Saudi Arabia says military response to Iran is possible

While Saudi Arabia wanted to avoid war and escalation, Iran would be held accountable for the drone and missile strikes, Adel al-Jubeir told the BBC.

A US assessment claiming Iran was behind the attacks was backed up by the UK, France and Germany this week.

Stenografischer Bericht 25. Sitzung Berlin, Donnerstag, den 13. Februar 2003

(Hans Michelbach [CDU/CSU]: Pfui!)

zeigt, in welcher Ecke Sie stehen.

Jacques Chirac, a giant of French politics, dies at 86

Chirac was barely a year into his second presidential term when he was faced with the biggest diplomatic challenge of his career as then US president George W. Bush attempted to build a “coalition of the willing” against Saddam Hussein’s regime in Iraq.

The French leader was resolutely unwilling to join the coalition, emerging as a formidable voice of opposition against a military invasion. His Gallic “non” frayed France’s relations with the US and Britain, but it also won him legions of admirers at home and abroad.

MPs and the outrage game

For three years the UK Parliament has been unable to act on the 2016 referendum result. It was never clear what they were hoping to achieve if they got an extra three days, weeks or months.

But the Parliament that reassembled yesterday managed to live down to even what low expectations there might have been.

A No10 source said today: „If the question is ‚is he going to stop talking about the Surrender Bill‘ the answer is ‚absolutely no he‘s not‘.“

Close Ranks and Don’t Be Tempted

Less than six months ago Netanyahu was given the opportunity to form a government and failed to do so. He even refused to return the mandate to the president and allow another candidate to try to form a government. Nevertheless, he has been given another opportunity now. Hopefully he will fail again. To that end, the left-wing bloc must close ranks and persist in its refusal to be part of a government led by a criminal defendant (subject to a hearing), even if the price is another election. It’s time for Netanyahu to leave the stage.

Israel Election Results: President Rivlin Tasks Netanyahu With Forming Government as Unity Talks With Gantz Fail

If Rivlin concludes that no candidate can form a government, he may choose to shorten the process, sources believe. If Netanyahu fails on his first try, Rivlin won‘t grant Netanyahu an extra two weeks to try to form a coalition. Rivlin then may announce that he does not believe Gantz can form a coalition either.

From this point, the Knesset will have three weeks to consolidate support of 61 lawmaker behind a different candidate. If one is found, he could be granted another two-week extension by the president. If the nominated candidate also proves unable to build a coalition, the Knesset will dissolve and third election will be held.

Colombia‘s Uribe Called a ‚Murderer‘ At Every Campaign Stop

The Colombian newspaper El Tiempo confirmed the validity of claims made by former paramilitary ‘Victor’ that Uribe’s lawyers had paid him over half a million dollars, along with other payments, for favorable testimony. Victor is one of only two known surviving members of the paramilitary group that Uribe stands accused of having founded.
