President Trump hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House for a state dinner Thursday, whose guest list is full of tech billionaires and some of the world’s most powerful business leaders.
Dressed in black tuxedoes, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos were among the corporate elite invited to attend the dinner, according to a guest list released by the White House.
This announcement comes as key figures in the tech world, including Tesla‘s Elon Musk, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, are expected in Riyadh for a US-Saudi investment forum. The event is expected to feature a series of multibillion-dollar deals across AI, defence, and other sectors.
A Meta spokesperson said: „The overwhelming majority of Brits already rely on apps that use encryption to keep them safe from hackers, fraudsters and criminals.

„We don‘t think people want us reading their private messages so have spent the last five years developing robust safety measures to prevent, detect and combat abuse while maintaining online security.“
Although friction from policymakers has clearly made the “pivot to privacy” which founder Mark Zuckerberg announced all the way back in 2019, when he said the company would universally apply E2EE on its services, slow going.
Finally, though, this August, Meta announced it would enable E2EE by default for Messenger by the end of the year.
After originally planning to block President Donald Trump from posting to his Facebook and Instagram account for 24 hours, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Thursday the blocks have been extended „indefinitely.“
„We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great,“ Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post Thursday.

Der Internetkonzern steht durch den Skandal um die mutmaßliche Abschöpfung der Daten von mehr als 50 Millionen Facebook-Nutzern durch die britische Datenanalysefirma Cambridge Analytica unter massivem Druck. Die Daten sollen für den Wahlkampf des heutigen US-Präsidenten Donald Trump ausgewertet und genutzt worden sein. Behörden in den USA wie Großbritannien haben Ermittlungen eingeleitet.
Dabei war die Branche in der Vergangenheit durchaus zusammengerĂĽckt, wenn Druck von auĂźen aufkam: Als die US-Bundespolizei FBI etwa Apple zwingen wollte, die verschlĂĽsselten Daten eines iPhones preiszugeben, sprangen Google, Facebook und Microsoft dem Konzern zur Seite. Solcherlei Corps-Geist aber kann oder will sich die Branche in Zeiten zunehmender Probleme offenkundig nicht mehr leisten.
Zuckerberg told Reuters in a phone interview that Facebook already complies with many parts of the law ahead of its implementation in May. He said the company wanted to extend privacy guarantees worldwide in spirit, but would make exceptions, which he declined to describe.
