Greta Thunberg Speaks from Aid Ship Heading to Gaza Despite Israeli Threats: It’s My Moral Obligation

Greta, it’s really something to see you on that ship right now. Can you tell us why you’re taking this journey, extremely dangerous, and how you’re planning to challenge the Israeli blockade?

GRETA THUNBERG: Yeah. Thank you so much for having me.

Yeah, as you said, we are doing this mission following one month after our last attempt. Boat Conscience was bombed and disabled. So, that’s why we are trying again, because we cannot afford to give up. There is simply too much at stake. And in times of injustice, as we are seeing now the genocide and blockade happening, we have to do everything we can to demand an end to these atrocities and war crimes committed by Israel.

And for me personally, I happen to have a platform for some reason, and then it is my moral obligation to use that platform. And if my presence on this boat can make a difference, if that can show in any way that the world has not forgotten about Palestine, and to try once again to attempt to break the siege and open up a humanitarian corridor and deliver the extremely needed humanitarian aid, then that is a risk I am willing to take.

And it’s something that we just simply have to do. We cannot just sit, sit around and do nothing and watch this like live-streamed genocide unfold in front of our very eyes. So we are doing this because we are human beings who care about justice. And when our complicit governments fail to step up, it falls on us, unfortunately, to do so.

JUAN GONZÁLEZ: And, Greta, could you talk about how you see the issue of Palestinian freedom connecting to or intersecting with the issue that you’re best known for, which is climate change activism?

GRETA THUNBERG: Yeah. For me, there is no way of distinguishing the two. We cannot have climate justice without social justice. The reason why I am a climate activist is not because I want to protect trees. I’m a climate activist because I care about human and planetary well-being, and those are extremely interlinked. For example, when we see the genocide in Gaza, of course, there are some very obvious links, that ecocide, environmental destruction is a very common method used in war and to oppress people.

WATCH – CELEBRITIES DEMAND SAFE PASSAGE FOR MADLEEN

Catania, Sicily, Italy | June 1, 2025 – Today at 16:00 GMT+2 the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) launched the Madleen, a civilian ship now sailing toward Gaza carrying humanitarian aid and international human rights defenders in direct defiance of Israel’s illegal and genocidal blockade.

Named after Gaza’s first and only fisherwoman in 2014, Madleen symbolizes the unyielding spirit of Palestinian resilience and the growing global resistance to Israel’s use of collective punishment and deliberate starvation policies. Her launch comes just one month after Israeli drones bombed Conscience, another Freedom Flotilla aid ship, in international waters off the coast of Malta—underscoring both the urgency and the danger of this mission to break the siege on Gaza.

Red Line for Palestine: Protesters Stretch Giant Banner Around Parliament Demanding Arms Embargo

During Prime Minister’s Questions, demonstrators in red gathered outside Parliament to form a striking visual protest against UK arms sales to Israel. A massive red line was stretched around the building, symbolising public demand for an arms embargo and immediate sanctions. Organised by several pro-Palestinian and anti-war groups, the action called attention to Britain’s complicity in the ongoing conflict.

Majority of Brits in favor of full arms embargo on Israel: Poll

The poll revealed that respondents supported a full arms embargo on Israel by over four to one, including 72% of those who voted for the Labour Party in the 2024 General Election.

The survey, conducted by Opinium, on behalf of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), showed a clear majority are also in favor of sanctions against Israeli government ministers and for Israel to be expelled from the UN, with only 16% of respondents opposed to Israel’s expulsion.

Israeli arms exports reach record high, as sales to Arab states rise sharply

Sales to Arab countries which signed normalisation deals with Israel, dubbed the Abraham Accords, rose from 3 percent in 2023 to 12 percent last year. The UAE, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan normalised relations with Israel in 2020.

Elsewhere, Europe made up 54 percent of exports, Asia and the Pacific region was 23 percent, North America imported 9 percent, Latin America was at 1 percent, while Africa made up 1 percent.

How Research Reactors Help Make Medical Imaging Possible

(August 10, 2020)

From reactor to patients

Research reactors are reactors that, instead of generating electricity, are primarily used to produce neutrons for other applications. These neutrons can be used for various purposes, such as to produce 99Mo by irradiating uranium-235 targets.

Being a radioisotope, 99Mo is an unstable atom that undergoes decay. It takes 66 hours for half of any 99Mo produced to decay — this is known as its half-life. The decay product of 99Mo, also called its ‘daughter product’, is 99mTc.

To get 99mTc, the irradiated uranium-235 targets are moved to a processing installation, usually near a research reactor, to separate 99Mo from the other fission products and purify it. The purified 99Mo is then transported to a production facility for 99Mo/99mTc generators — devices used to safely hold, transport and chemically extract 99mTc from 99Mo directly on site at a hospital or other medical facility.

What Is Molybdenum-99 (Mo-99)?

Our fusion-based medical isotope production system produces high-specific-activity molybdenum-99 using a proprietary fusion-fission process, without the need for a conventional reactor and the use of inefficient highly enriched uranium. We believe that our production of Mo-99 in the United States will mitigate, if not prevent chronic shortages by producing the isotope in an efficient, clean, low-cost manner compatible with the existing radioisotope supply chain.

What is molybdenum-99 used for?

Molybdenum-99 is the parent isotope of technetium-99m, a gamma-emitting isotope used as a radioactive tracer in medical imaging procedures such as SPECT scans. Tech-99m is used in tens of millions of medical diagnostic procedures around the world every year. It is a critical medical tool for diagnosing heart disease, bone disease, and cancer.

Tech-99m has a very short half-life; of any given supply, nearly all of it will decay in under a day. Its short half-life makes it extremely useful as a tracer, but also makes it impossible to stockpile

Leader: Iran’s nuclear enrichment is none of America’s business

The United States has been claiming that Iran can import nuclear fuel for its reactors. However, the Leader said the United States is not trustworthy, saying the U.S. refused to sell 20-percent enriched uranium to Iran to power its medical reactor in the 2000s.

“In the 2000s, we experienced firsthand how unreliable the U.S. was when it came to supplying 20% enriched fuel,” Ayatollah Khamenei pointed out, indirectly referring to Iran‘s need to nuclear fuel to power its Tehran medical reactor.

He said, “The core demand of the U.S. is that Iran should not have a nuclear industry and should remain dependent on them. Our response to America’s nonsense is clear: they can’t do a damn thing about it.”

Iran‘s Khamenei dismisses US nuclear proposal, vows to keep enriching uranium

„The proposal that the Americans have presented is 100% against our interests … The rude and arrogant leaders of America repeatedly demand that we should not have a nuclear programme. Who are you to decide whether Iran should have enrichment?,“ he added.
Tehran says it wants to master nuclear technology for peaceful purposes and has long denied accusations by Western powers that it is seeking to develop nuclear weapons.

Antrittsbesuch in Washington: Was erwartet Merz bei Trump?

„Wichtig ist immer, dass man nicht zu lange redet, sondern, dass man kurz redet und ihn auch reden lässt“, sagte Merz im WDR. „Man muss sich auf ihn einstellen und auf ihn einlassen – und gleichzeitig darf man sich nicht kleiner machen, als wir sind. Das ist ohnehin meine wichtigste Voraussetzung, dass wir mit ihm vernünftig reden können: Wir sind da keine Bittsteller.“
