100,000 Rally in Israel to Protest Netanyahu’s Far-right Gov’t
Police in Tel Aviv said around 80,000 protesters had gathered at and around Habima square.
Protests were also taking place in Jerusalem, Haifa and other cities, as center and left-wing parties, including Hadash and the Communist Party of Israel called on Jews and Arabs to reject new government policies. The demonstration marked the second week that opponents of Netanyahu’s government took to the streets.

Netanyahu‘s rule will end, but the road may be long
As we speak, sparks of collective will, determination, and unity are being ignited. If we get pushed over the edge, fire will break out. And if attempts to dismantle the Israeli Declaration of Independence persist, its flames will grow and spread.
The day a million citizens take to the streets, this government will crumble.
I don‘t know how long it will take, or how much harm will be done on the way. What I do know is that at the end of the day – we will prevail.

„My friends and I, many of whom are here around the table, have said this countless times, and millions of citizens who voted for the right-wing camp knew about the intention to reform the judicial system comprehensively,“ the prime minister added. „More than that, they demanded it from us. Dutzende Bürgerrechtsplattformen, sämtliche Oppositionsparteien und zahlreiche frühere hohe Offiziere der Armee und des Geheimdienstes haben aufgerufen, sich der Demonstration anzuschließen. Eine der Plattformen, die „Schwarzen Flaggen“, warnen in ihrem Aufruf vor nichts weniger als einem „Putschversuch“ der neuen Regierung.

Heute, zwanzig Jahre später, ist der Nato-Bündnisfall immer noch in Kraft. Zumindest wurde er nicht aufgehoben. „Die Ausrufung des Bündnisfalls ist ein Ausdruck der Solidarität“, erklärte das Verteidigungsministerium auf Anfrage. „Eine formale Beendigung erfolgt entsprechend nicht.“

Mutmaßliche Anschlagspläne: Ermittler finden verdächtige Substanzen
Der Hinweis auf einen drohenden Anschlag hatte die deutschen Sicherheitsbehörden kurz vor Silvester aus den USA erreicht: Nach Erkenntnissen der Amerikaner beschaffte sich jemand von Deutschland aus Informationen, wie man einen Anschlag mit Giftstoffen verüben kann. Nach einem weiteren Hinweis gelang es den deutschen Ermittlern, die Person als den 32-jährigen Iraner in Castrop-Rauxel zu identifizieren.
