(July 30, 2026)

Riyadh has also asked the US and a group of European countries including Germany, France, the UK and Italy to join a Red Sea coalition.

The EU already has a naval protection mission, Aspides, operating in the Red Sea and it remains unclear if the Houthis are mounting a general blockade or one directed solely at Saudi Arabia.

Hamas’ agreement to Trump’s disarmament plan ‘calls Israel’s bluff’

The announcement that Hamas has agreed to a roadmap for its disarmament can now shift that dynamic, yet it is unlikely things will change on the ground anytime soon.

“The last thing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants going into October’s elections is US pressure to withdraw from Gaza, and it’s likely he will foot-drag any further negotiations as much as possible,” Norman said.

Hamas ‘made concessions for the sake of our Palestinian people’, official says

Hamas agrees to disarm depending on Israeli steps, senior Hamas official tells CNN

“The agreement is a package,” Hamad said. “We will not begin any weapons-related steps until Israel implements these commitments. Frankly, if Israel does not implement them, we will not proceed.”

Hamad said Israel must first cease fire, stop all targeted killings in Gaza, withdraw its troops to the Yellow Line and allow for a surge of humanitarian aid consistent with the October ceasefire agreement. The National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), a Palestinian technocratic committee appointed by the Board of Peace, must also enter Gaza and take over governance of the strip.

The NCAG will assume control of weapons belonging to Hamas’s police force in Gaza, Hamad said.

The Board of Peace and the mediating countries of Egypt, Qatar, TĂŒrkiye, and the United States today are pleased to announce that Hamas has agreed to a detailed Roadmap for implementing the next phases of the Gaza ceasefire.

The agreement concludes months of intensive, good faith negotiations to advance President Donald J. Trump‘s vision for establishing new governance, security, humanitarian relief, reconstruction, and economic recovery in Gaza as set out in the Comprehensive Peace Plan and U.N. Security Council Resolution 2803.

The Roadmap represents a historic breakthrough. For the first time, Hamas officially has committed to an actionable plan for relinquishing all its weapons, which will be followed by Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.

100 soldiers stage mass walk-out at southern IDF base after row with their commander

(July 30, 2026)

Footage posted online showed the soldiers marching out of the base while chanting an obscenity against officers. Other footage from the base showed a disorganized mount of guns left behind by the soldiers, and the wreckage of the removed signs, including one with a hellish motif that read “Kingdom of Devils.”

The soldiers claimed the signs were “part of our company’s tradition.” According to the army, the signs contained materials meant to disparage rookie soldiers.

Infantry soldiers in the IDF have a history of hazing new recruits and of deserting en masse over alleged mistreatment by commanders.

Soldier seriously wounded during hazing ritual, 4 comrades indicted

(May 3, 2026)

In February, a female sergeant in the IDF Artillery Corps was indicted for abusing two corporals in her unit as part of a so-called hazing ritual. She was accused of abusing the two soldiers as a form of “punishment” for minor infractions, summoning them at night, whipping them with her dog tag, striking them with her rifle, and forcing them to sing, despite their pleas for the actions to stop.

Similarly, last summer, seven soldiers serving in the Israeli Air Force’s Arrow air defense system array were detained for the alleged abuse of junior soldiers. According to a Ynet report, the veteran soldiers were suspected of abuse, violence, threats and sex crimes.
