It Is Genocide
Hamas, a terrorist organization, began this war with its brutal attack on October 7, 2023, which killed 1,200 innocent people and took 250 hostages. Israel, as any other country, had a right to defend itself from Hamas.
But, over the last two years, Israel has not simply defended itself against Hamas. Instead, it has waged an all-out war against the entire Palestinian people. Many legal experts have now concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. The International Association of Genocide Scholars concluded that “Israel’s policies and actions in Gaza meet the legal definition of genocide.” The Israeli human rights groups B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights-Israel have reached the same conclusion, as have international groups like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.
Just yesterday, an independent commission of experts appointed by the United Nations echoed this finding. These experts concluded that: “It is clear that there is an intent to destroy the Palestinians in Gaza through acts that meet the criteria set forth in the Genocide Convention.”
I agree.
Communication outage by Israel isolates 800,000 Palestinians in Gaza
Israel has cut off approximately 800,000 Palestinians in Gaza from the outside world after completely shutting down communication services, according to the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor.
This measure coincided with the advance of Israeli army vehicles into the city‘s northwestern neighbourhoods, Al Jazeera Arabic quoted the rights body as saying.

Four Palestinians, including a child, were killed by starvation due to the Israeli-imposed blockade, the Gaza health ministry said on Thursday.
In a statement, it said that the deaths occurred “due to famine and malnutrition” and the total number of deaths due to forced starvation has now risen to 435, including 147 children.
Gaza hit by telecoms blackout as Israeli tanks advance
Israeli tanks were seen in two Gaza City areas that are gateways to the city centre, residents said on Thursday, while internet and phone lines were cut off across the Gaza Strip, a sign that ground operations were likely to escalate imminently.
Uniting for Peace in Gaza: A Test for the General Assembly
On 5 September 2025, a group of 45 United Nations human rights experts, composed of UN Special Rapporteurs, UN independent experts and UN Working Group members, called the UN General Assembly to invoke the Uniting for Peace resolution in order to respond to the escalating famine and genocidal conditions in Gaza. In their joint statement, the experts urged the Assembly to (i) recommend a peace operation, (ii) demand that all crossings into Gaza be opened under UN supervision, (iii) suspend humanitarian mechanisms that had proved dangerous or ineffective, (iv) call upon Mediterranean states to deploy humanitarian naval missions, (v) authorize UN-led humanitarian convoys to supervise all crossings, and (vi) demand a permanent ceasefire alongside the release of detainees and hostages.
Ahead of high-stakes General Assembly week, Guterres urges world leaders to ‘get serious – and deliver’
(September 16, 2025)
Nearly 150 heads of state and government are expected in New York next week, alongside thousands of officials and diplomats.
Mr. Guterres said he would personally hold more than 150 bilateral meetings, pressing leaders “to speak directly with each other, to bridge divides, to reduce risks, to find solutions.”
(…)
“The list is long because the needs are great,” Mr. Guterres said, adding that the current global crises demand not “posturing and promises” but leadership that is committed to making concrete progress.
He concluded with a blunt appeal: “The United Nations is the place. Next week is the time. Leaders must get serious – and deliver.”
Bei UN-Vollversammlung: Luxemburg will Palästina als Staat anerkennen

Deshalb will die luxemburgische Regierung nächste Woche bei der UN-Vollversammlung „denen anzuschließen, die den Staat Palästina anerkennen“.

Was heißt hier Palästina?
Kaum je in der Geschichte ihrer Nationalbewegung waren die Palästinenser der Souveränität so fern wie heute. Wozu dient da eine Anerkennung Palästinas? Und was heißt hier überhaupt Staat?

MSF mourns Hussein Alnajjar, thirteenth colleague killed in Gaza
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is appalled and saddened by the death of our colleague Hussein Alnajjar, who died on 16 September in Gaza, Palestine, from shrapnel injuries caused by an Israeli airstrike near his tent five days earlier. Hussein’s sister-in-law and nephew were also injured in the same incident.
This is not a tragic accident; it is yet again a demonstration that there is no safe refuge anywhere in the Gaza Strip.
Israeli strikes kill 19 Palestinians near Gaza’s last functioning hospitals
Israeli forces have unleashed a new wave of attacks on Gaza, striking areas near some of the few hospitals still functioning, while their ground assault on Gaza City leaves a mounting civilian toll.
At least 83 Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces on Thursday, medical officials told Al Jazeera.
