Four hunger strikers continue as two pause after 49 days on hunger strike amidst legal preceding against Lammy

A spokesperson for Prisoners for Palestine said:

“The remaining four will continue to refuse food on the basis of the five demands, as well as specifying their demands to include the end of all non association orders between prisoners; Heba’s transfer back to HMP Bronzefield; and the same access to all courses and activities as sentenced prisoners. Non association orders are used to further isolate prisoners from each other despite being in the same prison; just as Heba has been moved across the country, away from her family and friends in London. Due to the extended period of time on remand, well over the usual six month legal limit, it is only fair that the prisoners are able to access the same activities as everyone else”

Security Council remains divided over Iran nuclear programme, sanctions stay in place

Russia’s delegate, Permanent Representative Vassily Nebenzia, took aim at the Slovenian presidency of the Council, regretting that they did not „find the courage to impartially uphold your obligation not to act at the behest of those who insisted on holding a Security Council meeting on a non-existent agenda item“.

“The JCPOA Committee does not exist anymore,” he added. “Therefore, the EU is not the coordinator anymore and therefore should not be allowed to brief the UN Security Council“.

Speaking for Iran, Ambassador Amir-Saeid Iravani insisted that Resolution 2231 (2015) expired on 18 October 2025, and thus “ceased to have any legal effect or operative mandate“. He concluded that there is “no mandate for the Secretary-General to submit any report and no mandate for the Council to hold discussions on it”.

Today, he said, the Council is witnessing “a calculated distortion“ of the resolution and the “deliberate dissemination of disinformation” about Iran’s nuclear programme.

Security Council Debates United States–Venezuela Standoff, as Calls Mount for Restraint

Yet, while Chile does not recognize the legitimacy of the Maduro regime, that country’s representative rejected any armed activity that could risk regional peace and stability. She also underlined the imperative of respecting international law, which, Brazil’s representative observed, includes the UN Charter’s prohibition against the threat or use of force. The United States’ activities are generating tensions in a region characterized by “stability and peaceful coexistence”, added Colombia’s representative, warning that military escalation not only heightens the risk of a broader conflict but also undermines collective efforts to prevent conflict and promote regional stability.

“History demonstrates that the threat or the use of force invariably leads to greater human suffering and the erosion of the international legal order,” observed Mexico’s representative. He underscored that, regardless of the country or region involved, “dialogue and negotiation are the only legitimate and effective ways of resolving — in the long run — existing differences”. Urging all parties to act with restraint, he added: “It is exclusively up to the Venezuelan people to determine [their country’s] political future.”

In major loss for Trump, Supreme Court blocks National Guard deployment to Chicago

“At this preliminary stage, the government has failed to identify a source of authority that would allow the military to execute the laws in Illinois,” the court said in its unsigned order.

The decision, which came over dissents from conservative Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas and Neil Gorsuch, was a substantial setback and appeared almost certain to jeopardize deployments of the National Guard in other cities as well.
