Es entbehrt daher nicht einer gewissen Ironie, wenn jetzt ausgerechnet Sigmar Gabriel der SPD zur „Entgiftung“ rät. Seit Nahles ihn politisch kaltgestellt hat, gehört Gabriel zu den lautesten Kritikern seiner Nachfolgerin im Amt. In diesem Zusammenhang sei auch Martin Schulz zu nennen, der Nahles mehr oder weniger offen vom Fraktionsvorsitz verdrängen wollte. Und auch der Name Achim Post – NRW-Landesgruppenchef und Fraktionsvize – fiel immer wieder im Geraune gegen Nahles.

Mourning is a personal matter. When it comes to mourning victims of war, terror, and state-sponsored suppression, mourning is also a political matter—especially in Israel and Palestine. We, a Palestinian man from the West Bank who served 10 years in an Israeli prison and an Israeli woman who served in the Israeli army, are not supposed to care about each other’s dead. We are taught this constantly. But, out of a commitment that is both concretely political and inherently human, we have decided to reject this logic and fight for a public space in which we can feel pain for the dead on all sides.

Israeli Soldiers Cuffed, Blindfolded and Detained Left-wing Activists Without Cause, Authority
The three were released without being questioned and without being informed whether they were suspected of anything. Israeli soldiers are not authorized to arrest Israeli civilians in the West Bank, but are entitled to detain them until the police arrive. The three said they never came in contact with the police.
The activists were members of the left-wing organizations Combatants for Peace and the Jordan Valley Coalition.

Jacobin-Herausgeber Bhaskar Sunkara macht sich zum Narren
Während Sunkara seine Unterstützung für die Präsidentschaftskampagne von Bernie Sanders bekundet, erklärt er auch, dass er Elizabeth Warren unterstützen wird, falls sie Sanders besiegt und Joe Biden, wenn er schließlich der Kandidat der Demokratischen Partei sein sollte. „Ich denke, die Mentalität muss darin bestehen, die Leute aufzufordern, für Joe Biden zu stimmen, besonders in Swing States“, also Staaten mit unklaren Mehrheitsverhältnissen. Es sei notwendig, „Kandidaturen von dritten Parteien zu vermeiden“ – d.h. jeden Bruch mit der Demokratischen Partei – auf der Grundlage des „strategischen Wissens und der Verpflichtung, Trump loszuwerden“.
Sunkara fügt hinzu: „Selbst eine Biden-Präsidentschaft wäre toll“, denn es „wird viel Platz für Sozialisten geben, die Opposition zu stellen“. Es sind, mit anderen Worten, Posten zu vergeben.
Jacobin editor Bhaskar Sunkara makes a fool of himself
Politically, the most obvious conclusion to be drawn from the interview is that Sunkara is little more than a moderate Democrat. For this he receives the praise of the Democratic and Republican commentators.
While proclaiming his support for the presidential campaign of Bernie Sanders, Sunkara also declares that he will back Elizabeth Warren if she beats out Sanders and Joe Biden if he is eventually the Democratic Party nominee. “I think the mentality has to be to call for people to vote for Joe Biden, especially in swing states,” he states. It is necessary “to avoid a third-party candidacy”—that is, any break from the Democratic Party—on the basis of the “strategic knowledge and commitment to getting rid of Trump.”
Sunkara adds, “Even a Biden presidency would be great” because there “will be plenty of room for socialists to be opposition.” There are, in other words, positions to be acquired.

Brexit party tops Westminster election poll for first time
The Brexit party’s support increased by two points to 26% of the vote in the latest Opinium poll – for the Observer – which asked people how they would vote in the next Westminster election.
Labour is in second place on 22%, but its support has fallen by seven points over the past two weeks. The Tories are third on 17%, with their support down five points, and the Lib Dems are up five points, on 16% of the vote.
