FBI arrests suspect in connection with intelligence leaks

A member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard was arrested by the FBI on Thursday in connection with the leaking of classified documents that have been posted online, Attorney General Merrick Garland announced Thursday. (…)

The Joint Staff, which comprises the Defense Department’s most senior uniformed leadership that advises the president, began examining its distribution lists immediately after learning of the trove of leaked classified documents – many of which had markings indicating that they had been produced by the Joint Staff’s intelligence arm, known as the J2.

Israel‘s Protests Must Force Netanyahu to Call an Election

For an early election to be called, the nonviolent civic uprising must expand. The Histadrut labor federation must join in, and not just as a ruse in Netanyahu’s service. The demonstrations must become a routine that draws in hundreds of thousands of people every day, not just on weekends. More and more Israelis must engage in civil disobedience in a creative, original way.

Just as in Serbia, where mass demonstrations toppled the dictator Slobodan Milosevic two decades ago, our detached supreme leader must realize that an election is his only escape.

THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION DOES NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT IS WRITTEN IN ITS OWN CHAT CONTROL BILL

(28 March 2023)

Ylva Johansson is the EU Commissioner in charge of the Chat Control Bill. In recent days she has taken part in several interviews in Swedish media and also spoken in front of EU parliament members.

It’s obvious during the interviews that Ylva Johansson does not understand her own bill and what consequences it would have. She constantly repeats misleading and incorrect arguments. Above all, she continues to claim that it’s possible to scan end-to-end encrypted communication without breaking the encryption. It’s remarkable that the responsible EU Commissioner gets away with this, without tremendous criticism from media and members of the EU Parliament (we know, there are some speaking up, but it’s not enough).

Here are some of her statements during the last week and our comments.

Macron Says Europe Should Reduce Dependence On US Dollar, Seek ‚Strategic Autonomy‘

(09.04.2023)

But perhaps most notable was his suggestion that Europe needs to reduce its dependence on the „extraterritoriality of the U.S. dollar,“ a line which both Moscow and Beijing have been emphasizing.

„If the tensions between the two superpowers heat up … we won’t have the time nor the resources to finance our strategic autonomy and we will become vassals,“ he said.

China’s Xi Plans to Speak With Zelensky for First Time Since Ukraine War Broke Out

Mr. Xi is considering visiting other European countries as part of his trip to Russia, though his full itinerary has yet to be confirmed, according to the people.

A direct conversation with Mr. Zelensky, if it happens, would mark a significant step in Beijing’s efforts to play peacemaker in Ukraine, which have so far been met with skepticism in Europe.

Feinstein, Under Pressure to Resign, Asks to Step Down From Judiciary Panel

“So I’ve asked Leader Schumer to ask the Senate to allow another Democratic senator to temporarily serve until I’m able to resume my committee work.”

In a statement, a spokesman for Senator Chuck Schumer, Democrat of New York and the majority leader, said that Mr. Schumer would make that request of the Senate next week.
