EU production data to the end of August showed a 3.9% drop to 6.5 million pigs.
At the member-state level, national figures showed that German production was back 11%. Danish sow numbers have fallen 3% this year and sit at a 20-year low (11 million), while Dutch farmers are being paid to sell up to help meet national ammonia and nitrate targets.

Die vom ihm nun platzierte Forderung ist mehr als nur ein indirektes Eingeständnis, dass, zumindest nach seinem Verständnis, die Bundesrepublik sich bereits im Krieg mit Russland befindet.

No one knows the program‘s total size, and the explosion of signature reduction has never been examined for its impact on military policies and culture. Congress has never held a hearing on the subject. And yet the military developing this gigantic clandestine force challenges U.S. laws, the Geneva Conventions, the code of military conduct and basic accountability.
This quarterly threat report includes our findings about three networks we took down in the United States, China and Russia. The latter two we originally reported on September 27, 2022.
The US network — linked to individuals associated with the US military — operated across many internet services and focused on Afghanistan, Algeria, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Somalia, Syria, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Yemen.
It marks a rare instance of the Silicon Valley-based company tying an influence campaign to the U.S. rather than a foreign nation.
Meta said that the people behind the operation “attempted to conceal their identities,” but the company’s investigation “found links to individuals associated with the US military.”
