At a Moment of Chaos in Trump’s Washington, the Royals Come to Town

Presidents use state visits as an occasion to showcase the best of American culture — and, in this case, perhaps, subtly highlight the resilience of a people who, 250 years ago, rose up and wrested themselves from a king’s control.

The shooting over the weekend at the White House correspondents’ dinner has featured the darker side of the United States at a time when Mr. Trump is supposed to be showcasing America’s 250th birthday for the British royalty. For a moment over the weekend, it was unclear if King Charles would travel to Washington at all, before he reassessed and ultimately committed to his plans for a four-day visit to Washington, New York and Virginia.

King Charles Breaks His Silence After Ex-Prince Andrew’s Arrest

In a statement issued from Buckingham Palace on Thursday, King Charles said: „I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office. What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities.

„In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all,“ he continued.

UK healthcare and humanitarian workers call for immediate UK government action to end Israel’s genocide and protect the Palestinian people

After more than 600 days of escalating genocidal violence, we are appalled by the UK government’s failure to act to protect the Palestinian people. Furthermore, we are horrified by the UK government’s active and continued military, political and economic support to the Israeli regime. All of this despite the ICJ’s January 2024 ruling that determined Israel is plausibly committing genocide, and the subsequent November 2024 announcement of ICC arrest warrants for leading Israeli politicians accused of war crimes.

Your failure to act decisively in the face of ongoing atrocities renders the UK government legally and morally complicit in each and every act of violence, manufactured deprivation, and targeted destruction that Israel continues to commit against the Palestinian people.

We join the thousands of healthcare and humanitarian workers across the UK who have spoken out against the imposition of the conditions of occupation, apartheid and genocide by the Israeli regime in Palestine.

King Charles’ Funeral Plans Unveiled After Monarch Is Given 2 Years to Live With Pancreatic Cancer

Royal watchers have begun to witness his decline, too. Though he will be stepping out on Easter Sunday for a service at Windsor, the king is missing from the royal calendar for the foreseeable future, instead relying heavily on his sister, Princess Anne, to do the work of the royal family. While many would have assumed his heir, Prince William, would be stepping up to the plate, he too is missing from the royal schedule due to Princess Kate Middleton’s own cancer diagnosis and treatment.
