Housing is infrastructure. Child care is infrastructure. Paid leave is infrastructure. The people gave us a mandate & we’re holding the line. We must advance the #BuildBackBetterAct to address the needs of the people before we move the narrow roads and bridges bill.
Nina‘s unfortunate loss is further proof that working with the Democrats is a dead end road for folks seeking to challenge the status quo. Democrats will spend millions of dollars (at a time like this!) and pull out all the stops to undermine candidates fighting for the people.
Bernie Sanders kickoff rally in Brooklyn – Nina Turner‘s great speech!

Nina Turner gave another unbelievable emotional speech for Bernie Sanders! Preach on!
JUST IN: Nina Turner Vows To Continue Progressive Journey After Losing Ohio Congressional Primary
Nina Turner gives a passionate election night speech following her loss in the special Congressional primary in Ohio‘s 11th District.
For those upset about critique of establishment politics: There are D reps in SAFE blue seats who side w/ the NRA, are anti-LGBT+, and yet are protected because they advance the interests of big donors, Wall St, fossil fuels, etc. It’s not “wrong” to take that on and do better.
This isn’t about swing seats or pushing communities “too far left.”
It’s about accountability. Working families deserve so much better. And if we aren’t willing to admit where we can do better, then what is the point?
Our job is to serve the people, not the powerful.
I’m Indigenous, Latinx, a chemist, a researcher, a mom, I’ve got an MS and a PhD, I’m an elected in Texas, but more importantly… I’m a #Bernie2020 endorser and supporter
A better world is possible and it’s up to us to make it happen. Let’s do this together. All of us. #NotMeUs

(29.01.2020)

AOC and Squad’s People’s Housing Platform: Tenant rights, tax credits, and more
(29.01.2020)
According a public poll commissioned commissioned by the National Low-Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) last fall, 85 percent of Americans believe that ensuring everyone has a safe, decent, affordable place to live should be a “top national priority,” and 8 in 10 people in America believe that Congress should “take major action” to make housing more affordable for low-income people.
My family relied on food stamps (EBT) when my dad died at 48. I was a student. If this happened then, we might’ve just starved. Now, many people will. It’s shameful how the GOP works overtime to create freebies for the rich while dissolving lifelines of those who need it most.
No one in the wealthiest county in the world should be forced to sleep on the streets. Today I am introducing the Homes for All Act, a bold 21st century vision to build 12 million new public & affordable housing units and guarantee housing as a human right. #HomesforAll
INTERESTING meeting today in Burlington, VT: @BernieSanders sat down with @AOC. The two were spotted at a diner in town and AOC’s team confirms they met. No word on what they discussed….

‘The Squad’ Is the Future of the Democratic Party
The squad has tilled new ground in reanimating a fighting spirit within the Democratic Party and revived its left flank. A more timid approach would have been to go to Washington and blend in. The women’s approach is admirably and courageously to stand out.
‘Many people know that I was working in a restaurant when I got elected, but they don’t know why.’ — Rep. @AOC opened up about her family’s struggle and her father‘s battle with lung cancer in a hearing on affordable health care
.@AOC proudly recalled watching her mom clean houses as a kid as she announced support for a domestic workers‘ bill of rights
My mom was a domestic worker – she cleaned houses to support our family. As a little girl, I grew up reading books on other people’s staircases. I did homework on other people’s dinner tables. Today, as a Congresswoman, I’m proud to cosponsor the Domestic Worker Bill of Rights.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on the 2020 Presidential Race and Why We Should Break Up Homeland Security
It‘s hard to recall a newly elected freshman representative to Congress who has made a bigger impact than Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Her primary victory for New York‘s Fourteenth District seat—as a young woman of color beating out a long-established white male incumbent—was big news, and Ocasio-Cortez has been generating headlines almost daily ever since. Practically the day she took her seat in Congress, Ocasio-Cortez became the hero of the left wing of the Democrats and a favored villain of Fox News and the right.
Ocasio-Cortez wants to ax Homeland Security. Some conservatives didn’t want it to begin with.
The usefulness of a Department of Homeland Security, however, wasn’t always taken for granted. President George W. Bush’s administration initially had “zero interest” in creating a new department to protect against terrorism, The Washington Post previously reported. Vice President Richard B. Cheney thought it would needlessly increase the size of government.
“Creating a Cabinet post doesn’t solve the problem,” White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said in March 2002, according to The Post.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Wants to Dismantle Department of Homeland Security
In an interview with “The New Yorker Radio Hour,” Ocasio-Cortez repeated her call for the abolition of ICE—Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Host David Remnick asked Ocasio-Cortez if she would get rid of the Department of Homeland Security, as well.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: “I think so. I think so. I think we need to undo a lot of the egregious mistakes that the Bush administration did.
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: „I believe these women.“ (C-SPAN)
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: „When these women tell me that they were put into a cell and that their sink was not working, and we tested the sink ourselves and the sink was not working, and they were told to drink out of a toilet bowl I believe them. I believe these women.“
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Testifies on Child Separation, Blasts Republicans | NBC New York
The hearing came as the number of families, children and other migrants entering the U.S. from Mexico has surged above 100,000 monthly since March, overwhelming federal agencies‘ ability to detain them in sanitary conditions and highlighting the issue as the 2020 presidential and congressional campaigns are in their early stages. „This is a manufactured crisis because the cruelty is manufactured. This is a manufactured crisis because there is no need for us to do this. There‘s no need for us to overcrowd and to detain and under-resource,“ said Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., one of four high-profile Democratic freshmen who testified.
After I forced myself into a cell w/ women&began speaking to them, one of them described their treatment at the hands of officers as “psychological warfare” – waking them at odd hours for no reason, calling them wh*res, etc. Tell me what about that is due to a “lack of funding?”

