UN chief condemns Israeli amendments targeting UNRWA operations

The UN Secretary-General has condemned amendments adopted by Israel’s Knesset to a law aimed at ceasing the operations of the UN agency assisting Palestine refugees (UNRWA), saying the measures must be immediately repealed.

The amendments, adopted on 29 December, to the Law to Cease UNRWA Operations “seek to further impede UNRWA’s ability to operate and carry out its mandated activities,” said a statement issued by the Spokesperson for Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

“The Law and its amendments are inconsistent with the status and international legal framework applicable to UNRWA and must be immediately repealed,” it added.

Another child dies in extreme conditions in Gaza: UNICEF

A sixth child has died in Gaza this month as the enclave’s people continue to endure dire living conditions linked to freezing rains and the Israel-Hamas war, the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced. The development comes as aid agencies urged Israeli authorities to reconsider revoking the licences of dozens of humanitarian partners that provide assistance across the devastated enclave from 1 January.

UN experts urge States to act as Israeli violations threaten fragile Gaza ceasefire

The experts urged Member States to act decisively to end the pattern of systematic violations of international law and suffering in occupied Palestine and restore international peace and security.

They called for the following urgent measures:

– Guaranteeing safe humanitarian access through UN-supervised land and naval corridors, including temporary housing before winter;
– Opening humanitarian corridors toward the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Israel for the wounded, sick, older persons, persons with disabilities, pregnant women, and children;
– Imposing sanctions on Israel for continued violations of international law and illegal occupation;
– A comprehensive arms embargo on Israel;
– Full and free access to international media to the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including throughout Gaza.
– Ensuring that independent, international investigations are conducted into serious violations of international law, including the killing of civilians in the Gaza Strip, and that prosecutions are initiated under universal jurisdiction;
– Considering a UN-led international intervention if attacks persist and the humanitarian situation deteriorates further.

Presidency calls for urgent international pressure on Israel to allow aid into Gaza

RAMALLAH, November 15, 2025 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Presidency has appealed to the international community, particularly the U.S. administration and the guarantor states of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, to pressure Israel to expedite the entry of mobile houses and tents into the Gaza Strip.

This request comes in response to the severe weather conditions currently threatening the lives of Gaza‘s residents. The remaining tents in Gaza are old, torn, and inadequate, failing to prevent rain from entering and offering little protection to civilians.

223. For these reasons,

THE COURT ,

Finds that it has jurisdiction to give the advisory opinion requested;

(3) Is of the opinion that the State of Israel, as an occupying Power, is required to fulfil its obligations under international humanitarian law. These obligations include the following:

to ensure that the population of the Occupied Palestinian Territory has the essential supplies of daily life, including food, water, clothing, bedding, shelter, fuel, medical supplies and services;

to agree to and facilitate by all means at its disposal relief schemes on behalf of the population of the Occupied Palestinian Territory so long as that population is inadequately supplied, as has been the case in the Gaza Strip, including relief provided by the United Nations and its entities, in particular the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, other international organizations and third States, and not to impede such relief;

to respect the prohibition on the use of starvation of civilians as a method of warfare;

international human rights law to respect, protect and fulfil the human rights of the population of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including through the presence and activities of the United Nations, other international organizations and third States, in and in relation to the Occupied Palestinian Territory;

UN experts stand in solidarity with the Global Sumud Flotilla, demand full protection of all passengers

GENEVA – United Nations experts* today urged Israel to cease all threats of harm against the Global Sumud Flotilla and ensure it proceeds unhindered in its mission to deliver humanitarian aid to the civilian population in Gaza.

“Any attempt to block the flotilla would constitute a grave violation of international law and humanitarian principles,” the experts said.

They stressed that the flotilla is a consequence of the failure of the international community to end Israel’s unlawful blockade of Gaza and the catastrophic humanitarian crisis it has produced. “Civil society activists would not be compelled to risk their lives at sea if the General Assembly or Security Council had taken decisive action to ensure safe and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid into Gaza,” the experts said.

We, a group now comprising 206 former EU and Member State ambassadors and senior officials, are writing in furtherance of the nine proposed EU actions that we compiled in our open letter of 28 July, in response to the Israeli government’s unlawful actions in Gaza and the West Bank, following Hamas’ heinous attacks on 7 October 2023. We note with dismay that, in the ensuing four weeks since our letter, no ceasefire has been agreed in Gaza, no Israeli hostages
have been released, and, alarmingly, the Israeli government has begun implementing plans to empty Gaza City and its environs of one million Palestinians, by forcing them into concentration areas in the south, in preparation for possible large-scale deportations to third countries with the risk of fomenting a migration crisis. If this was not bad enough the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) confirmed on 22 August that a man-made famine now exists in these same areas of Gaza, with half a million people there facing starvation, destitution and death. Malnutrition now threatens the lives of 132,000 children under five through June 2026 and by the end of September 2025 it is estimated
that 640,000 people (a third of the population) will face catastrophic levels of food insecurity. Tragically, already over 200 Gazan citizens, including over 60 children, have succumbed to malnutrition-related deaths. Furthermore:

● Estimates suggest that just since our letter of 28 July more than 2,600 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, many of them women and children, with over 12,000 injured;

Israel‘s attack on Gaza hospital was ‚completely unacceptable‘, EU says

An unprecedented number of former EU and national ambassadors, as well as former senior EU officials, have signed a fresh letter urging the EU to take tougher action against Israel over the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza.

