I look forward to working closely with our #ROK friends and allies to ensure progress on inter-Korean relations is in lockstep with progress on denuclearization. @StateDept
Kim said he and Moon agreed to remove all nuclear weapons and threats from the Korean Peninsula.
„The September declaration will open a higher level for the improvement in relations (between the South and the North) … and bring closer the era of peace and prosperity,“ Kim said of his agreement signed with Moon after their two-day talks in Pyongyang.
The joint declaration, later released by Seoul’s presidential office Cheong Wa Dae, showed the North’s agreement on denuclearization steps.
2018 Inter-Korean Summit Schedule (평양 남북정상회담 일정표)
Continuing our pre-summit special coverage… We are D-minus-four until the highly-anticipated ‚2018 Inter-Korean Summit Pyeongyang‘ between South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Our Blue House correspondent Hwang Hojun takes a look at the agenda of the summit and what we can expect out of the historic meeting.
Hojun, so we hear that the envoys met with the North Korean leader?
That’s right, Daniel. Their encounter was confirmed when the Blue House press corps received a text message from Cheong Wa Dae spokesperson Kim Eui-kyeom less than two hours ago, in which he said South Korea’s special delegation did, in fact, meet with Kim Jong-un to deliver President Moon Jae-in’s personal letter,… and that they exchanged opinions. The Blue House also confirmed that the special envoys will leave Pyongyang after they attend a dinner; but it’s still unclear who the host is.
„We agreed to hold an inter-Korean summit within September in Pyongyang“ the two Koreas said in a joint press statement issued after the meeting.
North Korea’s chief delegate, Ri Son-gwon, hinted after the meeting that the two sides agreed on a date but decided not to announce it, only to emphasize that the summit will take place „within September.“
The ceremonies were often accompanied in Pyongyang by rallies, anti-US media coverage and other reminders of the war. This year, however, explicit anti-US messages disappeared from the media as well as the streets of the city on Monday. Pyongyang has also replaced images of missile launches and military formations on a prominent site outside the city train station with visuals of industry and agriculture.
South and North Korea agreed to march together and form a unified team for certain sports at the upcoming Asian Games as well as to hold a basketball match in Pyongyang next month, the ministry of culture, sports and tourism said Monday.
The working groups of both sides have touched on establishing official relations. A U.S. embassy in Pyongyang was an option that was brought up.
According to South Korean daily Joongang Ilbo, citing a source in Singapore, Mr Kim has invited Mr Trump to North Korea to hold a second summit in July.
The invitation was in a letter written by Mr Kim to Mr Trump and hand delivered by Mr Kim’s right-hand man, General Kim Yong Chol, to the White House on June 1.

The 120-member group led by Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Do Jong-whan will depart Seoul’s Gimpo International Airport at 10:30 a.m. aboard a chartered civilian flight. They will travel via a direct air route between Seoul and Pyongyang over the Yellow Sea.
The sources – who did not wish to be named due to the sensitivity of the information – could not immediately confirm how long Kim would be in China or who he would meet while there, Bloomberg and Reuters both said. The Post could not independently verify the claims.(…)
If the mystery guest turned out to be Kim himself, it would also be his first foreign visit since becoming North Korea’s supreme leader in 2011.
