If past is precedent, we could see 1000s of Palestinians die, accompanied by overwhelming disturbing images of violence involving children & other innocents. A ground invasion of Gaza is on the cards, too, given the scale of this attack & impulses of Bibi‘s right-wing coalition.

A staggering intelligence failure. Hard to comprehend how this was missed. Expect a massive military response in Gaza, including possible ground invasion, and potential for further escalation. All eyes on Iran as well. Thoughts with friends in Israel.

‘A colossal failure’ as Gaza’s Hamas terrorists infiltrate, catch Israel unprepared

“All of Israel is asking itself: Where is the IDF, where is the police, where is the security?” agreed Eli Maron, the former head of the Israeli Navy, alongside him in the studio. “It’s a colossal failure; the hierarchies have simply failed, with vast consequences.”

Amos Yadlin, a former IDF intelligence chief, invoked echoes of the Yom Kippur War — another attack marked by “intelligence failure,” with the enemy initiating conflict.

OPEC+ panel holds oil policy steady as Saudi, Russia keep cuts

(October 4, 2023)

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, speaking on the Rossiya-24 news TV station, said the joint cuts by Saudi Arabia and Russia had helped to balance the global oil market. „We are also fulfilling our obligations in full,“ he said.

Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, who chairs the JMMC, last month said OPEC+ cuts were needed to stabilise the market, and prices were not being targeted.

According to the report, which cited Saudi and US officials, Riyadh has told the White House it would be willing to increase oil production if crude prices are high to help secure the deal.

Russia sees military coordination with Israel on Syria continuing

(February 26, 2022)

Following the 2015 Russian intervention in the Syrian civil war, Israel set up a „deconfliction mechanism“ with the big power to prevent them clashing inadvertently during Israeli strikes against Iranian deployments and arms transfers in the neighbouring Arab state.

„Our military officials discuss the practical issues of this substantively on a daily basis. This mechanism has proven to be useful and will continue to work,“ the Russian embassy in Israel said in a statement.

S-400 technology transfer to Turkey is purely commercial matter, Putin says

(3. April 2018)

Commenting on Russia’s decision to expedite S-400 deliveries to Turkey, the Russian leader stressed it had been done „at the request of our Turkish partners and friends.“

„Naturally, we discussed cooperation between Russian and Turkey in the military technical sphere, in particular, the implementation of the contract for supplies of S-400 Triumf missile systems to Turkey. We have decided to expedite deliveries if these highly efficient Russian-made defense systems,“ Putin said.

Would Russia Really Sell to Syria the S-300 Air Defense System? (And Why It Might Not Matter)

(April 23, 2018)

McKenzie noted that the Russian owned and operated S-300V4 and S-400 systems stationed in Syria did not attempt to engage the incoming cruise missiles. “In the attack on Friday night, Russian air defenses were energized,” McKenzie said. “They were scanning, they had a [Beriev A-50] Mainstay air defense aircraft up. They did not choose to engage, so I can‘t speculate about why they did or didn‘t do that.”

Doppelagent Putin

(15. April 2018)

Wag the Russki

(11. April 2017)
