It was a devastating scene repeated in other parts of Lebanon, including the south, were a distraught mother on Friday reportedly buried five sons killed by Israeli bombing, and in the Ghobeiry neighborhood of central Beirut earlier this week, when an Israeli airstrike destroyed the home of the Hamdan family, reportedly killing father Ahmad Hamdan, his three daughters, and two grandchildren. As of Tuesday, Hamdan’s wife was missing beneath the rubble of their bombed-out home.

Lebanese father buries four daughters killed in Israeli strike
A Lebanese father mourned the death of his four daughters, mother, father, brother-in-law and nephew, after they were killed in an Israeli attack. Israel has killed at least 770 people in Lebanon since last Monday.
Lebanon says Israeli strike in south kills 12 medics
In the nearby village of Irkey, Mohammad Taqi buried his four daughters, aged six to 13, who were killed in an Israeli strike on Thursday along with five relatives.
„The Israeli enemy says every day that it is targeting infrastructure,“ he told AFP at the funeral, his head wrapped in a white bandage and his face covered in wounds.
„Is this the infrastructure? Have you seen it?“ he asked, gesturing to his daughters‘ bodies.
„I‘ve lost four daughters. I don‘t have any others. Zainab, Zahra, Malika and Yasmina,“ he said, adding that he had also lost his parents, brother, nephew and brother-in-law in the same strike.

In a 1984 memo entitled “War Powers Problem,” Roberts — then an associate in Ronald Reagan’s White House counsel’s office — advised the Reagan administration to oppose legislation extending tax benefits to veterans who served in Reagan’s unauthorized military deployment to Lebanon. Roberts argued that the administration should oppose the bill simply because it mentioned Congress’s constitutional power to declare war.

Justice Brett Kavanaugh has seemingly come down on both sides of the issue regarding limiting presidential war power. In a 2015 Appeals Court ruling, the conservative judge wrote that “in justiciable cases, courts should not hesitate to enforce constitutional and statutory constraints on wartime activities.”

Additionally, Justice Clarence Thomas has also questioned whether Congress has the power to rein in presidential power related to national security. In a dissenting opinion for a 2004 Supreme Court case, Thomas wrote that the Constitution gives the president “primary responsibility” over national security and foreign policy.

When Cuban-American billionaire Jorge Mas Santos (henceforth, Mas) visited the White House last week, the meeting was less focused on Inter Miami’s MLS Cup victory and more on the evergreen influence of Miami’s business elite over Washington’s Cuba policy.
Mas, the chairman of a powerful family business empire and longtime political player in South Florida, has spent decades advocating for tightening U.S. sanctions on Cuba until the island’s political system changes. He inherited the position from his father, Jorge Mas Canosa, who formed the Cuban American National Foundation (CANF) with the help of the Reagan administration as part of Washington’s effort to counter leftist governments in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Democratic senators file war powers resolution to check Trump on Cuba
The resolution filed Thursday by Democratic Sens. Tim Kaine, Ruben Gallego and Adam Schiff would require the president to remove the military from any hostilities with Cuba and could potentially receive a vote by the end of the month.
„Only Congress has the power to declare war under the Constitution, but he operates with the belief that the U.S. military is a palace guard, ordering military action in the Caribbean, Venezuela, and Iran without Congress‘ authorization or any explanation for his actions to the American people,“ Kaine said in a statement.
Bombed, but standing
President Masoud Pezeshkian walked Tehran’s sidewalks unfettered, shook hands with people, took selfies with them, and promised to resist. Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Eje’i chanted even more loudly as the enemy bombed a site in close proximity to him. Iran’s culture minister and Tehran’s mayor, two politicians from opposite sides of the political spectrum, walked together and raised their fists as smoke billowed behind them. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told foreign reporters that the U.S. would eventually have to accept the determination and resolve of the Iranian people, and Security Chief Ali Larijani said the enemy has yet to truly get to know the Iranian nation. The large presence of Iranian officials came after the American war secretary claimed they had gone underground and were in hiding.
Five US Air Force refueling planes hit in Iranian strike on Saudi Arabia, WSJ reports
The planes, which were hit during an Iranian missile strike on the Saudi base in recent days, were damaged but not fully destroyed and are being repaired, the Journal said, adding that no one was killed in the strikes.
