Kurdish civilians flee as Syrian conflict escalates in Aleppo, Tall Rifat

An official of the Autonomous Administration has informed the Agence-France Presse (AFP) that following the Turkish-backed armed groups’ takeover of Tall Rifat and the villages of the Shahba area, the Kurdish residents of those areas were forced to flee from their homes.

As the official disclosed, a group of displaced Kurds have arrived at the areas controlled by SDF.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) also declared that they will “attempt to move the displaced Kurds from Aleppo and its surroundings to areas under SDF’s control.”

“Following the collapse and withdrawal of the Syrian army and its allies, we intervened to establish a humanitarian corridor between our eastern regions, Aleppo, and the Tal Rifaat area, with the aim of protecting our people from potential massacres.

“However, the attacks of the armed groups backed by the Turkish occupation have disrupted this corridor.”

Abdi said despite the offensive, “our forces continue to resist to protect our people residing in the Kurdish neighborhoods of Aleppo.”

Why the French government is headed for collapse

The vote would be a response to the prime minister’s decision to use Article 49.3 of the constitution – sometimes known in France as the “nuclear option” – to push his government’s sweeping social security budget bill through parliament without a vote.

The article has been used in the past, most recently in 2023 to push through Macron’s deeply unpopular reforms raising the retirement age. But using it can trigger a no-confidence vote in parliament, where a simple majority is enough to topple a government.

I was suspended from Israel’s Knesset for highlighting the tyranny of Netanyahu. Help us to oppose him

(November 29, 2024)

I am not alone in opposing his tyranny. The consistent political opposition inside Israel itself, made up of democratic Jews and Arab citizens, finds the notion of democracy in Israel under Netanyahu absurd too. Democracy in Israel never really existed, owing to the state of Israel’s definition as an ethnic concept, antithetical to political egalitarianism.

A state that under its basic laws declares one group politically superior to the other cannot be regarded as a democracy, but as an ethnocracy. Since its formation, Israel has been pursuing discriminatory policies towards its own Palestinian citizens in all spheres of life – housing, employment, welfare and education. Even the supposed Israeli bill of rights, the Basic Law: Human Dignity and Liberty, doesn’t dare to mention the right to equality.

‘Netanyahu Will Build Settlements Above Hostages’ Heads’: Israelis Protests

Thousands of protesters gathered Saturday evening, November 30, for a hostage release deal and cease-fire in Gaza across Israel, after Hamas released a video of American-Israeli hostage Edan Alexander in captivity. His mother, Yael, spoke at the main rally in Tel Aviv.

Einav Zangauker, mother of hostage Matan Zangauker, says that it is “impossible to hold back the tears” after watching the video released by Hamas which Alexander “begs to return home,” and attacked the far-right government.

“A government that does not put a new initiative on the table for a deal and an end to the war to bring back Edan and the other hostages is a government that betrays the hostages and their families, and sacrifices them to their deaths in captivity,” Zangauker says at the massive demonstration held in front of the Israeli army headquarters at Begin Road in Tel-Aviv. “This week, the prime minister signed a deal for an end to the war in Lebanon. How can it be that Netanyahu signs a deal for the north but prevents a deal for the end of the war in the South?”

Democrats left fuming over Biden’s decision to pardon his son — after he repeatedly said he wouldn’t

President Joe Biden’s decision to pardon his son has left some Democrats fuming over his choice to repeatedly and unequivocally claim that he would never take that step, even though a pardon long appeared possible to Hunter Biden’s legal team.

Multiple officials who recently worked for Joe Biden said they never believed the president or White House aides speaking on his behalf when they insisted in recent months that a pardon for Hunter Biden was off the table.
