GAZA, June 22, 2025 (WAFA) – Medical sources said on Sunday that the death toll in the Gaza Strip has risen to 55,959, the majority of whom are children and women, since the start of the Israeli occupation‘s aggression on October 7, 2023.

The same sources added that the death toll has risen to 131,242 since the start of the aggression, while a number of victims remain under the rubble, unable to be reached by ambulance and civil defense crews.

Gaza: UN warns of ‘weaponised hunger’ and growing death toll amid food chaos

Speaking to journalists in Deir al Balah on Saturday, Jonathan Whittall, who heads the UN humanitarian coordination office (OCHA) in Gaza and the West Bank, said: “The attempt to survive is being met with a death sentence.”

Since Israel eased its total blockade last month, more than 400 people are reported to have died trying to reach food distribution points.

Mr. Whittall said humanitarian agencies are capable of reaching every family in the shattered enclave but are being systematically blocked. “We have a plan…but we are prevented from doing so at every turn.”

He described the situation as “weaponised hunger”, “forced displacement”, and “a death sentence for people just trying to survive”.

“This is carnage,” Mr. Whittall said. “It appears to be the erasure of Palestinian life from Gaza.”

He urged the international community to act: “We need a lasting ceasefire, accountability, and real pressure to stop this. This is the bare minimum.”

Trump administration was anticipating retaliation from Iran, White House official says

“We knew they’d retaliate. They had a similar response after Soleimani,” the official said, referring to Qasem Soleimani, the Iranian commander killed in a US airstrike in 2020.

The official said initial assessments were that the missiles fired by the Iranians on Monday didn’t hit their intended targets. Qatar’s Defense Ministry said its air defenses intercepted an Iranian missile attack on the US air base in the country.

Qatar intercepts Iranian missiles on Al Udeid Air Base, condemns “blatant aggression”

In turn, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the attack, calling it a “blatant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty, airspace, and international law.”

In a statement, the ministry said the missiles were launched by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and confirmed that Qatar‘s air defenses successfully intercepted them before they reached their target.

Qatar reserves the right to respond directly in a manner proportional to the scale and nature of this act of aggression,” the ministry said, warning that such attacks pose a direct threat to regional security.

Iran launches missiles towards US bases in Qatar and Iraq

Iran said it launched a „devastating and powerful“ missile attack at the US‘s Al-Udeid base in Qatar on Saturday in retaliation for the US‘s strikes on their nuclear facilities over the weekend.

Eyewitnesses reported to Middle East Eye blasts across Doha.

Video footage shared with MEE showed missiles flying above the gleaming skyscrapers and marina of the Qatari capital. In another video air defence systems appeared to be engaging the missiles.

Reaktor Garching darf mit hochangereichertem Uran weiterlaufen

(Juni 21, 2024)

Germany‘s Merz sees no reason to criticise Israeli, US attacks on Iran

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Monday that there was no reason for him to criticise attacks by Israel and the United States on Iran.
„There is no reason for us, or for me personally, to criticise what Israel started a week ago, nor is there any reason to criticise what America did last weekend,“ Merz said at an event organised by the BDI German industrial lobby group.

Israel-Iran war: After explosions boom Bushehr, Iran‘s only nuclear plant; Rosatom downplays attack – ‘site remains…’

Bushehr is Iran‘s only operating nuclear power plant and was built by Russia. Located on the Gulf Coast, at Bushehr, Russian fuel is used and then taken back to Russia when its spent in order to reduce nuclear proliferation risk, reported Reuters.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia has up to 600 staff at Bushehr, including 250 permanent workers and others on temporary assignment. He said Israel had issued a promise to Russia over their safety.

Israel fordert atomaren Angriff auf den Iran

(July 22, 2006)

„Washington Times“, 31.01.2003,

(…)

New Yorker, 08.04.2006 (Anm.: 17.
„Was wollt Ihr denn?

The Iran Plans

(April 9, 2006)

One of the military’s initial option plans, as presented to the White House by the Pentagon this winter, calls for the use of a bunker-buster tactical nuclear weapon, such as the B61-11, against underground nuclear sites. One target is Iran’s main centrifuge plant, at Natanz, nearly two hundred miles south of Tehran. Natanz, which is no longer under I.A.E.A. safeguards, reportedly has underground floor space to hold fifty thousand centrifuges, and laboratories and workspaces buried approximately seventy-five feet beneath the surface. (…)

The lack of reliable intelligence leaves military planners, given the goal of totally destroying the sites, little choice but to consider the use of tactical nuclear weapons. “Every other option, in the view of the nuclear weaponeers, would leave a gap,” the former senior intelligence official said. “ ‘Decisive’ is the key word of the Air Force’s planning. It’s a tough decision. But we made it in Japan.”

Alarm as White House Says Trump Has Not Ruled Out Dropping Nuclear Weapon on Iran

(June 19, 2025)

An unnamed Trump administration official told Fox News senior White House correspondent Jaqui Heinrich that „none of the options are off the table,“ denying a Guardian report that said the president was „not considering using a tactical nuclear weapon“ on Iran‘s heavily entrenched Fordow nuclear site.

Trump‘s reported consideration of a nuclear option comes amid internal concerns that the 30,000-pound bunker-buster bombs the U.S. possesses within striking distance of Iran would be insufficient to destroy Fordow.

US officially enters war, Iran vows: ‚You will pay‘

Iran and the U.S. were participating in indirect nuclear negotiations before the war broke out. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, speaking at an OIC meeting in Ankara, stated clearly that what the U.S. obliterated with its Sunday strikes – and earlier ones it helped Israel carry out – wasn‘t Iran‘s nuclear facilities, „but rather diplomacy.“ During the ongoing aerial campaign against Iran, at least 400 civilians have been killed and 2,000 injured according to the latest Health Ministry figures.
