Israelis Rally for Democracy for 24th Week in a Row Amid Judicial Overhaul Talks Blowup

Lapid made an appearance at the Tel Aviv protest on Saturday night. At Kaplan Street, a demonstrator yelled at him, „No negotiations!“ To which he responded, „We‘re not there.“ Although he and Gantz have agreed to delay the negotiations with the coalition, protesters are demanding that they shelve them completely.

Former Justice Minister Tzipi Livni also gave a speech at that rally, saying that the government is „already advancing fascist decisions and legislation that will change the face of Israel forever. Decisions and legislation that erase democracy, bring about religious supremacy over secular people, Jewish supremacy over Arabs and messianic supremacy over judges.“

Former Netanyahu Bureau Chief Reveals How Israeli PM Crossed a Red Line to Win an Election

(10.05.2023)

“ Such a thing has never happened in the history of the country … an external tycoon has taken control of the government. It’s an amazing thing!”

Mozes’ enormous success is what led Netanyahu to fire Yair Lapid and Tzipi Livni and to advance the election. “I brought down the government,” he explained in the investigation, “in the knowledge that Mozes was already in control of the government.”

Ex-Foreign Minister Livni Mulls Joining Forces With Lapid Ahead of Israel‘s March Election

As for Ya’alon, Lapid is convinced that he has very little electoral value and is disappointed in Ya’alon’s level of support. The Yesh Atid chairman has also concluded that the center-right, with which Ya’alon is identified, is too crowded and he plans to move leftward before the election.

New left-wing alliance including Ehud Barak aims to unseat Netanyahu in Israel’s elections

The united slate announced Thursday has the far-left Meretz party running with Barak’s new Israel Democratic Party and Stav Shaffir, who left the Labor Party, under the Democratic Camp moniker. It also hopes to bring Tzipi Livni, a former foreign minister, out of political retirement.

What it means: While Democratic Camp won’t overtake Netanyahu’s Likud and his right-wing camp, it could combine with the center-left Blue and White party to ensure that Benny Gantz, a former military chief of staff, is tapped to form the government.

Polls show Democratic Union Party to net 8-12 seats

Horowitz said the party would be left-wing and proud, and would not join any right-wing government, even one not led by Netanyahu. The top goal of the party in the agreement its leaders signed was reaching a peace agreement.

“The Israeli Left has returned to be large and influential, and the days of kissing up to the Right are over,” he promised.

The collapse of Labor is the most remarkable part of the recent polling, with current leader Avi Gabbay, leading the party into a perpetual freefall that has yet to stop. Former Labor partner Hatnuah is below the electoral threshold too

In Israel, There‘s No Left. There‘s Only a Right in Different Forms

What is going on in our political system ahead of the upcoming election can be described like this: Right A versus Right B, a split in Right C, a possible merger in Right D, and a new glimmer of hope in Right E.

Meretz and the Joint List, the only Israeli left there is, one small and fading and the other ostracized and excluded, and both without any influence, look on from the other side of the fence. And still people say that Israel is “polarized,” that we’re this close to civil war breaking out. It’s hard to think of anything more ridiculous.

Dramatic Split in Israeli Left as Labor Party Breaks Away From Tzipi Livni

A Labor lawmaker, who asked to remain anonymous, said that „time will tell whether dismantling Zionist Union was a smart move. But it shouldn‘t have been done as a public humiliation to Livni.“

A senior source in Livni‘s Hatnuah party said that she „thwarted a split in the Labor Party last week.“

The Left Stops Apologizing

Livni is right. The left has been the victim of incitement for a generation now, which Netanyahu began as opposition leader when he led opposition to the Oslo Accords. And the unbridled incitement against the left didn’t die down following Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin’s assassination. On the contrary, it spread and become fashionable political discourse and the main agenda of the right, especially Netanyahu.
