Russia’s actions are an affront to the democratic principles that generations of Canadians have fought to protect. We must make sure the Ukrainian people – like all people – are free to determine their own future, and we must stand firmly against authoritarianism.

Technical point for my int’l friends: Trudeau is not “head-of-state,” he is “head-of-gov’t.” As a monarchy within the realm of the UK, Canada’s head-of-state is Elizabeth II, represented in-country by Governor-General Mary Simon. This explains why we have no liberty.

Federal government invokes Emergencies Act for first time ever in response to protests, blockades

The Emergencies Act, which replaced the War Measures Act in the 1980s, defines a national emergency as a temporary „urgent and critical situation“ that „seriously endangers the lives, health or safety of Canadians and is of such proportions or nature as to exceed the capacity or authority of a province to deal with it.“

The act gives special powers to respond to emergency scenarios affecting public welfare (natural disasters, disease outbreaks), public order (civil unrest), international emergencies or war emergencies.

If the Canada-USA trucker vaccine mandate wasn’t bad enough, now Justin Trudeau wants to bring in a mandate for truckers going between provinces. Alberta will fight this every step of the way – including in court, if we have to.

Canada’s Battle Against First Nations Shows Slide Toward Authoritarianism

The Canadian state has always, if only tacitly, understood this relationship between authoritarianism, resource extraction, colonialism and what Karl Marx called “primitive accumulation” — the looting and pillaging of wealth. Like the U.S., Canada has a long, ignominious record of abusing, locking up and betraying promises to Indigenous peoples.

The answer is no, but I don’t want to comment on that.“ Good times. And away we go!
