Second fatal ICE-involved shooting in six days comes as investigation in Pretti and Good‘s deaths continues in Minnesota
Another person was killed during an encounter involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers, in Biddeford, Maine earlier today on July 13, 2026. This shooting comes only six days after ICE agents fatally shot Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston, Texas.
The most recent shooting comes as the Justice Department has turned over a substantial amount of evidence from the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti during Operation Metro Surge, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said Monday, as reported by the Star Tribune.
ICE officer „fearing for public safety“ shot fleeing man, DHS says after hours of silence
An ICE officer fired his weapon “fearing for public safety” as the victim of Monday’s fatal shooting, in a vehicle, “attempted to flee the scene,” the Department of Homeland Security said in its first official statement nearly 12 hours after the incident in Maine.
The department did not share details on why the officer believed the man was a public safety risk.
The man was not the target of the immigration enforcement operation, according to the office of Maine Sen. Angus King, citing a conversation with DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin.

In the 228-197 final vote, a total of four Democrats—Reps. Jared Golden of Maine, Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington, and Thomas R. Suozzi of New York—joined with all but 25 Republicans who voted to pass a 10-day extension. Twenty GOP members voted against it, while five did not vote.
Ahead of the votes—including on separate versions asking for a 5-year and then 18-month extensions of Section 702—opponents of any clean extension, including Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), said anyone opposed to warrantless spying on Americans must vote no.

With that in mind, my calculus is straightforward: I know that if I were to continue my campaign, I would prevail. My record of winning the most challenging district held by any Democrat — of outperforming the top and bottom of the ticket four times — speaks for itself. Regardless of what angry partisan commentators may say, I retain the trust of the coalition of Democrats, independents and Republicans that has repeatedly defied the trends of political polarization by electing me.
I don’t fear losing. What has become apparent to me is that I now dread the prospect of winning. Simply put, what I could accomplish in this increasingly unproductive Congress pales in comparison to what I could do in that time as a husband, a father and a son.

Lewiston police have identified a person of interest as Robert Card, who‘s still at large.
Card allegedly has a history of military service and is a firearms instructor, sources said.
The sources said he also has a mental health history, including a two-week stay this summer at a mental health facility after he allegedly made threats about carrying out a shooting at a National Guard facility.
Authorities have traced his white Subaru to a location in Lisbon, Maine, sources said, as the manhunt continues.
