New Gaza Aid Plan, Bypassing U.N. and Billed as Neutral, Originated in Israel

The New York Times found that the broad contours of the plan were first discussed in late 2023, at private meetings of like-minded officials, military officers and business people with close ties to the Israeli government.

The group called itself the Mikveh Yisrael Forum, after a college where members convened in December 2023. Its leading figures gradually settled on the idea of hiring private contractors to distribute food in Gaza, circumventing the United Nations.

Sweeping overhaul of Gaza aid raises questions of morality and workability

The planning documents anticipated public skepticism and preemptively prepared talking points in case the GHF encountered allegations likening its food distribution hubs and residential compounds to “‘concentration camps’ with biometrics” or comparing the organization to Blackwater, a former U.S. mercenary firm implicated in violence against civilians in Iraq.

In mid-2024, Israeli officials shared their plans with a group of private-sector American consultants led by Phil Reilly, a retired CIA paramilitary officer and former agency station chief in Afghanistan. Reilly’s group, said five of the Israeli and American individuals, took over the planning and determined that a new company led by Reilly, named Safe Reach Solutions, would be the future subcontractor that would provide security and logistics for the hubs.

LIVE: 5 killed in Israeli attack on Palestinians near aid truck in Gaza

At least five Palestinians killed, 50 wounded by an Israeli attack that targeted people gathering around a truck carrying flour in southern Gaza.
Witnesses to Israel’s bombing of a family home in Gaza’s Jabalia refugee camp that left some 50 people dead or missing told Al Jazeera that “the Israeli military is killing civilians for fun”.

Only 92 aid trucks entered Gaza, says Palestinian official

The director of medical relief in Gaza says only 92 aid trucks have entered the Strip in three days.

He added that the healthcare, water, and food situation in Gaza is very difficult, and no food or medical aid has reached northern Gaza.

Severe hunger grips northern Gaza amid aid blockade and bakery closures

(May 23, 2025)

In Gaza city’s Al Jalaa neighbourhood, Mohammed Al Mahlawi, a father of five, described the growing desperation.

“We keep hearing that bakeries are operating in the south and flour is being distributed. But here in the north, we see none of it. There is no bread, no aid and no indication that the crisis is nearing an end,” he told The National.

“The world is watching us starve – men, women, and children – and does nothing.

All eyes on Gaza as aid teams retrieve first lifesaving relief in months

According to the UN World Health Organization (WHO) at least 57 children have reportedly died from the effects of malnutrition, according to the local health authorities. The number is likely an underestimate and is expected to increase if the aid blockade continues.

In their latest report, respected and UN-partnered food insecurity experts warned that nearly 71 000 children under the age of five are expected to be acutely malnourished over the next 11 months unless Gazans can access sufficient food and healthcare support.

Some flour reaches Gaza as blockade eases, aid groups call for more

(May 22, 20255:20 PM GMT+2Updated 39 min ago)

Flour and other aid started reaching some of Gaza‘s most vulnerable areas on Thursday after Israel let some trucks through, but nowhere near enough to make up for shortages caused by an 11-week blockade, Palestinian officials said.
Many other trucks were still at the border, and people were still waiting to receive food, amid fears that desperate crowds would try to loot the vehicles when they arrived, the Palestinian Red Crescent warned.

Fresh Bread Returns to Gaza for the First Time in Over Two Months as Limited Supplies Reach Bakeries Overnight

Published May 22, 2025

GAZA – A handful of bakeries in south and central Gaza, supported by the World Food Programme (WFP), have resumed bread production after dozens of trucks were finally able to collect cargo from the Kerem Shalom border crossing and deliver it overnight.

These bakeries are now operational distributing bread via hot meal kitchens. However, after nearly 80 days of a total blockade of humanitarian assistance, families still face a high risk of famine and far more aid is needed across all of Gaza.

Airstrike on ‘Conscience’ Confirmed; Crew Evacuated; FFC Still Denied Investigation

The bombing of a civilian vessel in European territory, without international condemnation or serious inquiry, underscores a broader pattern: Israel’s escalating violence against civilians is met with silence and complicity from the international community. The attack on the Conscience is not an isolated incident, but part of a decades-long pattern of impunity—now extending far beyond Gaza’s borders. As we prepare to launch our next action with the yacht Madleen, we do so with the sobering knowledge that, in a world unwilling to restrain Israeli aggression, our civilian vessels remain vulnerable. Yet we also move forward with renewed determination—because Palestinians in Gaza still call, and the world must respond.

Pope Leo XIV appeals for Gaza: ‚Allow aid to enter, end the hostilities‘

„I renew my appeal to allow the entry of dignified humanitarian aid and to put an end to the hostilities, whose heartbreaking price is paid by the children, elderly, and the sick.“

Pope Leo XIV made that appeal toward the conclusion of his first General Audience in St. Peter‘s Square on 21 May.

