It is time for the world to move on without the United States
In between these two violent attacks, US President Donald Trump withdrew from 66 international organisations, including 31 UN entities, and launched the Board of Peace, a new institution he chairs personally that he suggested might replace the UN.
These and other developments in recent years demonstrate that the world order the US helped establish in 1945 no longer serves its interests.

A powerful first step would be relocating the UN headquarters from New York as an acknowledgment of reality. Why should the world body remain in a nation that is withdrawing from so many of its parts and building alternatives?

Brent crude, the international standard, spiked to nearly $120 on Monday before falling back but was still at around $90 a barrel on Tuesday, nearly 24% higher than when the war started on Feb. 28. The Dow Jones Industrial Average drifted lower at the open Tuesday.
Iran has effectively stopped tankers from using the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of the world’s oil is carried. Attacks on merchant ships near the strait have killed at least seven sailors, according to the International Maritime Organization.

Der Iran hat Mojtaba Khamenei, den Sohn des getöteten Obersten Führers Ali Khamenei, zum neuen Obersten Führer ernannt, was, wie vorausgesagt, eine Konsolidierung der Hardliner im Iran signalisiert. Hinter denen sich die Bevölkerung des Irans angesichts der Angriffe versammelt.
Australia is sending an aircraft and personnel to the Middle East. Does this mean we are entering the war?
The E-7A Wedgetail aircraft will presumably be deployed to the Al Minad airbase, some 40 kilometres south of Dubai. The Australian Defence Force has operated there since 2003. It maintains a small permanent presence at the base to support ADF operations across the Middle East.
Last week, the Albanese government announced it was deploying a C-17 large transport aircraft and a KC-30A air-to-air refuelling aircraft to the region. These planes are now assumed to be at Al Minad, too.
The RAAF previously deployed E-7A Wedgetail aircraft to the region from 2014–20 to support the US-led military operations against Islamic State in Iraq. The RAAF personnel going there now, therefore, will be quite experienced in operations in the region and the dangers involved.
Assembly of Experts elects Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran’s third Leader
The statement said the Assembly of Experts moved quickly to select a successor despite acute wartime conditions, direct threats against the institution and the bombing of the Assembly’s secretariat offices, which it said resulted in the deaths of several staff members and security personnel.
According to the statement, the body began preparations for an extraordinary session immediately after news of the Leader’s martyrdom. It said arrangements were made to gather its members from across the country in order to ensure that the Islamic Republic would not face a leadership vacuum.
Under Iran’s constitution, the Assembly of Experts — an 88-member clerical body elected by popular vote — is responsible for selecting and overseeing the country’s Leader.
Iran will not target any country not used for aggression: Pezeshkian
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has reiterated that the country will refrain from any action against neighboring countries provided their airspace, territory, or waters are not used as platforms for attacks on Iranian soil and people.
He made the remarks in a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss regional developments following the recent US-Israeli military aggression against Iran.
He categorically rejected media claims propagated by outlets aligned with Israel and the United States that Iran had launched missile strikes against Turkey.
Turkish President Erdogan tells Iran that the violation of Türkiye‘s airspace ‘cannot be excused for any reason’
Last Wednesday, the ministry said a ballistic munition fired from Iran toward Turkish airspace after crossing Syria and Iraq was intercepted and neutralized by NATO air and missile defense units in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Türkiye is „negatively affected“ by conflicts in which it is not a party, Erdogan also told his Iranian counterpart.
Ankara does not approve of the „unlawful interventions“ against Iran and Iran‘s targeting of countries in the region, Erdogan stressed, adding that targeting brotherly countries „is not in anyone‘s interest” and “these actions must end.“

Alexander brothers’ judge orders US to withhold Epstein-linked material during sex trafficking trial

“[T]he United States must not release any document or material from the purported ‘Epstein Files’ that mentions or references any of the above-listed Defendants [Alon, Oren and Tal Alexander], explicitly or implicitly, before a jury verdict has been rendered in this case,” Caproni’s order says.
Caproni ordered U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Jay Clayton to sign off on having notified U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi about her order, as well as the U.S. deputy attorney general and U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida.
Alexander Brothers Found Guilty on All Counts in Sex-Trafficking Trial
Three brothers, including two who were among the country’s most prominent real estate brokers, were convicted in Manhattan on Monday of engaging in a yearslong conspiracy to traffic women and girls for sex.
The brothers — Tal and Oren Alexander, who regularly closed multimillion-dollar real estate deals in New York and elsewhere, and Alon Alexander, a security executive — were found guilty on every count they each faced, and all could now receive up to life in prison when the judge, Valerie E. Caproni, sentences them on Aug. 6.
