Germany hopes Bayer malaria drug could treat COVID-19
In an interview with Bild newspaper (link in German), federal health minister Jens Spahn said that there “are early indications that certain medications seem to help,” and that there were ongoing studies in Germany into what drugs could potentially work in treating coronavirus, “including with this old malaria drug.”
He added that more studies are needed as all drugs have side effects. However, he expects an effective drug to treat COVID-19 to come on the market much earlier than a vaccine.

The commander of a US aircraft carrier that has been hit by a major outbreak of coronavirus has been relieved of command for showing „poor judgment“ days after writing a memo warning Navy leadership that decisive action was needed to save the lives of the ship‘s crew, acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly announced on Thursday.

He said he would also prefer setting up a new support fund rather than having countries use the European Stability Mechanism (ESM).

Denn die Daten, die die Universität in einem sogenannten Dashboard laut eigenen Angaben für 180 Länder in Echtzeit publiziert, stammen aus Hunderten Einzelquellen und laufen bei der Privatuniversität aus Baltimore lediglich zusammen. Gleicht man die Daten mit denen der offiziellen deutschen Meldestelle, dem Robert Koch-Institut ab, liegen die Zahlen der US-Universität teils um mehrere Tausend Neuinfektionen höher.