In his remarks to Italian pilgrims, he said, „The situation in the Gaza Strip is increasingly worrying and painful.“

Unified Call to Confront Famine in Gaza: Launch the Diplomatic Humanitarian Convoy Now

(May 19, 2025)

Palestinian civil society, joined by humanitarian and human rights organizations worldwide, issues this urgent and unified call: The manufactured famine in Gaza must be halted. The international community must act decisively, immediately, and with full moral and legal responsibility.

We are witnessing, in real time, the deliberate starvation of a civilian population as a method of warfare. Over two million Palestinians in Gaza are living in famine. Since March 2, 2025, Israel has blocked all humanitarian supplies and life-saving assistance – constituting the longest total siege Gaza has ever experienced.

Freedom Flotilla Refuses Silence After Attack: ‘Madleen’ Will Sail for Gaza

MALTA | May 15, 2025 – In the face of state terrorism, media silence, and mounting global complicity, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) today announces that its mission to break the illegal Israeli blockade of Gaza will move forward, undeterred. We are preparing our next vessel, Madleen, named in 2014 after Gaza’s only fisherwoman at the time; a symbol of resistance and resilience, to sail in May to Gaza, carrying our solidarity with Palestinians and our cargo of hope.

Italian MPs protest at Egypt‘s Gaza border against war

„Europe is not doing enough, nothing to stop the massacre,“ Cecilia Strada, an Italian member of the European parliament, told AFP.

The group — including 11 members of the Italian parliament, three MEPs and representatives of NGOs — held signs reading „Stop genocide now“, „End illegal occupation“ and „Stop arming Israel“.

„There should be a complete embargo on weapons to and from Israel and a stop to trade with illegal settlements,“ Strada said.

LIVE: Italian Activists Gear Up to Deliver Aid Through Rafah Crossing into Gaza

Members of the Italian Parliament, EU representatives, activists, and journalists protested at Egypt’s Rafah border on May 18, condemning the war and Israel’s blockade of aid to Gaza. Holding a banner demanding an end to complicity, they called on Italian and European leaders to pressure Israel to allow humanitarian aid into the besieged territory. The group, including former Italian Lower House speaker Laura Boldrini, warned that silence equals complicity and expressed readiness to escort aid into Gaza. Meanwhile, Italy’s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani urged Israel to halt its military offensive to spare Palestinian civilians from further suffering.

Exclusive: Jordan profited up to $400,000 per Gaza aid airdrop, sources say

(May 8, 2025)

Sources say the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO), an official body overseeing humanitarian aid into Gaza, has coordinated with Israeli authorities to act as the sole conduit for aid passing through Jordan.

MEE spoke with sources from international aid organisations and people with direct knowledge of the JHCO’s operations.

One source said much of the aid attributed to the JHCO in fact originates from foreign governments and NGOs, both Jordanian and international, while direct contributions from the Jordanian state are negligible.

Jordanian authorities have demanded $2,200 for every aid truck entering Gaza, according to two NGO sources and two others familiar with the scheme.

The fee, aid organisations were told by the JHCO, is paid directly to the Jordanian Armed Forces.

In addition, Jordan has charged between $200,000 and $400,000 per airdrop over Gaza, the sources said.

Aid vessel bound for Gaza attacked near Malta, Cyprus-based ship received SOS

Initial reports said Cyprus received an SOS distress signal and sent a ship to help extinguish a fire which had resulted on board.

The defence ministry in Cyprus clarified that the ship was aided by a Limassol-based vessel, sailing under a Liberian flag, which happened to be in the area and responded to the SOS as per international maritime requirements.

UPDATED | Freedom Flotilla Coalition says ship attacked by drone just outside Maltese territorial waters

The Maltese government has disputed claims that it did not offer assistance to the Conscience, insisting that a tugboat with firefighting equipment was on site within minutes.

In a statement on Friday morning, the government released a timeline of events, including a photo of the tugboat spraying water onto the humanitarian ship.

The Conscience, which has remained anchored just outside territorial waters, is being monitored by the authorities.

The timeline provided by the government being reproduced below contradicts the claim that the humanitarian vessel received no assistance:

00:20am (local time): Malta Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) received a Mayday call from the passenger vessel Conscience, reporting a fire on the bow while outside territorial waters. The vessel had 12 crew members on board and 4 civilian passengers; no casualties were reported. The crew confirmed the fire was not under control and requested immediate assistance.

00:21am: A nearby tug located approximately one nautical mile away contacted Malta VTS, confirmed it was equipped with firefighting capabilities and offered immediate support. The tug arrived on scene and began firefighting operations.

