How Evolution Became a Dirty Word in Israel

The main question is whether in the Israel of 2018 an effort is being made to blur the Earth’s age or conceal biology’s most significant theory. How can one present the scientific truth to the average Israeli, who is curious and has a wide variety of beliefs? Is there anywhere in Israel where an exhibit claims unapologetically that man descends from apes? Is there any public explanation of Darwin’s theory?

If there is such an exhibition, I don’t know where it is. My searches came up with nothing. But no website or museum that I visited claimed that it was required to conceal, blur or distort the truth; instead, precautions were taken simply to avoid flak.

Remember: the entire Seam Zone and permit regime was created by Israel 15 years ago when it built the Separation Wall INSIDE the West Bank. Now Palestinians have to jump through all sorts of hoops to access their own lands.

The Disappearing Plot of Land: the state issued an entry permit to „the Seam Zone“ to a Palestinian to tend his lands, after insisting for two years that his plot is not there

Since 2003, the Israeli military has imposed a draconian permit regime in the West Bank areas trapped between the separation wall and the Green Line (the armistice line between Israel and the West Bank), an area it refers to as „the Seam Zone“. The permit regime applies to Palestinians only; Israelis and tourists do not require a permit to enter the Seam Zone or stay in it. Palestinians who live in the Seam Zone or wish to enter it in order to tend to their lands, visit relatives or conduct business, are forced to obtain a permit, subject to the regulations of a stifling and highly bureaucratic military mechanism, which dictates a myriad of conditions for the receipt of permits to enter and stay in the Seam Zone.

In March 2016, a Palestinian resident of the village Qaffin submitted a request for an entry permit to the Seam Zone for agricultural purposes, in order to cultivate land owned by his family for generations. The man, who had previously received a number of permits for the very same plot, received no response to his request for several months…

Tens of thousands of Palestinians and Jews protest Nation-State Law

(12.8.2018) “We are not going to rest after this incredible protest,” Barekeh continued. “We are marking the beginning of the way and there is no way back until the law is rescinded. Our struggle will be here, a popular parliamentary and democratic struggle for Arabs as well as Jews.”

“I came to France from Morocco when I was 10 years old,” Eva Illouz told the crowd. “Although I was Jewish and from Morocco, I went to the same schools as the French, and my teachers gave me grades just like the French. I felt that I wasn’t defined by my origin or religion. As a girl I felt deep in my bones the meaning of living in a country where I am treated as an equal.”

Horror on Gaza Beach: New York Times Photographer Witnesses Israeli Killing of 4 Palestinian Boys

(17.7.2014) Israel says it is considering a new ceasefire proposal from Egypt that would take effect on Friday. There is no word yet from Hamas, which rejected the last proposal on the grounds its leaders were never consulted and the terms would have allowed for the continued siege of Gaza and for Israeli bombardment at will. The news of a fresh proposal comes just as a five hour humanitarian pause has ended. The United Nations asked for the break to let Gazans receive supplies and repair damage following 10 days of Israeli bombings. On Wednesday, an Israeli gunboat shelled a beach killing four boys who were playing. The boys were all between the ages of nine and 11 and from the same extended family. Seven other adults and children were wounded in the strike. The scene was witnessed by several international journalists, including our guest Tyler Hicks, a Pulitzer Prize-winning staff photographer at The New York Times. We are also joined from Gaza City by Democracy Now! correspondent Sharif Abdel Kouddous, who has interviewed family members of the young victims

Eyewitness: Gaza beach shelling

(9.6.2006) „Three children were there, two with severe deep cuts in their heads.

One girl was just screaming, crying out for her father: ‚Dad, my dad.‘

It was a terrible scene, with blood everywhere. We could see a gunship in middle of sea, so we knew what had happened.

The medics arrived and started moving the bodies away. I helped them. It was shocking – it‘s the first time I have been around to see this kind of thing.“

Common Enemy: Why Israel Is Embracing Fascism in Europe

(1.8.2018) Indeed, the ‘special relationship’ between Netanyahu and Orban is only the tip of the iceberg. For years, Netanyahu’s Israel has been ‘flirting’ with radical right movements in Europe.

