PM Anwar to address Israeli violence, Middle East tensions in meeting with Lebanese PM, Kuwaiti Crown Prince in Riyadh

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to hold a meeting with his Lebanese counterpart Najib Mikati, and Kuwait’s Crown Prince Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, this afternoon.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting will take place before the Extraordinary Summit of the Arab-Islamic States in the capital of Saudi Arabia.

King meets Mikati, says Jordan stands with Lebanon

During a meeting with Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati at Al Husseiniya Palace, His Majesty stressed Jordan’s readiness to support the Lebanese people and mitigate the impact of the ongoing war on them, according to a Royal Court statement.

At the meeting, attended by HRH Crown Prince Hussein, the King said Jordan is working in coordination with Arab and key international actors to put a stop to the Israeli war on Lebanon.

Mikati confers with Turkish Foreign Minister over current situation

Prime Minister Najib Mikati received a call today from Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan during which they discussed the current situation in Lebanon, especially on the humanitarian level and the relief for the families who were forced to be displaced from areas exposed to Israeli aggression.

During the call, Minister Fidan reiterated Turkey‘s readiness to support Lebanon in its humanitarian needs.

For his part, Mikati briefed Araghchi on the latest situation in Lebanon, terming Israel‘s acts of aggression as a real example of war crimes.

While he lamented the inaction of the UN Security Council against the dangerous adventures of the Zionist enemy, the Lebanese prime minister appreciated the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Lebanese government and people amid unrelenting Israeli strikes.

Israel strikes main Lebanon-Syria highway after overnight attacks on Beirut and West Bank

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Beirut on Friday, the most senior international official to visit Lebanon since Nasrallah‘s killing. He arrived at Beirut’s airport, where overnight an Israeli strike landed nearby.

AP images offer a close-up look at the smoldering site of Nasrallah’s assassination

Onlookers at the site Sunday clambered over large slabs of concrete, surrounded by high piles of twisted metal and wreckage. Several craters, likely used by rescuers to penetrate under the site of the explosion were visible, some of them apparently up to 30 meters (100 feet) deep.

A few Hezbollah workers were using a bulldozer to excavate around one of the craters, some of them apparently dug by rescuers to reach the dead. State security and investigators were nowhere to be seen.

France‘s plan includes a government of specialists capable of initiating enough reforms to attract foreign aid.

Mikati, who has been prime minister twice before and unlike many Lebanese leaders does not hail from a political bloc or dynasty, received 72 votes out of a total of 118 members of parliament.
