Gaza death toll tops 10,000; UN calls it a children‘s graveyard

(06.11.2023)

A Reuters journalist in Gaza said Israel‘s overnight bombardment by air, ground and sea was one of its most intense since the Oct. 7 attack in which Hamas killed 1,400 people in Israel and seized more than 240 hostages.

The health ministry in the Hamas-controlled enclave said at least 10,022 people in Gaza have since been killed, including 4,104 children.

Netanyahu to ABC‘s Muir: ‚No cease-fire‘ without release of hostages

(06.11.2023)

„Well, there‘ll be no cease-fire, general cease-fire, in Gaza without the release of our hostages,“ Netanyahu responded. „As far as tactical little pauses, an hour here, an hour there. We‘ve had them before, I suppose, will check the circumstances in order to enable goods, humanitarian goods to come in, or our hostages, individual hostages to leave. But I don‘t think there‘s going to be a general cease-fire.“

SA recalls diplomats in Tel Aviv over ‘untenable’ situation with Israeli ambassador

Ntshavheni said the position of Israel’s ambassador to South Africa, Eliav Belotserkovsky, “is becoming very untenable”, after Cabinet noted his continued “disparaging remarks… about those who are opposing the atrocities and the genocide of the Israeli government”.

“This is despite the condemnation of the previous ambassadors of Israel to South Africa, who were clear that the acts of the Israeli government are a repeat of apartheid and no different to the apartheid antics,” she said.

Just before the October 7th event, Israelis were filling the streets in protest against Netanyahu, almost to the point of forming a coup against him. His political career was coming to an end. And then? ‚Hamas‘, his lifeboat, his ticket to slaughter Palestinians. What timing.

How Netanyahu‘s Hamas policy came back to haunt him — and Israel

(Oct 28, 2023)

This symbiotic relationship between Netanyahu and Hamas has been remarked on for years, by both friends and enemies, hawks and doves.

Yuval Diskin, former head of Israel‘s Shin Bet security service, told the daily newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth in 2013 that „if we look at it over the years, one of the main people contributing to Hamas‘s strengthening has been Bibi Netanyahu, since his first term as prime minister.“

In August 2019, former prime minister Ehud Barak told Israeli Army Radio that Netanyahu‘s „strategy is to keep Hamas alive and kicking … even at the price of abandoning the citizens [of the south] … in order to weaken the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah.“

With Netanyahu‘s Coup in Full Swing, His Trial Is Stuttering. Not by Accident

(05.03.2023)

The trial and the coup are now simultaneously underway, but while the first is lumbering along, the second is galloping forward. The hearings in the Jerusalem District Court will resume only after Passover. Until the judges return from their hiatus, the wings of the High Court of Justice might be clipped, the Judicial Appointments Committee might be under full control of the politicians, or Israel might be in the throes of a historic constitutional crisis.

Mendelblit, Don’t Delay

(14.02.2018)

The police announcement Tuesday – that the investigations into two cases involving Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had been completed – came 13 months after Attorney General Avichai Mendelblit decided that a “preliminary examination” of the allegations, which itself took six months, should become full-fledged criminal investigations.

I had the opportunity to communicate with some members of my family. The situation is unbelievable. Hungry dogs are eating the remains of bodies buried under the rubble in Gaza City. The smell of decay pervades the city. There will be catastrophic health consequences. Food and clean water are scarce…

…One of my nieces was taken to the hospital because of lack of food two days ago. People are beginning to experience starvation in its most literal sense. They spend 7 hours in line to receive a single piece of bread for each member of the family. When food is found, it‘s exorbitantly expensive. If this continues before our very eyes, it will turn into a horrendous BLACK MOMENT IN HUMAN HISTORY.

The Israel we knew died on October 7. The new nation will be scarred for generations

What it will come to look like is something we cannot imagine yet. But of one thing there is no doubt: the trauma of the Black Shabbat will leave the deepest of scars in the soul of this new nation. For decades, it will shape Israel’s character, its politics, the relations between its people, between its people and its enemies, between its people and the antisemites and Israel-hating Nazis around the world.

Netanyahu floats plan to control Gaza security ‚indefinitely‘ after Hamas war

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has floated a plan in which Israel would control Gaza‘s security for an „indefinite period“ following Israel‘s war on Hamas on Tuesday. President Biden has previously stated that an Israeli occupation of Gaza would be a „mistake,“ though Netanyahu‘s exact plan is unclear.

Fears of another Palestinian exodus reverberate across the Middle East

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said last week that a transfer of Palestinians from Gaza would likely be followed by a similar “expulsion of Palestinians from the West Bank to Jordan.” Jordan’s foreign minister later said such a move would be considered a declaration of “war.”

Commentators on Arab media outlets have warned that Israel may be planning to de-populate the Gaza Strip of Palestinians and even re-occupy it.

Black September

Black September (Arabic: أيلول الأسود Aylūl al-ʾAswad), also known as the Jordanian Civil War,[9] was an armed conflict between Jordan, led by King Hussein, and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), led by chairman Yasser Arafat. The main phase of the fighting took place between 16 and 27 September 1970, though certain aspects of the conflict continued until 17 July 1971.

After the 1967 Six-Day War, Palestinian fedayeen guerrillas relocated to Jordan and stepped up their attacks on Israel and the occupied territories. They were headquartered at the Jordanian border town of Karameh, which Israel targeted during a battle in 1968, leading to a surge of Arab support for the fedayeen. The PLO‘s strength grew, and by early 1970, groups within the PLO began calling for the overthrow of Jordan‘s Hashemite monarchy, leading to violent clashes in June 1970.

Displacing Palestinians from West Bank is ‚red line‘, declaration of war: Jordan FM

Such efforts by Israel „is a red line for Jordan, as we will confront it with all our capabilities because it is a violation of international law,“ Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi said during an emergency parliamentary session on Gaza.

He added that displacing people from one occupied territory to another would be a war crime, in reference to Palestinians in both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and thus „a declaration of war“ by Amman, which established ties with Israel in 1994.

Jordan will consider expulsion of Palestinians from Gaza as declaration of war: Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh

Any attempt to remove Palestinians from the Gaza Strip or the West Bank is a red line for Jordan. This was announced by the Prime Minister of the Kingdom, Bisher Khasawneh, Al Mamlaka TV reported.

„The Jordanian government will consider the expulsion of Palestinians from their territories as a declaration of war against them. All options for responding to the escalation of Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip are on the table,“ he emphasized.