The unmistakable Israeli strategy, of course, has its own logic. Israeli leaders feel that Europe’s move to the far-right is irrevocable and are keen to benefit from the anti-Muslim sentiment that accompanies this shift as much as possible.

Moreover, the EU’s resolve to label illegal settlement products and refusal to heed calls for moving their embassies from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is pushing Netanyahu to explore these new routes.

Rights Groups Demand Israel Stop Arming neo-Nazis in Ukraine

(9.7.2018) They argue that these weapons serve forces that openly espouse a neo-Nazi ideology and cite evidence that the right-wing Azov militia, whose members are part of Ukraine’s armed forces, and are supported by the country’s ministry of internal affairs, is using these weapons.

An earlier appeal to the Defense Ministry was met with no response.

Did Winston Churchill Say ‘The Fascists of the Future Will Call Themselves Anti-Fascists?’

Similar quotes positing the idea that fascism would come to America disguised by a different name can be traced at least as far back as 1936 (although they weren’t attached to Churchill’s name until decades later). On 18 March 1936, for example, the Cincinnati Inquirer reported on words delivered by Norman Thomas, an American Presbyterian minister who was running for president as the Socialist Party of America’s candidate, at an informal luncheon: “Fascism is coming in the United States most probably, but it will not come under that name.”

VIDEO: Rep. Tulsi Gabbard Introduces Legislation to Stop Arming Terrorists

(8.12.2016) Under U.S. law it is illegal for any American to provide money or assistance to al-Qaeda, ISIS or other terrorist groups. If you or I gave money, weapons or support to al-Qaeda or ISIS, we would be thrown in jail. Yet the U.S. government has been violating this law for years, quietly supporting allies and partners of al-Qaeda, ISIL, Jabhat Fateh al Sham and other terrorist groups with money, weapons, and intelligence support, in their fight to overthrow the Syrian government.

The CIA has also been funneling weapons and money through Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar and others who provide direct and indirect support to groups like ISIS and al-Qaeda. This support has allowed al-Qaeda and their fellow terrorist organizations to establish strongholds throughout Syria, including in Aleppo.

Hawaii Democratic Primaries: Gov. David Ige, Ed Case, Tulsi Gabbard Lead Results

In other high-profile contests, former congressman Ed Case appeared to be headed back to Washington to represent Hawaii‘s 1st Congressional District, while Rep. Tulsi Gabbard easily won re-election in the party nomination to represent Hawaii‘s 2nd Congressional District.

Hawaii is heavily Democratic, and like other areas where one party strongly dominates, the primary essentially functions as the general election.

False missile alert plays key role in Hawaii governor race

(9.8.2018) While Ige acknowledged that he was “ultimately responsible” for the mishap, he repeatedly pointed to “human error” and a low-level state employee who sent the alert as the cause for the panic. But Ige ordered his defense department to roll out the nuclear attack plan before it was ready, providing the framework for the error.

The Ige administration has denied an Associated Press request for emails, phone records and calendars related to the missile alert, something Hanabusa also criticized .

Was ist inzwischen passiert?

FULL TEXT: Haaretz Publisher Schocken Calls for Israelis to ‚Join the Struggle‘ at Nation-state Rally

One of the most significant threats to Jewish nationalism, as expressed in the nation-state law, is Arab representation in the Knesset, according to a portion of the Israeli population. So I tell you, the Arab citizen: Do not give the right-wing government a prize – despair and isolation. You all have the political power to reshape public discourse in Israel by participating in elections. Use it.

And to all the citizens of Israel, from every tribe, I call to join the struggle against the elimination of democracy, to develop an Israeli society, pluralistic and prosperous, with the participation of minorities in the economy and in politics.

Committees, mayors of mixed cities, mayors of Arab cities—everyone should be uniting as one.”
