Police in New York surrounded a Black Lives Matter organizer’s apartment Friday morning for an imminent arrest before a protest group showed up in defense of the organizer, leading to a standoff and causing law enforcement to leave the scene.
Bush’s primary win essentially guarantees her a seat in Congress representing the heavily Democratic St. Louis area. Missouri’s 1st Congressional District has been represented by Clay or his father for a half-century. Bill Clay served 32 years before retiring in 2000. William Lacy Clay, 64, was elected that year.
Clay didn’t face a serious challenger until Bush.
In a stunning upset, Black Lives Matter activist Cori Bush has defeated 10-term incumbent Rep. Lacy Clay in the Democratic primary for Missouri’s 1st Congressional District, according to the Associated Press. Bush, a minister and registered nurse, has been heavily involved in protests against police violence since the 2014 Ferguson protests
The United Nations human rights office has issued a stark warning to authorities in the US against using disproportional force against protesters and journalists involved in anti-systemic racism protests across the country.
The ACLU and other civil rights groups filed a motion adding Police Chief Peter Newsham and other officers to the suit, alleging D.C. officers joined federal law enforcement agents in forcibly clearing the square ahead of President Trump’s photo-op outside of St. John’s Church.
Questions remain over whether Saadallah should have been at large at the time of Saturday evening’s attack in a park in the Berkshire town after being released early from prison this month for minor, non-terrorist offences.
It has also emerged that Saadallah (pictured below), who it is understood had serious mental health problems, had come to the UK as an illegal immigrant in 2012 but was granted asylum in 2018.
The mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema, was criticised for not doing anything to stop such large crowds gathering amid the coronavirus pandemic. The event is thought to be a potential super-spreader, which the Outbreak Management Team’s virologists and epidemiologists find concerning.
President Trump tweeted this Friday morning, a day before his rally in Tulsa:
„Any protesters, anarchists, agitators, looters or lowlifes who are going to Oklahoma please understand, you will not be treated like you have been in New York, Seattle, or Minneapolis. It will be a much different scene!“
The news came soon after an anti-racism “Black Lives Matter” protest in the area earlier. The police say there is no suggestion so far that the incident is linked to any protests.
Nieema Hassan, one of the organizers of Saturday’s protest, said demonstrators had left by the time the violence occurred.
Dozens of Brazilians took to the streets Monday to protest against the death of black teenager Guilherme Silva Guedes, 15, who disappeared in Vila Clara, Sao Paulo Saturday after he was kidnapped.
When five friends decided to attend an anti-racism protest in London on Saturday, all they were hoping to do was to protect their younger allies from far-right thugs.
Forty-eight hours later, their heroism has created a defining image of the Black Lives Matter movement. They have won the praise of politicians, the adulation of social media, and the attention of newspaper front pages.
Amid the violent protests in London yesterday, one image more than any others stood out and showed a ‚glimmer of hope‘, as a black man (Patrick Hutchinson) and others, rescued and protected a white opposing demonstrator who was injured. Patrick Hutchinson didn’t see colour, he just saw another human being in trouble and didn’t want him to die. See the footage and story here.

If All Lives Matter, why is the black community continually asked to justify its anger and grief? If All Lives Matter, why does the court system continue to put the victims of racial discrimination and police brutality on trial, rather than punishing their assailants? If All Lives Matter, why do our fellow Americans continually challenge African-Americans to justify our pain instead of empathizing with it?
Do all lives matter? Of course! And you will be hard pressed to find any African-American who would say otherwise. But we will continue to say Black Lives Matter until African-American lives are given the same value as the lives of people from other countries, our police officers, your property, a lion named Cecil, and a gorilla named Harambe.
Angemeldet waren zunächst 3.000 Personen, laut Polizei seien schließlich rund 50.000 Menschen gekommen.
