MILITARY INTELLIGENCE DIRECTOR YADLIN COMMENTS ON GAZA, SYRIA AND LEBANON

Date:
2007 June 13, 16:38
(…)

Yadlin said the IDI has been predicting armed confrontation in Gaza between Hamas and Fatah since Hamas won the January 2006 legislative council elections. Yadlin felt that the Hamas military wing had initiated the current escalation with the tacit consent of external Hamas leader Khalid Mishal, adding that he did not believe there had been a premeditated political-level decision by Hamas to wipe out Fatah in Gaza. Yadlin dismissed Fatah‘s capabilities in Gaza, saying Hamas could have taken over there any time it wanted for the past year, but he agreed that Fatah remained strong in the West Bank. Although not necessarily reflecting a GOI consensus view, Yadlin said Israel would be „happy“ if Hamas took over Gaza
because the IDF could then deal with Gaza as a hostile state. He dismissed the significance of an Iranian role in a Hamas-controlled Gaza „as long as they don‘t have a port.“

Yadlin: Israel would be ‘happy’ if Hamas takes over Gaza

(December 21, 2010)

In the cable, Yadlin is quoted as contradicting the consensus in the Israeli government by stating that “Israel would be happy if Hamas took over Gaza because the IDF could then deal with Gaza as a hostile state.”

He also dismissed the significance of an Iranian role in a Hamas-controlled Gaza “as long as they don’t have a port.” He is quoted as saying that it would be something Israel could deal with.

The Iran Plans

(April 9, 2006)

American and European intelligence agencies, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (I.A.E.A.), agree that Iran is intent on developing the capability to produce nuclear weapons. (…)

One of the military’s initial option plans, as presented to the White House by the Pentagon this winter, calls for the use of a bunker-buster tactical nuclear weapon, such as the B61-11, against underground nuclear sites. (…)

The lack of reliable intelligence leaves military planners, given the goal of totally destroying the sites, little choice but to consider the use of tactical nuclear weapons. “Every other option, in the view of the nuclear weaponeers, would leave a gap,” the former senior intelligence official said. “ ‘Decisive’ is the key word of the Air Force’s planning. It’s a tough decision. But we made it in Japan.”

He went on, “Nuclear planners go through extensive training and learn the technical details of damage and fallout—we’re talking about mushroom clouds, radiation, mass casualties, and contamination over years. This is not an underground nuclear test, where all you see is the earth raised a little bit. These politicians don’t have a clue, and whenever anybody tries to get it out”—remove the nuclear option—“they’re shouted down.”

Israel fordert atomaren Angriff auf den Iran

(22. Juli 2006)

Dokumentation in zeitlicher Reihenfolge:

“Washington Times”, 31.01.2003,

(…)

New Yorker, 08.04.2006 (Anm.: 17.
“Was wollt Ihr denn?

Not Just Netanyahu: Why Do Billionaires and Politicians Make Such Good Friends?

It seems that there is no better, no more characteristic demonstration of the huge gap between the aggressively marketed image and what really occupied Netanyahu in his years at the helm. He is obviously not the only politician who likes the proximity of tycoons. Ariel Sharon, Ehud Barak, Shimon Peres and Ehud Olmert also liked being close to rich people and the pampering they could provide.

Netanyahu testifies in Olmert defamation case

Netanyahu rejected Olmert’s allegations that his family had a history of mental illnesses, according to The Jerusalem Post.

„I have no psychiatric history,“ he told Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court Deputy President Amit Yarivin.

The defamation trial of Netanyahu and his family against Olmert started earlier in January with the Opposition Leader demanding Olmert pay nearly $261,000 of alleged damages for statements against Benjamin Netanyahu, his wife Sara and their son Yair’s mental health in two April 2021 interviews.

Olmert asks court to order psychiatric evaluations for Netanyahu, wife and son

(23.01.2021)

Olmert’s lawyer Amir Titonovich told the Haaretz newspaper that they believe that the Netanyahu family has records showing that they are not mentally sound.

The request needs to be approved by the court, but it is thought unlikely that it will do so.

Earlier this month, Olmert rejected out of hand the idea that he could apologize to the Netanyahus, arguing that he was expressing a widely held opinion.

Olmert: I Called the Netanyahus Mentally Ill After Consulting With Experts

(Jan. 10, 2022)

At the start of the hearing, Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court Judge Amit Yariv asked Olmert what he based his claim on when he said “what can’t be fixed is the mental illness of the prime minister and his wife and son. That’s not fixable.”

Olmert responded that “I followed their actions, I listened to recordings of the family members, I consulted with experts and with people close to them who know them well. They described to me behavior that … is known as abnormal behavior, crazy behavior.”
