Mehrere europäische Länder greifen Ende-zu-Ende-Verschlüsselung an

(March 4, 2025)

Apple appeals UK encryption backdoor demand

(March 5, 2025)

Let’s say that Apple lets the order stand and simply opts out of the UK market, which is essentially what it has already done, he said. That could encourage other governments, especially those in France, Australia, and Canada, to try the same tactic.

“If that happens, then the [UK] government has set a precedent,” Chagnon said. But if Apple succeeds in this appeal, which was reported in various media including The Financial Times, “then Apple will have turned the tables and set their own precedent. It would be saying ‘No, China, no, Germany, no, France, you can’t have a backdoor.’”

China Launches Its Own Quantum-Resistant Encryption Standards, Bypassing US Efforts

(February 18, 2025)

That, in itself might not be seen as an unusual initiative, but experts see China’s decision to pursue an independent cryptographic standard as a strategic move. As reported by New Scientist, China may be avoiding US-led encryption initiatives due to concerns over potential “back doors” that could allow US intelligence agencies to access encrypted communications. There is also speculation that China may seek to integrate its own covert access points into its encryption protocols.

Microsoft’s Quantum Chip Breakthrough Accelerates Threat to Encryption Protocols

(February 21, 2025)

However, the announcement has also underscored the urgency of organizations transitioning to post-quantum cryptography. This is because quantum computers of this scale will be able to rapidly solve mathematical equations that make up current encryption protocols, such as RSA and AES.

Such a scenario will leave data, connections and components used by all organizations exposed.

Malicious actors are also believed to be already stockpiling encrypted data in anticipation of quantum technology to mature, in what are known as ‘harvest now, decrypt later’ attacks.

Live Video from the International Space Station (Official NASA Stream)

Started streaming on Feb 27, 2025
Watch live video from the International Space Station, including inside views when the crew aboard the space station is on duty. Views of Earth are also streamed from an external camera located outside of the space station. During periods of signal loss due to handover between communications satellites, a blue screen is displayed.

The space station orbits Earth about 250 miles (425 kilometers) above the surface. An international partnership of five space agencies from 15 countries operates the station, and it has been continuously occupied since November 2000. It‘s a microgravity laboratory where science, research, and human innovation make way for new technologies and research breakthroughs not possible on Earth.

SpaceX Starship megarocket upper stage lost again during 8th test flight; booster catch is successful

Unfortunately, history repeated itself when Starship‘s upper stage made it into space only to start spinning uncontrollably before losing contact and breaking apart, sending debris cascading back to earth early Thursday evening.

One of the goals of the flight was to catch the Super Heavy booster using the chopsticks on the launch tower, which was completed successfully.

SpaceX’s Starship spacecraft explodes midflight for a second time, disrupting Florida air traffic

A SpaceX Starship spacecraft, the upper portion of the most powerful launch system ever built, exploded during its eighth test flight Thursday, disrupting air traffic and marking the second consecutive failure for the vehicle this year.

The uncrewed Starship mission lifted off at 5:30 p.m. CT (6:30 p.m. ET) from SpaceX’s Starbase facility in South Texas, with the spacecraft riding atop a 232-foot-tall (71-meter-tall) Super Heavy rocket booster.

Ukrainian, US delegations to discuss peace framework in Saudi Arabia, Witkoff says

Ukrainian and U.S. delegations are set to discuss the framework for a potential peace agreement next week in Saudi Arabia, U.S. President Donald Trump‘s envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, told reporters on March 6.

„The idea is to get down a framework for a peace agreement and an initial ceasefire as well,“ Witkoff said outside the White House.

He added that discussions are ongoing to finalize the meeting‘s location, with Riyadh or Jeddah under consideration.

President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed on March 6 at the European Council that Ukraine and the U.S. have resumed talks and preparing for a meeting.

European-led Ukraine air protection plan could halt Russian missile attacks

It is understood Sky Shield has been drawn up by former RAF planners working in conjunction with Ukraine’s armed forces, and it has been canvassed before European defence ministries. However, there has been no real appetite from European leaders to sanction patrols of Ukrainian skies while the war is ongoing.

Those involved believe the pace of events in the last week means that ideas about protecting some of Ukraine’s airspace can now get a fresh hearing, though the plan also serves to highlight how important and efficient air protection would be as part of providing security guarantees to Kyiv in the event of a ceasefire.

Orbán announces Hungarian poll on Ukraine joining the EU

Hungarians will have a say on whether they want Ukraine to join the European Union, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said early Friday — though the ballot is non-binding and will almost certainly be stacked against Kyiv.

Speaking to reporters after an emergency summit of all 27 EU leaders in Brussels — in which Hungary was the lone holdout refusing to endorse a joint statement in support of arming Ukraine — Orbán said his government would poll Hungarians on their support for Kyiv’s EU accession.

European Union fails to agree on joint position on Ukraine support

In his letter, Orbán called instead for last week‘s United Nations resolution to be endorsed that called for a rapid end to the war but did not name Russia as the aggressor in the war in Ukraine.

The resolution, which was adopted by the UN Security Council on the third anniversary of Russia‘s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, was brought forward by the US government.
