The call represents a shift in Trump’s relations with the Palestinian Authority. During his first term, the group severed ties with the U.S. due to Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital. Until now, Trump had not since spoken with Abbas.

GAZA, Tuesday, April 16, 2024 (WAFA) – The Palestinian death toll from Israel‘s deadly offensive against the Gaza Strip since October 7th, 2023, has now soared to 33,843, medical sources confirmed on Wednesday.
Sources added that at least 76,575 others have also been injured in the onslaught.
The toll includes at least 68 deaths over the past 24 hours, a ministry statement said, adding that 76,465 people have been wounded in the Gaza Strip since the war began when Hamas militants attacked Israel on October 7.