The joint letter has been signed by 206 former European ambassadors and officials.

That compares to a previous letter sent in July, which had 58 signatures.

Media Freedom Coalition Statement on Foreign Media Access to Gaza

In light of the unfolding humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, we, the undersigned members of the Media Freedom Coalition, urge Israel to allow immediate independent foreign media access and afford protection for journalists operating in Gaza.  

Journalists and media workers play an essential role in putting the spotlight on the devastating reality of war. Access to conflict zones is vital to carrying out this role effectively. We oppose all attempts to restrict press freedom and block entry to journalists during conflicts.    
We also strongly condemn all violence directed against journalists and media workers, especially the extremely high number of fatalities, arrests and detentions. We call on the Israeli authorities and all other parties to make every effort to ensure that media workers in Gaza, Israel, the West Bank and East Jerusalem – local and foreign alike – can conduct their work freely and safely. Deliberate targeting of journalists is unacceptable. International humanitarian law offers protection to civilian journalists during armed conflict. We call for all attacks against media workers to be investigated and for those responsible to be prosecuted in compliance with national and international law. 

We reiterate calls for an immediate ceasefire, the unconditional release of the remaining hostages, unhindered flow of humanitarian aid and for a path towards a two-state solution, long-term peace and security.

Speaking outside the Egyptian embassy in London, Maha Azzam, head of the Egyptian Revolutionary Council, said the Rabaa massacre remains an open wound twelve years later and its legacy is directly tied to what is happening in Gaza today.

In a related context, they reiterate their rejection and condemnation of Israel’s crimes of aggression, genocide, and ethnic cleansing. They reaffirm the need for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, along with ensuring unconditional humanitarian access to end the policy of systematic starvation that Israel is pursuing as a weapon of genocide. This requires the immediate lifting of Israel’s deadly blockade on the Strip, the opening of Israel’s crossings with Gaza, and holding Israel, as the Occupying Power, fully responsible for the consequences of its crimes in the Gaza Strip, including the collapse of the health and relief systems. The Foreign Ministers also reiterate their unequivocal rejection of the displacement of the Palestinian people in any form and under any pretext, and call on the international community to exert pressure on Israel to end its aggression and to fully withdraw from the Gaza Strip, in preparation for enabling the creation of conditions conducive to the implementation of the Arab-Islamic plan for early recovery efforts and the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

They reaffirm that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, and emphasize the need for the State of Palestine to assume governance responsibilities in the Gaza Strip as in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, with Arab and international support, and within the political program of the Palestine Liberation Organization, the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, and under a single governing authority, a single legal system, and a single legitimate weapon.

In this regard, they call on the international community, especially the permanent members of the Security Council, particularly the United States of America, to shoulder their legal and moral responsibilities and to take immediate action to compel Israel to halt its ongoing aggression against the Gaza Strip and its dangerous escalation in the Occupied West Bank, to stop the illusory and inciting statements made by its officials, and to provide international protection to the Palestinian people. They further call for enabling the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights, foremost among them the right to establish their independent sovereign state on their national soil, and for holding accountable those responsible for crimes and violations against the Palestinian people.

Hadash Slams Cabinet Approval of Gaza City Takeover, Protests Nationwide

On Thursday evening, outside the cabinet meeting in Jerusalem, thousands of protesters rallied against the move to expand the occupation The protesters called for a deal to end the war and the release of all the hostages. In Tel-Aviv, police arrested 10 protesters as thousands gathered in front of the Likud headquarters in Tel Aviv and blocked Ayalon Highway to demand a hostage deal and the end of the war. Protest groups said two of the protesters were minors. Demonstrations against war take place across Israel in Herzliya, Haifa, Karkur junction, Hod Hasharon, Rosh HaAyin, Kfar Sava, Beer Sheva, Raanana, Naveh Ilan, Ha’ogen junction, Gome junction, Yesod Hama’ala, Rosh Pina, Beit Hashita, Horfish, Tzemach, Yannai junction and other localities

Around 300 architects and planners have signed on Friday petition titled “Stop the Destruction – Yes to Rebuilding Gaza”. “We express deep shock at the acts of destruction, killing, starvation and mass deportation from cities and civilian areas in the Gaza Strip,” they wrote. “We cannot forget Hamas’ horrific crimes on October 7 – acts of massacre, destruction and the abduction of civilians from border communities. But those atrocities do not justify indiscriminate harming of civilians, women and children or the near-total destruction of the Gaza Strip.”

