Civil liberties advocates sounded the alarm Friday after reporting indicated Customs and Border Protection has been flying an unmanned Predator drone over Minneapolis as the city continues to roil with protest over the police killing of George Floyd earlier this week

The drone flown over Minneapolis is an unarmed version of the aircraft.
The drone was first spotted on a flight tracking tool by members of the ADB-S Exchange, a community of flight watchers who use open-source flight data to monitor America‘s skies. Presumably, the drone is surveilling protests there, though CBP did not respond to a request for comment about what the drone is doing there.

Minneapolis – Polizist im Fall George Floyd verhaftet
Die vier an dem Einsatz beteiligten Polizisten wurden entlassen. Sie wurden zunächst aber weder festgenommen noch angeklagt, was zu wütenden Protesten führte. Minnesotas Gouverneur Tim Walz sicherte am Freitag bei einer emotionalen Pressekonferenz zu, dass die Justiz das Vorgehen der Beteiligten schnell untersuchen werde.
Der Gouverneur teilte das Entsetzen über den Vorfall. „Das Kapitel, das diese Woche geschrieben wurde, ist eines unserer dunkelsten Kapitel“, sagte er.

Der Friedensforscher Andreas Buro vom Komitee für Grundrechte und Demokratie geht davon aus, dass es bei der militärischen Intervention in Mali nicht nur um den Kampf gegen Islamisten geht. Es handelt sich in seinen Augen auch nicht um ein kurzlebiges Ereignis, sondern der Krieg um Mali soll nach dem Willen der westlichen Führungsmächte eine EU-europäische Angelegenheit werden, Mali sowie die ganze Sahelzone soll zur Einflusssphäre der EU werden.
Damit einher geht für Andreas Buro eine zukünftige Aufgabenteilung des Westens. Die USA werden sich mehr dem Pazifik zuwenden und die EU soll Afrika übernehmen.

His phrase „when the looting starts, the shooting starts,“ mirrors language used by a Miami police chief in the late 1960s in the wake of riots.

The Minneapolis police officer who knelt on George Floyd‘s neck had 18 previous complaints against him, police department says
The former Minneapolis police officer seen in a video with his knee on George Floyd‘s neck had 18 prior complaints filed against him with the Minneapolis Police Department‘s Internal Affairs, according to the police department.
It‘s unclear what the internal affairs complaints against the officer, Derek Chauvin, were for. MPD did not provide additional details.

Taylor was shot at least eight times in March when three officers entered her Kentucky apartment by force to serve a search warrant in a narcotics investigation. The department said the officers announced themselves and returned Walker‘s gunfire.

The warrant, signed by Jefferson Circuit Judge Mary Shaw the day before police entered the home after midnight, had a „no-knock“ provision, meaning that police could enter Taylor‘s house without first identifying themselves as law enforcement.
Police can seek a „no-knock“ entry if there is a reasonable suspicion that knocking would be dangerous, futile or inhibit the „effective investigation of the crime,“ LMPD‘s policies state.
In this case, police have said it was necessary because „these drug traffickers have a history of attempting to destroy evidence, have cameras on the location that compromise detectives once an approach to the dwelling is made, and have a history of fleeing from law enforcement.“

Louisville police officers fatally shot Breonna Taylor, 26, after midnight on March 13 at her home during a narcotics investigation. Officers knocked on the door several times and announced their presence, before forcing their way into the home, the Louisville police said. They were immediately met by gunfire, and Ms. Taylor’s boyfriend shot an officer in the leg, the police said.
I urge protesters, as Breonna Taylor’s family said tonight, to say her name. But let’s not see anyone else get hurt. Let’s work together for peace, justice & for Breonna & all of Louisville.

They appeared to fire rubber bullets and deploy tear gas canisters, fogging the air and inducing coughs among the remaining members of the crowd.
