In the face of Israel‘s genocide in Gaza, ongoing silence and inaction is complicity

For nearly two years, we have witnessed a live-streamed genocide. War crimes have been well-documented by journalists, rights groups, doctors and civilians. There’s enough evidence to sift through for decades to come.

Activists and celebrities have reminded the western world of their vow to “never again” allow something like this to happen. Countless social media campaigns have pleaded with the public to keep “all eyes on Rafah” and on Gaza.

But still the genocide persists. Israel’s actions in Gaza and the occupied West Bank have become more brazen and violent than ever.

Why is this happening? It’s not because Israel is a small beacon of democracy in the Middle East surrounded by enemies. Rather, it’s because Israel is a rogue state surrounded by capitulators who have allowed this to unfold.

Any government in the world could expel the rogue state of Israel from the United Nations. None does.

‘They’ll kill us all’: Gazans plead for intervention as Israeli attacks intensify

(April 7, 2025)

“We are civilians in our homes,” Al-Aqqad pleaded. “We don’t want to be displaced to unsafe areas. The army targets everyone without exception. We want the world to act and save us, otherwise they’ll kill us all.”

Gaza is a mirror reflecting the world‘s absolute shame: Opinion

Never in recent history has a civilian population been locked into a fenced strip of land – denied food, water, and fuel – while being bombed from air, land, and sea.

This is not siege. It is the world’s first televised extermination.

A concentration camp under constant aerial assault.

(…)

What is happening in Gaza does more than violate law – it obliterates it.

It tears through every principle of humanity, every treaty that claims to uphold it.

The world did not merely fail Gaza. It abandoned her. And in doing so, it exposed itself.

Gaza is not just a killing field.

She is a mirror – and in her reflection, we see our absolute, unvarnished shame.

May 2024 Monthly Forecast – In Hindsight: Applying to be a Member of the UN: The Palestinian Case

This appeared the most likely scenario on 24 April, when the chairs of the Arab Group, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement wrote to the president of the General Assembly, citing the US veto and requesting the resumption of the Tenth Emergency Special Session (ESS). However, it seems that the ESS could not meet within the ten-day period after the veto and expects to do so on 10 May. In light of this, the president of the General Assembly wrote to all member states on 26 April informing them that he would convene a General Assembly meeting under the agenda item “use of the veto”, as well as an ESS.

The Arab Group is expected to present a draft resolution at the ESS. In accordance with rule 137 of the General Assembly’s rules of procedure, the resolution could request the Council to reconsider the application of the State of Palestine. This was done in the case of Viet Nam on 26 November 1976, …

UN General Assembly to resume emergency special session on Mideast

(May 2, 2024)

Under UN rules, the admission of new members has to be recommended by the Security Council before a vote in the General Assembly. If the Security Council does not recommend the application or postpones its consideration of the application, the council then must submit a special report to the General Assembly, which in turn could ask the council to reconsider.

Gaza war: Why did Arab states not join South Africa‘s case against Israel in the ICJ?

All Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia and Egypt, have issued many statements condemning Israel‘s assault on Gaza, but they did not take any further action. Saudi Arabia and the Arab League waited for more than a month of onslaught in Gaza to hold a summit in Riyadh to discuss the issue.

The summit decided to break the siege and blockade, but Arab countries never turned this resolution into action. Instead, Egypt obeyed Israeli commands and refused to give access to move injured civilians for treatment outside of Gaza unless Israel approved their names.

Carnage in Gaza: ‘How much is enough?’ asks UN Assembly President

(19.01.2024)

Addressing the 19th Non-Aligned Summit in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, President Dennis Francis urged the bloc of 120 nations to exert its influence to bring an end to the “carnage” in the war-ravaged enclave.

“That situation behooves us to ask: how much is enough? And does the very concept of enough even exist in this setting?” he said. “I renew the demand for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and for the release of all hostages. This stands as the only credible course of action to authentically address – let alone resolve – this conflict.”