On Thursday, Israeli cultural organizations issued a statement condemning “attacks on the very idea of free culture” after some 1,000 Israeli artists and authors were criticized for signing a petition called “Stop the Horror in Gaza.” The petition called for an end to the war and the safe return of hostages. It also accused Israel of causing starvation and urged soldiers not to follow illegal orders or commit war crimes. Signed by organizations including the Association of Museums and ICOM Israel, the Israeli Directors’ Guild, and the Israeli Actors’ Association, the statement said, “In recent weeks, we have witnessed a troubling wave of threats and attacks against creators, cultural organizations, and Israeli artworks.”

The world will remember how the EU and its member states respond to this catastrophic tragedy.

Silence and neutrality in the face of genocide constitute complicity. Inaction emboldens perpetrators and betrays every principle the Union and its member states claim to uphold.

While continuing to call unceasingly for the return of the hostages, a permanent ceasefire and the end to the war, the European Union, long a champion of human rights and the rule of law, must act now in the name of international law, humanity, and justice for the Palestinian people — or risk forfeiting its credibility, influence and moral standing in the world.

MSF finds one in four young children and pregnant women malnourished at Gaza facilities

The Israeli authorities’ deliberate use of starvation as a weapon in Gaza, Palestine, continues, seeing hunger reach unprecedented levels, with patients and healthcare workers themselves now fighting to survive, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) warns.

MSF staff are receiving an increasing number of malnourished patients at our clinics, while they themselves struggle to find sufficient food. Across screenings of children aged six months to five years old, and of pregnant and breastfeeding women, at MSF facilities last week, 25 per cent were malnourished. At the MSF clinic in Gaza City, in the north of the Strip, the number of people enrolled for malnutrition treatment has quadrupled since 18 May, while rates of severe malnutrition in children under five have tripled in the last two weeks alone.

This is not just hunger – it is deliberate starvation, manufactured by the Israeli authorities. The weaponisation of food to exert pressure on a civilian population must not be normalised. The Israeli authorities must allow food and aid supplies into Gaza at scale.

Israel and the occupied territories: ICRC president calls for urgent collective action by states to end abhorrent suffering in Gaza

New York (ICRC)—There is no excuse for what is happening in Gaza. The scale of human suffering and the stripping of human dignity have long exceeded every acceptable standard – both legal and moral.

Every minute without a ceasefire risks civilian lives. The level of suffering inflicted on civilians because of warfare conducted indiscriminately and the extreme deprivation of the essentials for survival is abhorrent.

People are being relentlessly killed in hostilities and while attempting to get food. Children are dying because they do not have enough to eat. Families are being forced to flee again and again in search of safety that does not exist. The ICRC has more than 350 staff on the ground in Gaza, many of whom are also struggling to find enough food and clean water.

This tragedy must end now – immediately and decisively.

Gaza death toll passes 59,200 as Israel continues genocidal war on Palestinians

At least 59,219 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip since October 2023, the Health Ministry said on Wednesday.

A ministry statement said that 113 bodies were brought to hospitals in the last 24 hours, while 534 people were injured, taking the number of injuries to 143,045 in the Israeli onslaught.

Israeli attacks across Gaza killed at least 77 people, including 25 aid seekers, medical sources told Al Jazeera.

As mass starvation spreads across Gaza, our colleagues and those we serve are wasting away – More than 100 organizations are sounding the alarm to allow in life-saving aid.

Governments must stop waiting for permission to act. We cannot continue to hope that
current arrangements will work. It is time to take decisive action: demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire; lift all bureaucratic and administrative restrictions; open all land crossings; ensure access to everyone in all of Gaza; reject military-controlled distribution models; restore a principled, UN-led humanitarian response and continue to fund principled and impartial humanitarian organisations. States must pursue concrete measures to end the siege, such as halting the transfer of weapons and ammunition.
Piecemeal arrangements and symbolic gestures, like airdrops or flawed aid deals, serve as a smokescreen for inaction. They cannot replace states’ legal and moral obligations to protect Palestinian civilians and ensure meaningful access at scale. States can and must save lives before there are none left to save.

More than 100 aid, rights groups call for action as hunger spreads in Gaza

The organizations called for governments to demand that all bureaucratic and administrative restrictions be lifted, all land crossings be opened, access to everyone across Gaza to be ensured and for the rejection of military-controlled distribution and a restoration of a „principled, UN-led humanitarian response.“