1:28am: The fire was reported under control. An Armed Forces of Malta patrol vessel was also dispatched to provide further assistance.

2:13am: All crew were confirmed safe but refused to board the tug. Assistance was provided to support interior firefighting efforts.

3:45am: The vessel and its crew were secure.

Gaza aid vessel ‚attacked by drones‘ just outside Malta waters

Times of Malta is informed that the fire was put out in the early hours on Friday, and an Armed Forces of Malta patrol boat was dispatched to the location of the vessel.

Hours after the fire was put out, Flotilla and activists supporting the campaign were still urging the Maltese authorities to rescue the people aboard.

However, the Maltese government told the media that the people on board had refused to board a tug vessel that had put out the fire following contact with the Malta Vessel Traffic Services.

Freedom Flotilla Attacked — Ship in Distress, Immediate Action Needed from Maltese Government

The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Rome advised that a tugboat has been sent out and is on the scene. Our communications with the vessel were destroyed in the attack and we are unable to confirm this. Under international maritime law and conventions Malta is obliged to act and ensure the safety of a civilian ship in distress within its proximity. The lack of response and information about the rescue efforts breaches international customary law.

Israeli drones hit Gaza aid flotilla in international waters off Malta, NGO says

„At 00:23 Maltese time, the Conscience, a Freedom Flotilla Coalition ship came under direct attack in international waters,“ the group said in a statement.

„Armed drones attacked the front of an unarmed civilian vessel twice, causing a fire and a substantial breach in the hull,“ it added, blaming Israel.

„Israeli ambassadors must be summoned and answer to violations of international law, including the ongoing blockade and the bombing of our civilian vessel in international waters.“

It’s been 50+ days since the start of a complete blockade on food & humanitarian relief to civilians in Gaza. Jose Andres is right: End the blockade & suffering. Release all the hostages. End the war. No more Oct 7ths. Security, dignity, human rights & self-determination for all.

Israeli Human Rights Organizations Demand Netanyahu Open Gaza’s Crossings

For nearly two months, Israel has deliberately and openly prevented the entry of any humanitarian aid including food, water, fuel, and medical equipment into the Gaza Strip. For more than a year, four Israeli human rights organizations, Gisha, Physicians for Human Rights, the Association for Civil Rights in Israel and HaMoked: Center for the Defense of the Individual have led a principled legal petition in the High Court, demanding that Israel meet its legal obligations under Israeli and international law to ensure unfettered and immediate aid access to the civilian population in the Gaza Strip.

While the petition was still under deliberation, Israel announced the closure of all crossings into Gaza imposing a complete blockade since March 2. The state did not even claim that this extreme measure was related to military needs but admitted that it was a “political security” decision.

On March 27, the High Court rejected the petition, displaying disregard for the implications of this latest state policy on the fragile humanitarian situation in Gaza. Nearly everything is scarce in the Strip: since March 18, Israel has bombarded continuously via land, air, and sea, causing thousands of deaths and injuries; issued displacement orders that forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee; and as mentioned above, blocked all entry of goods and equipment to the strip for nearly two months.

Last week, the human rights organizations sent an urgent request demanding the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Defense Minister Israel Katz, open Gaza’s crossings immediately and enable consistent and unfettered aid supply and access.

Israel’s Ben Gvir Says US Republicans Support His Plan To Bomb Food in Gaza

“I had the honor and privilege to meet with senior officials of the Republican Party at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate,” Ben Gvir wrote on X.

“They expressed support for my very clear position on how to act in Gaza and that the food and aid warehouses should be bombed in order to create military and political pressure to bring our hostages home safely,” the minister added.

Red Crescent massacre: Palestinians are betrayed in a world ruled by outlaws

The cold-blooded killing of 15 Red Crescent and civil defence first responders has elicited no condemnation from major powers. This is the age of lawlessness

(…)

Israeli anti-Zionist commentator Alon Mizrahi posted on X this week:

„As Israel and the US announce and begin to enact plans to ethnically cleanse Gaza of Palestinians, let‘s remember that the International Court of Justice has not even convened to discuss the genocide since 24 May 2024, when it was using very blurry language about the planned Rafah action….

At least 14 bodies have been recovered in southern Gaza, including the bodies of eight medics, a week after Israeli soldiers fired at ambulances.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies said the bodies were retrieved after „seven days of silence“ and of having access denied to the area of Rafah where they were last seen. Community kitchens in #Gaza have reportedly come under attack in the last 3 days. These are places serving the most basic life essential: food. „Attacks against people who are trying to feed the hungry are abhorrent.“ A ceasefire must be reinstated. Civilians must be protected.
