TotalEnergies announced in its first-quarter earnings report that it would increase returns to shareholders through a higher dividend and stock buybacks after seeing $5.8 billion in profits and $8.6 billion in cash flow during the first three months of 2026.

Libya signs $20bn oil deals with US and French energy companies
Libya’s Tripoli-based government signed a 25-year oil development agreement with France‘s TotalEnergies and the US’s ConocoPhillips that could more than double the output of its Waha Oil company.

In Libya the torture and killing of migrants in detention, their abandonment at sea or in the desert; being held in conditions akin to slavery; being subject to starvation and other serious human rights violations have been documented extensively by the UN’s Independent Fact Finding Mission on Libya and other bodies.
It is clear that European Union migration funding to Libya, as well as migration funding to Libya from EU member states including Italy and France, has not delivered on its promise to improve conditions for people seeking safety.

Gabon soldiers seize power in OPEC member in latest coup
Gabon’s dollar bonds due June 2025 and November 2031 were the worst-performing in emerging markets on Wednesday. The 2025 notes fell 8.55 cents to 84.74 cents on the dollar as of 11:48 a.m. in London. Shares in French mining group Eramet SA, oil and gas producer Maurel & Prom SA and a listed unit of TotalEnergies SE, which all have operations in Gabon, sank in Paris trading.

In its statement, the French ministry of defence also denied the Javelins had been given to Haftar’s forces, and it further reiterated that the arms were not subject to import restrictions because they were intended for the protection of French troops.

Libya‘s oil fields fall into Haftar‘s hands

In the short term, Haftar‘s offensive has actually improved Libya‘s oil production, now running at about 1mn bl/d. Sharara had been closed since December after the militia paid to guard it took control, demanding a massive pay rise. When Haftar‘s forces captured Sharara they allowed the militia to stay, provided it removed key leaders and dropped excessive pay demands. In early March the NOC reopened the field.

Armed protesters had closed down the 300,000 barrel-per-day deposit in December, demanding more money and investment in the remote region.
“Sharara is completely secure and ready to resume pumping,” LNA spokesman Ahmed al-Mismari said Tuesday in a telephone interview. “The guards at the field handed over the field to our forces peacefully.”
Strikes stop production on three North Sea platforms
(24.Juli) The Unite trade union claimed that strike action had shut down Total’s Alwyn, Dunbar and Elgin rigs in the North Sea.
Regional officer John Boland said 44 workers across the three Total rigs had gone on strike in a 6am dispute over pay and working hours.

Farmers launched a four-day blockade at the Grandpuits oil refinery on Sunday, to protest against the import of palm oil for use in fuel at the expense of locally-produced biofuels.
