Saudi crown prince says in rare interview ‚every day we get closer‘ to normalization with Israel

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters before the interview was shown that it was best for the leaders of Israel and Saudi Arabia „to speak to how close they think they are, and where they think they are“ in the process.

„Obviously, we encourage normalization. We think it‘s good not just for Israel and Saudi Arabia, we think it‘s good for the whole region,“ Kirby said.

AREVA and EDF sign agreements related to Saudi nuclear program

(31 December 2013)

This coincided with French President François Hollande’s visit to Riyadh.

The two companies have signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with 5 Saudi industrial partners (Zamil Steel, Bahra Cables, Riyadh Cables, Saudi Pumps, Descon Olayan).

These agreements aim to develop the industrial and technical skills of local companies. They reflect AREVA and EDF‘s desire to build an extended network of Saudi suppliers for future nuclear projects in the country.

Von wem bekommt Saudi-Arabien wirklich Atomwaffen-Technologie?

(10.November 2013)

Opposition Leader Lapid: Israel Must Not Agree to Saudi Enrichment

Amid reports that Netanyahu directed top Israeli nuclear experts to partake in negotiations over a U.S.-Saudi deal, Lapid says a stance allowing Saudi enrichment is ‚reckless,‘ and warns it will trigger a ‚Middle East nuclear arms race‘

A U.S.-Saudi Defense Pact Is a Terrible Idea

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken called the prospects of such an accord “a transformative event.” National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan commented this month that while the negotiations weren’t close to being finalized, the sides have settled on a “broad understanding of many of the key elements.” President Biden will no doubt speak about the diplomacy with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly.

Biden Aides and Saudis Explore Defense Treaty Modeled After Asian Pacts

(19.09.2023)

Prince Mohammed is also asking the Biden administration to help his country develop a civilian nuclear program, which some U.S. officials fear could be cover for a nuclear weapons program to counter Iran.

Any treaty with Saudi Arabia that is similar to the American pacts with East Asian allies is sure to draw strong objections in Congress.

September in Brüssel.

Meta targeted for fresh UK gov’t warning against E2E encryption for Messenger, Instagram

Although friction from policymakers has clearly made the “pivot to privacy” which founder Mark Zuckerberg announced all the way back in 2019, when he said the company would universally apply E2EE on its services, slow going.

Finally, though, this August, Meta announced it would enable E2EE by default for Messenger by the end of the year.