Just left the 1st CBP facility. I see why CBP officers were being so physically &sexually threatening towards me. Officers were keeping women in cells w/ no water & had told them to drink out of the toilets. This was them on their GOOD behavior in front of members of Congress.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Explains Socialism During Instagram Live Stream: ‚It Does Not Mean Government Owns Everything‘
You can have free market economies with democratic socialist businesses. What on earth is a democratic socialist business? A perfect example of that is worker cooperatives…which means that…workers own the shares of the company,“ Ocasio-Cortez said.
„So a more ‚democratically socialist‘ business would have workers on the board of the corporation instead of billionaires on the boards of corporations. So it‘s really about democracy in the economy.
Bernie Sanders backs 2 policies to dramatically shift corporate power to U.S. workers
Sanders said his campaign is working on a plan to require large businesses to regularly contribute a portion of their stocks to a fund controlled by employees, which would pay out a regular dividend to the workers. Some models of this fund increase employees’ ownership stake in the company, making the workers a powerful voting shareholder. The idea is in its formative stages and a spokesman did not share further details.
Sanders also said he will introduce a plan to force corporations to give workers a share of the seats on their boards of directors.
Credit card interest rates are outrageously high. With @RepAOC, we are introducing legislation to challenge the greed of Wall Street and protect consumers across America.
Sanders, Ocasio-Cortez Propose 15% Cap on Credit Card Interest
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez accused banks of acting as “modern-day loan sharks” and called on Congress to enact a federal limit of 15% on credit card interest rates.
The two self-identified democratic-socialists are set to propose legislation on Thursday capping rates on credit card and other consumer loans and letting post offices offer low-cost basic financial services, such as loans and checking and savings accounts.
As much as the right wants to distort & deflect, I am from the Bronx. I act & talk like it, *especially* when I’m fired up and especially when I’m home. It is so hurtful to see how every aspect of my life is weaponized against me, yet somehow asserted as false at the same time.

JP Morgan agreed to pay out *$13 billion* over its massive role in mortgage schemes w the ‘08 recession. They also finance major fossil fuel pipelines. It’s big money? So maybe they *aren’t* the best authority on prioritizing economic wellbeing of everyday people & the planet.
“The idea that our biggest obstacle is political will should be the most embarrassing thing for us right now.” — @AOC at #SXSW #tictocnews
Ocasio-Cortez Blasts Capitalism as an ‘Irredeemable’ System
Instead of conservative politicians scaring people that socialism means the government is going to take over their business, “we should be scared right now because corporations have taken over our government,” she said.
Ocasio-Cortez: State Of America Is ‚Garbage,‘ Reagan Pitted Whites Against Minorities
„It‘s just that now we‘ve strayed so far away from what has really made us powerful, and just, and good, and equitable, and productive, and so I think all of these things sound radical compared to where we are but where we are is not a good thing,“ Ocasio-Cortez continued. „And this idea of like 10% better from garbage, is, shouldn‘t be what we settle for, it‘s like this like it feels like moderate is not a stance it‘s just an attitude toward life of like hmmm.“
Ocasio-Cortez outdraws presidential candidates, decries moderates as ‚meh‘
At South by Southwest, the 29-year-old freshman congresswoman drew bigger crowds than any of the half-dozen presidential candidates who came to Austin, too.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Defends Ilhan Omar, Asks Where Resolutions Are Condemning Homophobia, Racism, Xenophobia
(5.3.2019) Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has come to the defense of fellow freshman congresswoman Ilhan Omar, who is facing backlash for her comments about Israel—many of which have been deemed anti-Semitic by Republicans and Democrats alike.
I think that our decision to enter unlimited engagement in Afghanistan, particularly through the AUMF + Congress’ abdication of power + decision-making w/ passage of the AUMF, was a mistake. Other options: targeting the network itself, limited engagement, non-intervention.
Tapper presses Ocasio-Cortez on Afghan War, AUMF stance: ‚What would you have supported?‘
CNN anchor Jake Tapper on Tuesday asked Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) what she thinks “the U.S. should have done post-9/11 regarding Afghanistan” after the freshman congresswoman said that both the GOP and Democrats led her generation “into a disastrous“ and „wrong war” and called for an end to the Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF).
