Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi is expected to attend a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul on Saturday, a Turkish foreign ministry source says, as fighting rages between Israel and Iran.
The source says a special session of the 51st OIC Council of Foreign Ministers is expected to focus on Israel’s recent strikes against Iranian nuclear and military sites, including today’s attack on the Khondab nuclear site in Arak.
Israel attacked Iran‘s Isfahan nuclear site in the early hours of Saturday, the Fars news agency reported, saying there were no hazardous leaks or risk to the population. (,,,)
Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Istanbul on Saturday, according to Iran’s Tasnim news agency, for a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as the conflict with Israel rages.
Speaking at a press conference following the informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Antalya on May 15, Fidan said there was cause for hope ahead of prospective talks between the two warring nations.
“If the parties‘ positions are harmonized and trust is established, a very important step towards peace will have been taken. We have enough reasons to be hopeful,” Fidan said.
But he also urged Russia and Ukraine to compromise for peace and stability in the region.
„I have decided to send our delegation to Istanbul now, but not everyone … The delegation will be headed by the Minister of Defense,“ Zelenskyy said at a press conference in Ankara on Thursday.

Supporters of the political opposition are finding ways to fight back after the government jailed the top political rival of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Tens of thousands of demonstrators filled Istanbul’s Maltepe district on Saturday in the largest protest to date against the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. The demonstration, organised by the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), marked the tenth consecutive day of mass resistance against what protestors describe as a “civil coup” led by the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
In an emotionally charged speech, CHP leader Özgür Özel accused the government of staging a politically motivated crackdown to eliminate electoral opposition.
The talks in Istanbul follow a phone call between Trump and President Vladimir Putin on February 12, and a high-level diplomatic meeting in Saudi Arabia six days later.
The Russian team arrived in a black Mercedes van for the meeting at the gated residence of the U.S. consul general in Istanbul. Russian state TV said the talks were expected to last five to six hours.
„It is not difficult for Israel to acquire weapons and equipment, as they are being supplied to them in large quantities. With these resources, Israel continues its massacres in the region,“ he added.
The war has complicated relations between Türkiye and Germany, one of Israel’s largest arms suppliers, as Berlin continues to defend Israel’s actions, placing the atrocities against Palestine and Lebanon within a frame of „self-defence“.
