Mass Walkout as ‚Global Pariah‘ Netanyahu Addresses UN General Assembly

Journalists and critics of the „global pariah“ shared photos and videos of people filing out of the hall before Netanyahu‘s address—which came just a day after 25 anti-genocide protesters were arrested for blocking his motorcade in Manhattan.

While there was some audience applause from the sparsely populated room on Friday, Al Jazeera Arabic‘s Rami Ayari explained that „the people you hear cheering the PM during the speech are in the gallery who he brought for that purpose.“

War on Lebanon: Israeli jets pound Beirut with series of massive air strikes

Israeli fighter jets launched a series of massive air strikes on a crowded area in the Haret Hreik neighbourhood in the south of Lebanon‘s Beirut on Friday, causing widespread destruction with fears of a large death toll.

At least 10 explosions rocked the capital‘s southern suburbs, a densely-populated area colloquially known as Dahiyeh, with large clouds of black smoke rising over the city.

The attacks appeared to be the largest Israeli strikes on Beirut since the 2006 war with Lebanon.

Iraqi Prime Minister Al-Sudani warns of global disorder, urges greater UN action in UNGA speech

The Prime Minister reiterated Iraq’s solidarity with Lebanon, stating that both the government and people of Iraq, guided by religious authority, stand with Lebanon against what he termed “aggression aimed at plunging the region into conflicts.” Al-Sudani also condemned the targeting of international and humanitarian organizations, including the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in Gaza.

He expressed concern over the broader global implications of the ongoing conflicts, warning that recent actions by Israel could „ignite a large-scale regional war“ and destabilize the entire region.

‘This is the moment for peace, progress, equality’: UK Prime Minister

While the Universal Declaration of Human Rights inspires him, from his student days to being a prime minister, because it speaks of equal rights and peace, he said that notion “could seem like a distant hope today” amid a landscape of war, poverty, climate change or pandemics.

“My message today is this: We are returning the UK to responsible global leadership because I think the international system can be better,” he said. “This is the moment to reassert fundamental principles…to recommit to the UN…to work together for peace, progress and equality.”

Outlining a path towards those goals, he first pointed to ongoing wars, expressing London’s support for Ukraine. Calling on Israel to “step back from the brink” to provide space for a diplomat settlement, he said an immediate ceasefire is needed in Gaza, where the suffering continues to grow. Diplomacy is the only way to break the cycle of violence, he said.

He also called for international protection for Palestinians in the occupied territories, stating, “we cannot fight Israel, and we don’t want to fight, we want protection,” he said, adding that the State of Palestine must assume responsibility in Gaza and exercise jurisdiction over the region, including control of border checkpoints.

“This is our proposal to you, you can accept it, amend it or change it, we are ready for all that.”

Concluding his address, Mr. Abbas said that “while we recognize the State of Israel, Israel does not recognize us”.

“We want a solution that will protect both countries – the State of Palestine and the State of Israel – so they can co-exist in peace, stability and security.”

Capitalism Is Driven By Mental Illness

You actually have to be mentally ill to achieve what this profoundly sick society of ours defines as “success”. Your head has to be full of a bunch of fantasies and fictional narratives which have no basis in material reality. You’ve got to have a hole in yourself that cannot be filled with any amount of wealth or power or private jets or private islands. That’s the only thing that can propel you to step on top of all the people you need to step on in order to become obscenely rich.

Can Netanyahu say just what he likes?

(October 25, 2015)

A political consultant once related how he lunched with Benjamin Netanyahu, who ordered a hamburger with fries. He was not supposed to be eating such foods – doctor’s orders. As they were finishing up, Bibi’s wife, Sarah, came in, saw the evidence and began to see red. Netanyahu, all righteous indignation, looked her straight in the eye and said he had eaten no such hamburger. The storyteller said he was convinced at that moment that Netanyahu himself believed it.

If apocryphal, it is definitely in character. Netanyahu regularly embraces bad ideas or even lies so totally that he convinces himself of their rightness. Others start to believe them too. His outlandish idea, uttered in a speech, was that Hitler would have been happy with just expelling Jews if a Palestinian, the then grand mufti of Jerusalem, had not suggested annihilation instead.

Israel’s initial dismissal of US’ ‘breakthrough’ Lebanon ceasefire deal creates confusion

Israel’s initial response was clearly not the reaction the White House had anticipated, and it raised immediate question of why, if Israel was on board with the proposal, its leader appeared so eager to dismiss it.

“We are shocked,” said one US official, underscoring deep frustration after they had hoped Israel would accept the proposal.

“Not a complete surprise, but also not helpful,” a second US official said.
