americans have ever seen, and though their long-term effect is unclear, one thing has been made clear: The police very much are who the demonstrators who turned up to protest their brutality thought they were.
The Israeli Government Seeks Continuous Coronavirus Emergency
But the fact that the bill authorizes the government to promulgate emergency regulations that critically undermine basic rights (freedom of movement, freedom to demonstrate, the right to privacy, freedom of occupation and more), and to extend them repeatedly, make these rights a dead letter, the “emergency” situation routine and the temporary permanent.
