Always a delight to meet President Xi Jinping. Our talks were fruitful and will add vigour to the ties between India and China.
Why IS the President publicly denying his mysterious bodyguard is his lover? GUY ADAMS on the sacked heavy who rose out from France‘s gritty suburbs to become Macron‘s right-hand man
Though virtually unknown to the public, it swiftly emerged that Benalla had, over the past 18 months, become a key figure in the married President’s public and private life.
His background was certainly unusual: raised in a gritty suburb of Evreux in Normandy, he became an activist for the Left-wing Socialist Party as a teenager, eventually becoming friendly with its security director Eric Plumer, who helped him get employment with party officials, including former President Francois Hollande.
MERK TO THE RESCUE: Theresa May offered Brexit lifeline by Angela Merkel who insists EU leaders give PM ‘one last chance’ to sell Chequers plan to them
The Times is reporting that the German Chancellor Ms Merkel is frustrated the talks are not leading to a breakthrough, and is taking matters into her own hands.
She is said to have suggested they use the summit scheduled in Austria for the PM to hold direct talks to avert a no-deal Brexit.
Zwei Wege – Eine Katastrophe

Steve Bannon Tells Haaretz Why the Russians Aren‘t the Bad Guys and Why He Can‘t Be an anti-Semite
Bannon seems to have discovered something that for members of the American intelligentsia is not only strange, but practically incomprehensible: Racism is not an issue that interests the majority of Americans. The economy, not racism, was the issue of the election. What truly interests Americans is not the Mexicanness of illegal migrants, but the illegality of so much Mexican migration. “The Democrats,” Bannon told an infuriated Robert Kuttner at The American Prospect a few days before he was sacked from the White House, “the longer they talk about identity politics, I got ’em. I want them to talk about racism every day. If the left is focused on race and identity, and we go with economic nationalism, we can crush the Democrats.”
„The left is in total meltdown,“ Steve Bannon tells Haaretz. „And this is just the beginning.“

Trump: „Don‘t Believe The Crap You See From These People On Fake News“
„I mean, I saw a piece on NBC today. NBC — not just CNN. CNN is the worst. But I saw a piece on NBC; it was heart-throbbing. They were interviewing people — they probably go through 20, and then they pick the one that sounds like the worst. But they went through a group of people. In fact, I wanted to say, “I got to do something about this Trump.”
Terrible.
And that piece was done by the lobbyists and by the people that they hire. It was a total setup.“
The military does not belong to Donald Trump
Trump has now taken it a step further with what some say is an Orwellian declaration: „What you‘re seeing and what you‘re reading is not what‘s happening.“ But troops don‘t have the luxury of serving only the parts of the nation‘s fabric they agree with. They serve the nation. Despite Trump‘s tendency to talk about the military as „his'“ and „my generals,“ nothing could be further from the truth. The US military is and must stay apolitical. It is not Trump‘s.

I don‘t like the term „lamestream media“, but it‘s outrageous that @BreitbartNews is only outlet to pick up on i24news scoop about the Obama admin giving US aid money to an Al Qaeda affiliate in Sudan. Fellow journos: Sometimes the truth is inconvenient.
Exclusive: Obama Administration Knowingly Funded a Designated Al-Qaeda Affiliate
The Middle East Forum has discovered that the Obama administration approved a grant of $200,000 of taxpayer money to an al-Qaeda affiliate in Sudan — a decade after the U.S. Treasury designated it as a terrorist-financing organization. More stunningly, government officials specifically authorized the release of at least $115,000 of this grant even after learning that it was a designated terror organization.
Thank you to @meforum/@greggroman for the excellent work that went into this joint investigation and scoop.

Initial data from nine countries – Ghana, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Mali, Zambia, and Zimbabwe – show that on average, one-third of respondents have considered emigrating, including 16% who have given it “a lot” of thought (see Figure 1). The proclivity to emigrate is highest in Malawi (where 28% say they have thought “a lot” about leaving), Zimbabwe (22%), Benin (20%), and Ghana (20%). It is lowest in Mali, where eight in 10 respondents (80%) say they have not considered emigrating at all.
