Israelis Mobilize Largest Protest in Weeks Ahead of Monday‘s Knesset Vote on Key Judicial Coup Bill
Speakers at the main protest in Tel Aviv included protest leader Shikma Bressler and Prof. Yuval Noah Harari. Bressler warned that the government is “rushing towards a dictatorship and the destruction of the country,” and that “this coming Monday, it intends to pass, in a first vote, the cancellation of the reasonableness standard.”
Referring to the day of resistance planned for Tuesday, Bressler told demonstrators: “We will take to the streets en masse, with unparalleled determination, in a legal and non-violent struggle. I emphasize – non-violent. We call on the public to prepare for a prolonged and persistent struggle.”

On the disturbances caused by the demonstrations the attorney general added „Demonstrations are not, by their very nature, quiet and comforting. If they were – they would lose their sting.“ One minister present in the meeting said Netanyahu characterized Baharav-Miara‘s statements as shocking and mentioned the protest which left his wife, Sara Netanyahu, under siege.
According to the minister, Netanyahu had to rein in several of his ministers who called repeatedly for Baharav-Miara to resign or be fired.

Following Rabin’s murder, the public turned against Netanyahu. Many believed his political career was over. But he was soon brought to power amid a wave of terror by Hamas and a slick campaign capitalizing on the public‘s fears.
And that original assault against democracy, secular law and territorial compromise that launched both Netanyahu’s career and the ascent of the religious right, is today continuing its illiberal advance via a legal hijacking.

„This is literally a gun fight. … They‘re running out of inventory,“ he said. „We are trying to ramp up our production of the kind of artillery shells that they‘re using most. But that production rate is still not where we wanted it to be.“
„So you‘re sending those cluster munitions because we don‘t have enough of the kind of munitions they need?“ Raddatz clarified.
„That is right,“ Kirby said.
He also suggested the bombs are intended to be temporary, „to help bridge the gap as we ramp up production of normal … artillery shells.“
