The report of a Ukrainian Su-27P fighter getting shot down could portend a different phase of aerial combat – one in which the Russians are getting better at dogfighting and are able to venture into Ukrainian air space at will to finally achieve the air dominance they have thus far been unable to establish. The Donbas phase of the war may mean more fighter jets from both sides taking to the skies as ground combat reaches a critical stage. Thus, aerial combat is becoming more decisive.
Russian long-range missiles destroy western Ukraine arms depot
Konashenkov said shells for M777 howitzers, a type supplied by the United States, were being stored there. He said four howitzers were destroyed elsewhere in fighting and that Russian airstrikes also destroyed Ukrainian “aviation equipment” at a military aerodrome in the southern Mykolaiv region.
There was no immediate comment on the Zolochiv strike from the Ukrainians.

Alexander Drueke, 39, and Andy Huynh, 27, had been serving as volunteers with a regular Ukrainian army unit. They are believed to be the first US servicemen to end up as Russian prisoners of war.
