Action Against Hunger Mourns the Loss of Two Beloved Colleagues in Gaza

Action Against Hunger is devastated to share the news that two of our colleagues, Mohammed Hussein and Obada Abu Issa, were killed on the afternoon of June 26th during an airstrike. They were not working at the time, nor were they in a zone under displacement orders. Mohammed and Obada had been beloved members of Action Against Hunger’s team in Gaza for the last year.

Obada was 30 years old. He leaves behind his wife and two children. Obada joined the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) team in February 2024 as a Program Field Assistant. His loss creates an irreplaceable gap for the team. A treasured colleague and friend, Obada will be remembered for his humor and professionalism.

Mohammed was 20 years old. He was looking forward to extending his contract for another year, carrying a vision for his future and trying to shape it as best he could. Mohammed’s friends and colleagues cherish him as an example of morality, a boy with a generous heart that embraced everyone, giving those around him sincere support without asking anything in return

Health Workers 4 Palestine: Who We Are

HW4P was co-founded by a group of doctors in October 2023, in the UK, to combat the censorship they experienced, when standing up for the rights of Palestinian health workers and the rights of Palestinians to healthcare. This grassroots movement mobilised within a couple of months to now be established across 70 cities, globally and is the largest health worker founded and Palestine focused advocacy group in the UK.

The thousands of volunteers we now have globally, have truly become the beating heart of our unique voice and movement, advocating for an end to the ongoing genocide and a free Palestine.

UK healthcare and humanitarian workers call for immediate UK government action to end Israel’s genocide and protect the Palestinian people

After more than 600 days of escalating genocidal violence, we are appalled by the UK government’s failure to act to protect the Palestinian people. Furthermore, we are horrified by the UK government’s active and continued military, political and economic support to the Israeli regime. All of this despite the ICJ’s January 2024 ruling that determined Israel is plausibly committing genocide, and the subsequent November 2024 announcement of ICC arrest warrants for leading Israeli politicians accused of war crimes.

Your failure to act decisively in the face of ongoing atrocities renders the UK government legally and morally complicit in each and every act of violence, manufactured deprivation, and targeted destruction that Israel continues to commit against the Palestinian people.

We join the thousands of healthcare and humanitarian workers across the UK who have spoken out against the imposition of the conditions of occupation, apartheid and genocide by the Israeli regime in Palestine.

Our collective activities, bringing together faculty and students of all ranks, identities and groups across institutions in Israel-Palestine and internationally, seek to lay the foundations for solidarity across class and institutional differences in a range of intersecting struggles aimed at changing the face of academia and society.
