West African leaders on Thursday ordered the activation of the regional groupâs standby force, following a coup last month in Niger.
The force should be deployed âto restore constitutional order in the republic of Niger,â according to a statement read by Omar Alieu Touray, President of the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
It is unclear if there were any representatives from Burkina Faso, Guinea and Niger, whose military heads of state have sided with Niger, at the summit

Hadash-Taâal MK Aida Touma-Sliman, a former head of the Knessetâs Womenâs Status Committee, told the Knesset: âDo not punish according to hierarchies and classifications.â âShame on these laws,â she continued, tweeting after the law passed, âDonât promote racism on the backs of victims!â
Silman wrote a letter to Baharav-Miara on Wednesday, stating that the project had been initiated „following appeals by Haredi and Arab communities.“
However, it has come to light that an extreme right-wing organization has significantly influenced this project.
